This was a very helpful video. I had 4 contiguous flat concrete roof tiles that were damaged by a falling tree. I followed the directions in the video and was able to replace them without any problems. Thank you Excel Roofing.

Would have been informative is the tiles were nailed , this was an easy peasy repair but what happens if you run into a roof where the contractor nails the tile?

I saw a video with a NAIL in the tile... He used a Nail Puller, by reaching way up there with a Nail puller, only had to pull the NAIL out a fraction of the way and then the TILE Slides right out with the Nail. The NAIL was kinda dangling in place but pulled out enough to slide the Tile

Casey, All Tiles are different. Take a tile to your local roofing supply house and they will identify the manufacture and color of the tile you need. They should be able to order the tile, or direct you where to go.

Wait I thought you said not to walk on the roof. How are you supposed to get to broken tiles?

You have to walk on the tiles. As I said try to stay off the roof as much as possible. Try to find a skinny guy to do the roof work. Thanks for commenting!

If roof was leaking where broken tile was does felt need to be replace or new tile should do it?

Hey Kings, If there is a leak under the tile we remove as many tile s are necessary to find the problem. If it's something simple like a nail hole, use a high quality sealant such as NP1to seal the hole. If it's a section of bad felt, we would remove the wood battens and replace the underlayment (felt) with Ice and water shield, synthetic underlayment or both then reapply the battens and tile. Always perform a water test to ensure the leak is fixed before the tiles are reinstalled.

@@ExcelRoofing my problem is i have a cracked tile, water started leaking through got sheet rock wet in ceiling.My question is can i replace tile and will that stop leak? Or do i have to replace felt also?

@@Kings-vs7om Fixing the broken tile will keep MOST of the water out, however a small amount of water is expected to get under tile. I would recommend repairing the felt also.

Why some tiles are not nailed down?

In years past, depending on the region, all tiles were not required to be nailed down. Other times the installer cheated and didn't nail them when they should have been.

In the US there not normally on battens ! Nailed directly to board below !!
