Ian I just completed watching your video and just want to thank you for the education. I have an Electric Mobility Rascal 245 scooter that is 25 to 30 years old. It was last used by a relative about 15 years ago. But when she passed, I put the scooter in my basement. The basement is dry and not exposed to swings in temperature. I now have another family member in need of the scooter but it will not take a charge. I’ve just ordered replacement batteries and hope that will be the fix to get it running. Your video has helped me understand how the scooter works. I’m not very mechanical and unable to tear down the scooter transaxle (lack of tools and experience), but your video has given me more knowledge to recognize possible problems and if the scooter is worth repair. I plan to watch the video again if the scooter runs after the new batteries are installed. Thanks again.

Hy Ian just watched this Amazing Video and Subscribed Immediately, I have an Pride Apex Rapid I have just installed new 22 anp hour batteries, and the scooter is a bit slow and has been for a while and making a noise around motor area, I thought this was tyre noise as they are well worn, these new batteries are the 3rd set it's had since new, I have always got very good distances in the past and I weigh over 17 stone - 246 pounds, I took the 3rd trip out getting longer each time to condition the batteries, I did just over an hour and had 3 green lights out, this had never happened before, with the other batteries I've had, even when they was over a year old, as the scooter is a breakdown boot scooter I kept the top off the lift out battery box to volt test them through the charging processes, and everything was as it should be when I got back from my 3rd trip I took the motor and wheels assembly off turned it over, and the transaxle and motor where very very hot the brake wasn't as hot, did not know if this was normal as I had never checked it before, so I got on KZbin, and found you Ian and thank the stars the video was about transaxles motors and brakes, after Watching this I went out to check mine it had all cooled down, and I started checking did all the volt meter testing you did and everything was fine, the bearing on left side of Transaxle had lots of play no signs of grease the long axle on on right had more in and out play than you showed in your video, I could see the small difference in the transaxle motor to my own, you mentioned in your Excellent well informed video that parts are hard to find, so I thought I'll just have a look on the net, I found a site that sells Pride mobility parts, I don't want to name the site as KZbin may remove my comment, a fully complete transaxle motor and brake for an Apex Rapid is £245 without vat that I am exempt from, also saw a brake for go go elite traveler for £82 for same scooter motor&brake £170 all these prices do not include vat, the cheapest new Apex Rapid I have found so far is over £800 without vat, my scooter is very old but looks good, I also checked everything else on the scooter and no play in anything, since I've had it all it's needed is batteries and ignition barrel that cost £12, at the moment it needs new wheels-tyes if I had known I had this axle problem I might not of purchased new batteries that cost £80, and maybe opted for a new Apex Rapid one, what's your advice Ian please, new Transaxle motor & brake and tyres or brand new Pride Apex Rapid, I will name the parts site in my next comment many many thanks for bringing this video to us kind regards Bryan from Doncaster Yorkshire England
@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
Hi Bryan glad you found the video helpful and thank you for the kind words and subscribing to our channel. With your problem it does sound like transaxle. I'm pretty sure the LX shares the same transaxle as the Apex Rapid and I have done my fair share of replacing them in the past. (even under warranty). As far as I'm aware I think Pride have changed manufacturer of the transaxle from the original ones they put in these units and only time will tell if they hold up. I always tell my customers if they need a new motor transaxle brake assembly due to Pride only selling the transaxle with the motor and brake together that you might as well buy another scooter and trade it in if possible. My only problem with third party online parts suppliers, are they selling off prides first generation transaxles? Another concern I have with online third-party parts suppliers is the warranty on the parts. Here in the US monsterscooterparts.com have a limited 30 day warranty and I do not see anything on the UK website regarding warranty (I Might be wrong) and you have to install it yourself. Buying new? My choice for a transportable scooter would be: If you can handle the weight then the Zero Turn 8 or Revo 2.0 but that thing is way too big for a boot, you'll need a lift or SUV. Best of luck buddy. 👍

Very informative video. Have you ever worked on an e-Wheels EW 11 drive train? Is Permatex a solution for bad gaskets in the gearbox?
@lasvegasscooterslifts3 ай бұрын
I've worked on a couple of E-Wheels scooters EW36 and a big four wheel. The three wheel is in my store (dead) due to a broken frame welds to the rear axle and that had a leaky axle. The four-wheel had an electrical problem. We used to be dealers of E-Wheels but could never get in contact with them or parts or orders, so we had to fire them. We can't get customer service from them then we can't offer customer service for our customers. As for gaskets I'm pretty sure they wouldn't sell just the gasket but sell the complete transaxle. If I had to rate the company, it would be... 1 out of 10 for products 1 out of 10 product support -10 out 10 for customer service.

