Eric (and Mr. Chapin) I've watched your videos repeatedly, especially about concrete tile. Keep them coming! I used Malarky omni seal 420/430 on my low slope barn based off your videos. It came out great. I'm in north San Diego county, just a DIY guy but I like to learn. I've moved on to my next project, 1200 Sq. foot garage with flat gray concrete Lifetile. Pulled them all, new plywood where needed, replacing T n G (shiplap) under the eaves etc. I'll do the double 30# like you said. 99 % of the 2 X10 fascia was in great shape. A little Bondo for the 1%. If you have time, a few questions: 1) What's the purpose of eve risers for the 1st course of tile? I have 1 X 4 that was used which is original to the building so I'll keep it, but what's the reason for it? 2) I'm buying a Hitachi framing nail gun. I have 1100 tiles roughly for the garage and I don't want to spend an eternity hand nailing. Why do you only put 1 nail in the field tiles? When I pulled the tiles they all had 2 put in 35 years ago when it was built. Does the jagged framing nailer tip damage the tiles?? 3) I have the same tongue and grove 1" x 8" under the eves as is pretty standard in a lot of So. Cal homes. None of those tiles ever blew off during the Santa Ana's but literally 90% of them were barely nailed down because the nail gun nails were "2 inch shorts" as I call them. I get it they don't want to see nails from under the eves. You mention foam. Any advice on where a DIY guy can get tile foam? I see DOW makes it at $28 a can but it seems ehhhhh. The TRI guide (a good resource for any DIY'ers) TILE ROOFING INSTITUTE suggest some 1 x 1 battens more or less over the T n G so you have something to sink the nail in. Great videos, more tile ones, keep them coming. Make some Mr. Chapin t-shirts , him holding the nailer standing on the roof! Thanks for your advice.

Eave riser is for: to make the first course elevated and also the eave riser has small holes to let any water to run on top of the edge metal...back in the days they used a wood strip of 1x2 to elevate the first course...but that system damages the first course of shiplap when the water stops there and does not run all the way to the edge metal

I have a leak in a add on room I did. Is it possible it’s leaking because the valley flashing is under neath the new add on roof? My house has regular shingles but my add on roof has roll roofing.
@Garciasroofing4 жыл бұрын
Whoever did your roll roofing probably didn't seal it right. They should've tucked the roll roofing under the shingles at least 12 inches
@kkp42974 жыл бұрын
this is why I like open valleys and mortar under the edges of valley tile so debris does not dam up the valley, leaving a wide clean channel in the valley for water flow. I have tight-cut valley on my house, and it fills up with mud and makes it prone to leaks.

Didn’t u say in previous videos that people who use peel and stick don’t have confidence in their skills???
