Thought my old bike needed both tubes replaced but nope! Just called my dad to tell him how pumped I was to have repaired my bike pump, so not only did you help me learn something new and save a few bucks, but you also gave us a solid dad joke. Thank you!

Handy, simply taking the pump apart can intuitively lead to rectifying the problem. My pump wouldn’t go down but no its fixed. Learnt a lot.

Thank you for the video Tony. May I ask, if the needle within pressure gauge is not moving - does any tip in this video help us fix that? Thank you!

If you can fill the tire but the gauge doesn't work, the gauge may have to be replaced. If air doesn't come out of the pump (or very little), there could be a leak in the pump tubing or chuck. What make pump do you have?

My old Schwinn pump had a torn o ring inside. But after replacing and greasing, I don't feel any resistance when pushing the handle down. It's not moving any air. Would appreciate any ideas.
@tony10speed
@tony10speed 4 ай бұрын
Sounds like the o-ring may not be the right size. Other possibilities include a leak somewhere along the pump hose, either at it's attachment to the pump or chuck. But my bet is the o-ring is too small. Getting the right size for an old pump is going to involve some trail and error unless you find one for your exact model pump on the internet or ebay. You could try a hardware store or Home Depot and get several different o-rings to try.

do you think I can probably be use the standard technique of inserting a hose barb and clamp on a bike pump should I decide that I dont like the air chuck ? I mean I think my theory is I may one to place it with a quick connect so I can easly attach the appropriate needed part so again Maybe a quick connect with barb and clamp should work ? thoughts please thank you

I've tried and it's hard to get the clamp tight enough to hold the hose on the chuck let alone the pump. I've tried a number of different clamps and it's hit or miss (mostly miss). Let me know if you have better luck. Regards and safe cycling, Tony

HI tony what I forgot to mention is I just tried to see if I could get a new air compressor or something but it has a bike pump style air hose and it does not have an out put regulator so my proposed idea was to put a regulator in the out put hose and also change the chuck to universal tip so it seem if I modify from orginal designed it I would have luck with it it I will have created a better product I think theoerticaly it shoud work I guess i can let you know if I have any future ideas !

Have you been able to fix a pump with the Topeak repair kit?
@tony10speed
@tony10speed 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The old pump I fixed had the same size tubing as the Topeak repair kit - that made it easy. What I don't like about the Topeak kit it that the lever on the chuck is difficult to lock in place.

Wiggle Lifeline floor pump O-ring seems to be just larger than 28mm so I think it is 1 1/8 inch 28.6mm which I have yet to source but I will one day.

@@tony10speed I bought the wrong size again! I bought o-rings with the sum of interior diameter plus thickness being 28.7 but I should have bought interior diameter plus twice the thickness. Stupid. This is getting expensive. A 28mm with tape under it just about works.

Don't forget the check valve at the base of the pump. If the handle shoots up at you, this is your problem. Silca pumps accumulate all kinds of gunk over the decades, because they last long enough to get these problems!

My Lezyne floor pump is working in general, but as soon as I release the handle after pressing on it, the gauge goes back to zero. The handle raises just a bit and the pump makes a lot of noise for a few seconds. When the handle is pressed down, the pressure reading is correct. Maybe you would have any ideas? :)
@tony10speed
@tony10speed Жыл бұрын
Most Lezne pumps have a threaded chuck as opposed to one that has a chuck with a lever that locks it in place. When you disengage the pump by either opening the lever on the chuck or unscrewing the Lezne tubing, air is released from the pump tubing and cylinder (giving a "whooshing" sound) and the pump gauge will fall. This is normal. Meanwhile, the air in the tire pushes up on the valve core, closing the valve and preventing the air from leaking out of the tube/tire. For Presta valve, one can then lock the tire valve by turning the small tip clockwise. Hope this help in understanding what goes on and what your experiencing is entirely normal.
@HandfulOfHypercubes
@HandfulOfHypercubes Жыл бұрын
@@tony10speed Thanks for the answer. The problem is that a week ago the gauge started to fall back to as soon as I stop pushing on the handle, without unscrewing the chuck from the valve. So when pumping, the reading goes down randomly (sometimes to zero, sometimes to a few psi) after each stroke. The whole pump is vibrating loudly as it happens. I will try to service the check valve at see if this helps.
@tony10speed
@tony10speed Жыл бұрын
@@HandfulOfHypercubes If the same problem occurs with other wheels, it's probably not a leak in the clincher or leak from around the rim of a tubeless and may well be the pump. Parts are available through Amazon and Modernbike once you can diagnose the problem (which may not be easy). It would be nice if they sold a complete repair kit similar to that of Silca. Lenze has a number of repair video on KZbin if you just search on "repair lenze floor pump" which you may find useful. Let me know how you make out. Regards, Tony

Where to find replacement hose parts? I damaged the fitting that goes into the bottom of my floor pump, and I'm having trouble finding a replacement. It's about 10mm, with a coarse thread. I'd either want just a fitting, or the entire hose. I see a lot of them with a narrower fitting, or with a fine thread.

@@tony10speed Model 861, made in Taiwan, by CPC Cycle. I discovered that this company makes (or made) many bicycle related items. This turned out to be an excellent question, since it got me to look closer at the logo on the pump. I had misread the brand last time I looked.

@@tony10speed Thank you for digging up CPC Cycle. Before I asked here, I went to my local hardware store, which also caters to bicyclists and XC skiers. They had one hose fitting around the right diameter, but the thread was too fine. I see the coarser thread mentioned on eBay by sellers of hoses (usually by warning you that's not what they have), but I can't find just the fitting I need. I think it was common to a lot of floor pumps at one time.

@@tony10speed I have another pump with the same fitting, made by "Cyclepro Accessories," no model number. I couldn't find any parts on eBay, either, but it's more a matter of matching the diameter and threads. It's either 3/8" or 9mm or or 9.5mm or 10mm, with a coarse thread. It's hard to measure the exact size with a ruler.

what if the air leak is coming from the main body of the pump, where the hose is attached? that’s where inhear the air leaking
@tony10speed
@tony10speed 5 ай бұрын
You might be able to tighten the hose attachment (it usually screws in clock wise). If the hose is attached via a clamp, the clamp may need to be tightened or replaced. If it's the hose itself, you'll need to replace the hose. Check the manufacturers web site. There are replacement hoses with attachments (such as from Topeak) but they don't work with all pumps and are expensive.

Using a push on pull off hose with a non threaded valve will prevent wear of the gasket in the pump head.

Yes, that's true, although some complain that a smooth valve head allows the tube to bulge out at the valve opening and burst at this point. I have not seen this happen and it may reflect of the quality of the bicycle tube used. What are your thoughts?

If there are no cracks in the pump tubing, it might well be the cylinder valve inside the pump. Open the pump either be removing bolts at the cylinder head or unscrew the pump head at the top. Pull out the piston and take a look. If it's felt fabric, a little silicon, grease or even better some Vaseline on the piston valve may revive it and prevent air leakage. In other cases, you may have to replace the piston valve or "O" ring. If that doesn't solve the problem, you'll need to look for leakage near the gauge. Let me know how you make out, Tony