Do you have a video for the Pride Revo 2.0 that shows how to replace the front shroud?
@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
Hey bud, no I don't and it's a pain to do even more so with a four wheeler. Here's a quick brake-down. Remove seat and batteries then remove the rubber floor mat (be careful not to damage the rubber grommets when pulling the rubber mat up) then there are 10 screws on top and two underneath (four wheel) that will loosen the shroud up then unclip the front to rear harness (large connector neat the from steering stem) and remove the tiller by unloosening the tiller adjustment knob all the way. This will make it able to remove the tiller with stripping the whole thig apart. Next remove the tiller lock knob and then the shroud should be able to be lifted straight up. The only difference between the three and four wheel is the 12 screws on the three wheel are all on top none underneath. Hope this helps 👍

Thanks for the comment, rare to see a sport transaxle fail. Thats a tough one, if you've taken the brake off and its still locked up then its something either in the transaxle that's locked up or the motor. If its transaxle then it could be either the end bearings (no fixing that) or something jamming or jammed in the drive gears. If cost is an issue then repair might be your only option, as a new replacement is around $500 and used is always sketchy as you can't tell if it's been abused or not. Good luck Ian

@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, there is a lot of things going on with your scooter by the sound of things. If the scooter is a Victory 9 or 10 latest model (Pride made 14 variants of Victory) with the quick release feather touch release handle and it won't come apart then the two male/female pugs might be melted together due to high resistance or a loose negative battery terminal. I've delt with this in the past and found that if you remove the rear shroud if you can, you might be able to get to the connector to try and pry them apart. It's more than likely you will need to replace those connectors as they will break. If you have any doubt, take it to your local scooter repair shop if you have one near you.

My go go elite traveler has 2 concerns may be normal or not, 1 when I release the lever to go forward or backward it wants to keep going for a second or two, like if I inch up and barely touch throttle it keeps going, 2 going up light to medium incline the circuit breaker shuts off, or the scooter doesn’t have enough power to make it up a hill. I basically had the same pride scooter from around 2008 and it would climb any hill and would stop instantly and never tripped the circuit breaker . And yes they are new 12v12ah batteries in the gogo. Am I expecting too much or is there something wrong?
@lasvegasscooterslifts6 ай бұрын
Hi Gary, even new batteries can sometimes be bad so I would get them checked out to at least rule them out. Check there is no corrosion or loose battery terminals/connectors. Normally the breaker will trip on low-speed low battery. A good test would be turn up the speed pot and try the incline again and watch the battery voltmeter to see if it's losing battery power like a rudimentary load test. If the breaker still trips and the battery gauge doesn't drop significant it could be a weak circuit breaker. A week worn motor or binding transaxle could also be a factor too. The continued travel could be a few things like not centered or damaged throttle. Wiring issue and wrong controller installed. I've seen in the past where if you install a bigger scooter controller such as a victory 9 or golden controller they are programmed to compensate for the weight difference of a larger scooter, hence to momentary continued travel. A smaller controller for a Go-Go in a Traveller Plus would cause a bucking affect.
@garyhockensmith24716 ай бұрын
@@lasvegasscooterslifts I am an auto mechanic and the first thing I checked when I got back was load test the batteries, I would agree on the throttle control because when you let off and has something in the way it still wants to push forward until you move the scooter or the obstacle, but the upgrade I think the motor might be bad because when you hit the throttle for first time the batteries are charged it drops to half and then as speed picks up it goes back to full charge! I purchased this used and was the first time I had taken it on vacation and it doesn’t even come close to my old sonic for power even with new batteries! With the same tester you have in other videos they only drop to just under 11 volt under load! Isolated! Thanks for your help, you had fixed my old sonic when I went to Vegas one year and Southwest Airlines. Lost the insert in the pole for the seat! You brought it back to my hotel Wynns
@lasvegasscooterslifts6 ай бұрын
Sounds like it could be several things going on. If I was diagnosing the scooter I would first put the scooter in freewheel with the power off and see if the scooter is easy or hard to push. If hard to push could be faulty controller, binding brake, damaged transaxle or shorted motor which could cause the batteries to work harder until the momentum is built up hence the drop in battery power. This would also cause the circuit braker to trip if the batteries were at a lower state and at low speed. I would then do a power on brake engaged slow start then while slow driving, release the brake into freewheel to see if the brake is not disengaging. Continued travel could also be the brake not re-engaging after the throttle is released.
@garyhockensmith24716 ай бұрын
@@lasvegasscooterslifts it freewheels easy, and the brake takes 1-2 seconds after I let of the throttle to engage! Also when you let go of the throttle if you try to hold back the scooter it wants to continually pull until you let it go then it will stop pulling and brakes engage!
@lasvegasscooterslifts6 ай бұрын
The only thing I would do is change out the throttle and check the controller model number to make sure it has the correct controller installed. If it continues with a different throttle and the controller is correct it still could be the controller at fault or faulty front to rear harness.

