Kick ass! I have a board to fix today, and have some left other broken board foam to use. This is a great video. I would add, what's the drying time typically before deciding to sand after the layer of filler? Then time before glossing?

what is a hot coat? When glossing do you use the same epoxy/resin mixture you used for the repair or is it a separate chemical?
@OEFarredondo4 жыл бұрын
It’s resin and hardener/catalyst or what ever your using. Nothing else just straight resin n hardener. You could if you want to do a little extra work and gloss out the spot.

I have to now paint my tail ding repair. Can you give a little advice. What type of paint, and or pigment, base, option for home do you recommend? This is what I'm thinking. I had to use epoxy resin to match the manufacturer's resin type and for the eps inside. I have to do brown background with little tiny dashes to make it look like bamboo, a very dark blue stripe, and then white back ground. I was going to just get a small cheap harbor freight air brush kit. Should I be adding pigment to the epoxy? I'm worried about the epoxy yellowing if I try it that route. What about acrylic and then epoxy over as the fiberglass store here recommends? Rust-oleum universal expensive $8 spray paints always seem to have the best bond for box store spray paints in my experience. What type of clear coat should I use? On my shelf I have a can of professional-ish spraymax 2k glamour high gloss clear coat which has an activator you mix inside the can after pushing a button on the bottom. I also picked up one of those prevail sprayers (home paint can device) for $8 at the fiberglass store to try also. I have had bad dark yellowing results by mixing white pigment with epoxy in the past for a boat ding; wish I knew about microspeheres then.
@thelordofthedingsrepairs8 жыл бұрын
+Olga Stewart you can just use water based paint, and then spray acrylic krylon on top of it. I don't know where you live, but Nova Color , in Los Angeles area sells the best water base paint for surfboards. buy yourself a spray gun at home depot , for less then 30 dollars, mix the paint with water, about 25 to 35%, or until the paint runs, but not drip from the mixing stick. good luck!

I got a old board because I just started surfing, but the board needs some MAJOR repairs. It has at least 3 holes and a bunch of scratch marks, do you think a simple ding repair kit would do the job well than simply turning it in to get it professionally done?

Hi Moura, great video! I just have a question. I couldn't find white pigment, do you know if there is any other white paint that might work adding to the filler? Enamel? Acrylic? Gouache? IN the other hand I bought a white spray, but in your video seems that you apply it after sandiong the hot coating... is not supposed to be hot coating the last step? If I decide to pain with white spray, what should be the right order? Thanks!

you get the foam from a old surfboard. attatch the piece of foam to the area with resin filler and let dry. After it dries, bring this attatched piece of foam to the shape of the board.

Would you still use the grinder on a shortboard that doesn't have as much fiberglass/resin on it as the board in the video might?
@Njsrufrider4 жыл бұрын
Or would you just use a more aggressive sandpaper/sander
@thelordofthedingsrepairs15 жыл бұрын
you should sand off all damaged fibers and foam from the area, making a perfect shaped area for the new foam. cut off any old foam from a old surfboard and glue it on with filler. After filler dries, sand the foam, bringing it to the shape of the board. Make sure foam its a hair lower then the surfface. Now you can place the new fibers over the foam. Good luck.

Took my board glossed finished board to a guy I found on yelp who had some good reviews dude fixed the ding sure and it’s watertight but he didn’t do a gloss coat or even match the resin color now I just have a giant dark blue mark on my light blue surfboard that’s doesn’t even match the shine of the board got ripped of it sucks because I waited 6 months for that board and the moment some kook drops in on me and dings it I get some giant mark left on my board should’ve just taken it to a professional repair place where they would have done it right I would have gladly waited a week or two for it to be done right like I had in the past rip