@@lasvegasscooterslifts Yes. That's what I'm asking about on a video about transaxles. Why would it only have problems in reverse?
@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, The short answer would be something has broken inside. The long answer would be, my best guess from experience (see the next video I'm about to put up about drive and golden transaxles) without seeing the scooter, or asking about its age, past and present use I would have to hazard a guess that a part inside the transaxle has failed like the internal transfer arguer drive from the motor to the main drive gear. When the scooter is in reverse if the arguer drive is operating in the opposite direction. If this is broken it will not engage the drive gear or even lock up the drive gear. It could be the motor or brake but again without seeing the scooter to properly diagnose this is just a guess. You best way to find out would be take it to a local dealer who repairs and services scooters to get a definitive answer to your question.
@SimonNemeth Жыл бұрын
@lasvegasscooterslifts I've had it serviced but it obviously doesn't go so far as to actually diagnosing stuff like that because they would just straight up replace it, but he ran it up and down the street, forward obviously, and it went fine and kept at just over 8 mph. I noticed it struggling in reverse and making horrible noises (funnily enough it's not persistent and it hardly happened when I went out on it afterwards) while he was doing the paperwork and I notified him. He then propped it on a box, told me to run it in reverse while he put his ear to it and said "oh, your transaxle is very noisy" and that's as much as I know. I've had it not 2 years, put about 900 miles on the 100 or so miles it already had and I don't know how long the previous owner had it.

Hello from Azores Islands. I have a Citycoco cp3 (3 wheeler) and yesterday it stopped running. Everything works as normal, i can hear the motor running and see it in the tachometer moving but the scooter doesn't move at all. Do you think something in the axle broke or came loose?
@lasvegasscooterslifts2 жыл бұрын
Not sure about this brand or make of scooter as it's not something I don't deal with; I tend to strictly stick with medical scooters and powerchairs. I have worked on a few recreational things before such as e-wheels stuff, and it sounds like there is something going on with the transaxle/differential side of things. If you hear the motor turning, then yes for sure some component has broken loose or broken completely. I would start by removing the motor from the transaxle to make sure the drive from the motor to transaxle has any damage to it. Also, this way you can test the motor to make sure it's still transmitting power to the transaxle. If there are no visual components loose or broken there and you see the output spinning, then it's a strip down of the trans/diff to see what's come loose or broken. From what I see from their installation video it looks like their diff may be filled with some kind of oil so a messy job may be ahead of you. Good luck, Ian

What do you suggest may be the problem? Replace breaks and /or both motors? Scooter is 3 years old and has done only 700kms. I expected the scooter motors to last longer than that before it would have these sort of issues. It has been well looked after and not thrashed. Batteries were recharged after every ride. How long do the batteries usually last if recharged correctly? My local scooter serviceman suggests that i replace both motors and breaks or buy a new replacement scooter. Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated. Cheers Pete
@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
Hi Pete and thanks for watching. The outback or wrangler here in the US battery life depend on several factors (see my batteries video for some good advice) but typically between 3 and 5 years but it depends on many different factors. 5 beep or flash error code usually means break error and with you saying you heard a screeching sound and what your tech said I'm almost 100% positive that's your problem. If you could find which wires go to each break, normally you would do an Ohm reading with the break in the drive or locked position to see if you have a reading of usually 59 - 70ohm range, if it's an open circuit then that break is at fault. Replacing the break/s and motor/s can be a costly repair if the parts are available.

Replaced batteries with new (tested good) but range is still about 3 miles. Manufacturer suggested brake at fault and suggested I removed brake but leave electrically connected. Made no difference at all. Only thing I can think of is the motor and/or transaxle but the manufacturer says doubtful. At a loss to think what the problem is. No leakages... Any ideas? Thanks very much.
@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
Hi Malcom, wow I can't believe the manufacture told you to remove a safety feature and ride it. Did you buy the scooter from new? and do you have any warranty on the scooter? If the batteries load test good, then run the scooter for a mile or so and then put your hand on the motor (just be careful). If the motor is really hot to the touch you have either a bad motor and or transaxle. If its slightly warm, then I would still look at batteries. Check to see if there is any excessive side to side movement (5mm or more) on the wheel shafts to the transaxle, that would mean warn transaxle. Excessive inclines will decrease drive range but not to that extent.
@malcolmmorgan5342 Жыл бұрын
@lasvegasscooterslifts Thanks for your reply. Yes the m/f did tell me to run it without the brake. We live in a very flat, quiet area so I didn't see it being too problematic. Fault existed within warranty but shop blamed me for not charging it properly! Went back to shop about 6 times but said nothing wrong with it. Aunt only used it twice a week for about 2 miles total so I was charging once a week. We only discovered fault after a longer trip than usual. (About 4 miles) The shop insisted that I charged it every usage which I disagreed with. Its now 3 months or so out of warranty. I'm a retired aerospace engineer (worked on landing gear systems) so I thought I'd take a look at it myself. Brand new batteries that have been tested for capacity. Charger tested for correct output. Just completed almost 3 miles but red light. Felt motor and transaxle after all mile but both cold. 2 miles slightly warm, 3 miles a little warmer but not hot. No leakage, all clean as new. Just spoken to m/f again and he's lost for answers. Even with brake disconnected the scooter 'drags' after a few yards then releases. Wouldn't have thought this would happen with brake disconnected. I'm scratching my head...
@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
One thing it could be is a faulty bearing somewhere in the transaxle or motor itself that is locking up.
@malcolmmorgan5342 Жыл бұрын
@lasvegasscooterslifts Sorry for the delay in replying. Although I'm retired I've been busy the last few days. Yes I have come to the same conclusion. However when I did the 3 mile ride last week nothing seemed to be getting warm in the transaxle, only the motor was a little lukewarm shall we say. I've had it running up on blocks also, there is no noise and both wheels are rotating normally. The way I look at it is that it should be doing about 9 miles so we're only getting 33%. Something, electrical or mechanical should be getting hot, but it isn't. I don't know if there's some sort of voltage regulator or a resistor in the feed. I've changed the potentiometer already. It's finding time now to strip it all down. A Christmas project maybe? Many thanks

I'm not sure if you are going by the battery voltmeter for your reading for distance as I have seen faulty battery gauges give me and people the impression that the millage is limited. I always use a distance app on my phone and run the scooter as far as I can until it dies to get a accrete representation of distance rather than the battery gauge.

Would you consider letting me know the dimensions of the thrust washer that you installed in this video the thickness being the most critical dimension. Thanks again for you much appreciated video.

Hi and thank you. I'm afraid each model of transaxle is slightly different and will wear differently so the size I put in the one I did was just potluck. I find that trying to find the right inner diameter hole is the hardest part and then it's a guessing game to how thick of a washer you need. I used everything from really thin 0.25mm to 1mm and sometimes thicker than that. With this type of fix, it's a matter of put one in and try it, that's why I said in the video I don't recommend this process as there is a high chance of failure and frustration. Good luck my friend. Without seeing the make, model and the scooter it's hard to say. If it's a Drive or Golden product it could be a broken drive transfer shaft from the motor to the transaxle but that's a guess. Again, without see the scooter it's hard to tell you a definitive answer. Best thing is to take it to a local scooter repair center if you have one close to you.

is going down hill bad for the Go Go brakes? After going down a few hills our new Go Go makes noise when the brake goes on. its louder the faster you go.
@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
Hey Bob, technically yes and no! If you are on quite a steep downhill gradient releasing the throttle fully to stop is not a good idea. These scooters tend to use the motor to restrict the speed downhill and the brake only contacts when you release the throttle. I would slowly release the throttle and let the motor slow you down then come to a stop. I know life dictates where you go on these scooters but regarding inclines and declines and most manufactures advise incline/decline gradients no greater than 8 deg (which is not a lot) as it is not good for the scooter and can cause damage to the motor brake and transaxle. (Not covered by your warranty). The only way I would diagnose where the noise is coming from is I would remove the brake from the motor to eliminate the brake from the equation. If the noise persists with the brake removed, then its motor and or transaxle/bearings problem. Also check you have nothing trapped between the wheel and transaxle shafts. Hope this helps. Ian

I have a pride go-chair, it's 5 years old, gets used every day, took it to my local mobility shop because it's developed an annoying "clicking" sound when driving under power, they said the motor and transaxle has worn out, is 5 years a good lifespan for this model?
@lasvegasscooterslifts9 ай бұрын
Hey Rob, manufactures don't give an indication on how long any unit will last but it's all down to wear and tear I guess, five years of heavy use then the chair might start showing some issues. The clicking sound I would get a second opinion. These chairs don't have transaxles but two independent direct drive motor gearbox on each wheel. It could be something simple like a loose wheel nut or the wheel keyway shaft just worn. if it is in fact one of the gearbox's breaking down, you'd probably be better replacing the power chair rather than replacing parts.

I have a maxima heavy-duty scooter and it's making a growling noise in the motor or the gearbox. Where I don't know but it's sounds like a combustible engine lol 😆 would you happen to know what or where the problem is ?
@lasvegasscooterslifts2 жыл бұрын
Hey Wolfman, one thing you can do is check to see if there is anything trapped between the rear wheels and the axle shafts. I've seen it many times where some people have run over rope, wire and even rocks they can get caught up and cause noise. If there is nothing there, then to rule out the brake try releasing the brake while you're riding the scooter if the noise goes away then the brake could be the problem (please do this with caution as you will not have an active brake). If the noise continues, then you're looking at motor bearings and/or worn transaxle/bearings. Ian

I have buzz around extreme that’s presenting the 5 beep, brake error code. The terminals on top of the brake itself are showing continuity. But when I test the leads that come out of the brake and through the snap switch, I have no continuity. Could the snap switch be the problem? Please help-it belongs to my mom and her insurance doesn’t cover these expensive machines. Thanks.

When you remove the rear section from the front of the scooter on the rear section there should be four connectors, two for the brake and two for the motor. with the brake in the lock or drive position place your multi meter on the two brake connectors and set your multi meter to ohm reading. You should be getting 54.0Ω +/- or there abouts. Check or any broken wires and loose connections while you there. If you are getting OL or 0 reading on your multimeter, then your brake is bad will need to be replaced. From one of the wires from the brake itself to the connector on the rear secion that connects to the front you should get continuity but not on both, only an Ω reading. Hope this helps. Ian

@@lasvegasscooterslifts Hey, thanks for such a quick response and your generosity. Many people wouldn’t respond, and those that would, not with as much detail as you did. I’m subscribing and liking just for that, even though your content is worthy of both. Now back to the scooter. While waiting for your response, I bypassed the snap switch, to see if the brake harness that plugs into the the “rear intermediate connector”, would get continuity. It did! So the snap switch was bad! I’m so enthusiastic about that because the switch probably cost a couple of dollars, whereas I was almost on the way to buy a brake-motor assembly or even a brand new scooter. This was my Christmas gift from Santa, lol! Thanks again for your videos!

@@lasvegasscooterslifts Allow me to beg your help again, please. I’m the guy who guess having the brake fault issue and found it was the snap switch. I it’s the switch bypassed, and the scooter put back together, on the lowest speed setting (turtle) the scooter won’t move in reverse at all. Went move all the way to rabbit it will go into reverse. It’s it possible I orientated the motor onto the transaxle or brake onto the motor wrong?
@lasvegasscooterslifts2 жыл бұрын
Hey, I did leave a response to your second post, but it looks like KZbin lost it somewhere!! As for your bypass I said in my lost post that I think you might have just fooled the controller into thinking the brake circuit is OK and the brake isn't electronically releasing. Is there audible click from the brake when you press and release the throttle? Two ways of testing this is put the scooter in freewheel mode (power on) and see what happens when you press the throttle. If you have fixed the problem, then it should beep five times. If you have just bypassed the system, then it should drive normally but is not safe to use this way. I'm thinking the reason its super slow in reverse is because the brake is in the drive position and is not being released by the controller because of your bypass. Ian
@autocompletellc99062 жыл бұрын
@@lasvegasscooterslifts Hey, thanks for your response again. And yea, youtube seems to lose comments regularly, in my experience. I can tell you for sure that I have fooled the controller, because I completely removed the bad switch from the circuit. It will drive in both the freewheel and locked position and does not set a beep code either way. Earlier, I removed the control panel cover at the handle bar and wiggled the wiring going to the speed pot. Now on the lowest setting, it will reverse. I don’t know if that was a coincidence or not, or if something else happened in the interim. But the motor braking works as normal when I release the throttle. Are you saying the switch not only signals to the controller that there is power at the switch, but also releases the brake when the throttle is engaged? Do you think that once I purchase the replacement snap switch and install it that my problem will be resolved? Or do you think the new switch will suffer the same fate as the bad one from some unknown, underlying issue? I’m still trying to figure out what made the switch fail in the first place. Upon visual inspection, there was no sign of shorting out like the plastic exterior melting or charring or smelling or anything of the sort Thanks again.

Hi Ian, just an update on my problem. Power as I mentioned is coming to the rear of the scooter, when I put in reverse there is the reverse sound coming through, when I press drive I get a clicking sound, if I change break position it blinks the blue light 9 times. The scooter is a Komfi aerolite, very much like the kymco k- lite. Is this any help.?
@lasvegasscooterslifts2 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, the nine-flash code is indicating that the brake leaver is in the natural position and needs to be in the lock/drive position before turning the scooter on. If you don't have a user manual for your scooter it can be found here www.manualslib.com/download/1519024/Komfi-Rider-Aerolite-Plus.html If you go to page 19 it gives you a list of error code to help you decipher any errors with the scooter. If the noise you are hearing is a beeping when it is reverse this is quite normal. The clicking sound should be the electromagnetic brake releasing when the throttle is depressed. Check you speed dial is turned up. Check your power indicator dial on the tiller that the needle is in the green and not in the yellow or red. If your batteries are over a year old, you might want to consider changing them for new ones. If all the above is ok, it could be a number of things such as throttle or speed dial problem or even worse a transaxle problem. Without seeing the scooter in person it's hard to diagnose.

Hi Edmund, If the transaxle has broken then I would recommend replacing the transaxle rather than fixing it. Removing the transaxle is not going to be an easy job due to the weight of the scooter. most pride scooters, anything to do with the transaxle can only be bought as a complete motor, brake and transaxle and normally the cost of replacing the part can outweigh the price of just buying a new scooter. Hey Ed, unfortunately I do not have a Raptor in store to show you anything I've only worked on an EW36 and EW72 which have a different style drive system to the Raptor. As far as I'm aware it's the same set up as all Pride scooters. Remove the wiring from the motor and brake from the main harness, Jack up the scooter and place blocks under the frame to stabilize the scooter somehow and remove both rear wheels. Then I would look for the transaxle bolts that secure the transaxle to the frame to remove the transaxle so you can work on a bench rather than while it's on the scooter. Good Luck my friend.

@lasvegasscooterslifts Жыл бұрын
Hi Steven, on scooter transaxles when the scooter is lifted with no friction to the wheels a good transaxle both wheels should turn in the same direction. If one wheel is kept stationary the other lifted wheel should turn in the direction of travel. The only time I've seen wheels turn in opposite directions is on the ZT8, ZT 10 and power wheelchairs, where the controllers reverse the opposite turning wheel to turn the other direction for tighter turning. I would say there might be a problem with gears or worn damaged bearings in the transaxle if one wheel is turning the opposite direction.

Sound like electronic brake failing to me that's attached to the motor. that would be the first place I would look. If the brake isn't automatically disengaging and is staying locked on the power will be reduced and the motor will be getting hot from resistance from the brake. Try putting your hand on the brake lever located on the motor and see if you can feel a distinct click and movement in the brake handle. If it was a wiring issue the system should report a brake error. If not, it might be the hub brakes looked on.

Yes normally the motor will reduce the speed slightly and then the EMB will lock the motor to stop the scooter. Even though the brake might be working ok and not giving any errors, if its worn and loose it can stop the brake from releasing correctly giving you the problems you are saying. Also wiring could still be a candidate, even if you test each wire for continuity and they are ok I would move the harness while testing to make sure there is no wear or broken wires or bad connections in any of plugs and harness.

Hi Martin, it's fine line between separation causing slipping of the drive gears and too snug that can cause much pressure on the gears, that would cause a binding effect and lead to excessive battery drain. I've found that better to be a little slack but enough to cause slipping than a tight fit.

I would test the new brake and make sure it reads 49-54 ohm in the locked drive position if not the brake is faulty. Use the top two pins of the front to rear connector on the rear section to do the test. Also, it could be a damaged microswitch, check for continuity on the two wires going to the microswitch in the drive and freewheel position it should be OL in one position and connected circuit in the other position. Also check continuity from the microswitch to the rear pins. If everything reads ok, then you might have a wiring issue to the controller on the front section connectors to the controller or a controller issue.
