DUDE! I had this exact problem with my Bose Companion 20's. I was looking for a video on replacing the speaker and found this. Since I happened to have some spray FlexSeal at the house I thought I'd try it. When I was ready to apply it, I sprayed some out on a piece of cardboard and brushed it on. Well, that was last night and the spreaker seems to be working great. You saved me a TON OF MONEY - my wife wanted me to buy new speakers. Thanks!!!

BRILLIANT IDEA!!😃💡One of my JBL speakers sounds just like that & I thought right away that I'm gonna have to buy a pair of replacement speakers to fix it, but after seeing your video I'm definitely gonna see if it's a tear similar to yours first. Thanks!!

Same problem with our bose companion 20 for a couple of yrs now. Last yr, we brought it to the service center here in the phils, but they say it’s a disposable one. I never thought we could fix them again. Thanks for your video, it finally worked! My speakers are of good sounds again. I just purchase a silicone rubber sealant and applied to all the tears around the rubber parts of the speakers and viola..sounds were fixed. A warm thanks to you!

Your method with flex seal seems to look more professional than my globby fix! Hahaha...I dont care how it looks! I care how it sounds! Now I'm gonna have to try your idea the next time I need to repair a speaker! Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time out to help others with posting this video! I was about to buy a new speaker! Found a pair of floor speakers by another company that’s not Sony and would’ve cost $169 which are sold in pairs (2)! Sony speakers run in the $200-$300 range just for one! Wasn’t paying that just for one - speaker. I searched on youtube and found your video to see if it could be fixed and Wallah 🎉I did it! $30 for glues and a pack small craft paint brushes to apply glue (Amazon) + replacing dust cones that fell off (2 for $15) on ebay. The total cost to repair was $45 vs $169 new speakers. Thank you so much!

Replacing a rubber surround (or even foam) is cheaper than a small can of Flex Seal. They cost 10 bucks each from various websites and come with the correct adhesive (if you select the correct one for your cone) to do the job. The smell is a concern. I need to repair a few cat claw poke holes in the Paradigms in my man cave. Every time the subs hit, that smell will be blown right at me LOLOL.

Bose computer speakers are notorious for this problem. I love the sound but have 4 sets piled up that have awful distortion. Thanks, this video is great. Only problem is not showing how to remove the speaker grill without damaging it? Just a thought, since you have the speaker open would it be a good idea to paint the entire rubberized part of the speaker with the Flex Seal? Maybe a few coats? Would it harm the speaker function or just add years of great listening?

You said you dont have CA glue but you have superglue......superglue is a brand of CA glue. I think Flexseal was a good solution for this fix but just a warning: I would not use it to glue a surround to the cone or basket: I just bought an infinity 12" subwoofer for a project and it looks like someone used some black goop - possibly flex seal to repair it. it is comng apart. i pulled the whole surround away from the basket rather easily, it was not a good bond. scraping all the goop off now and using CA GEL. If that doesnt work i'll try Heavy duty contact cement.

It would have been wiser to replace the surround ring, than try and patch it up. Putting in a patch will kill a fair amount of audio frequencies. If the surround fails and breaks under normal usage stress, it will happen again in other locations, and each time you patch it, you will lose a lot of sound quality, that this speaker can normally give out. I'd either replace the surround ring with a new one ( and do both speakers at the same time so they remain equal). Surround ring replacements are not expensive, and if careful, not all that hard to replace, to get the speaker back to properly working ability, giving out all it's proper audio frequencies. Putting in a patch can shift, or pull the audio coil against the magnet, and possibly end up, shorting out the audio section of your receiver, or amp. I have replaced surround rings many times, which also up grades the speaker's value, compared to an ugly patch being seen. I'm doing just that right now, with an older set of 75 watt Realistic speakers. Once done, you'll never know the surround ring was replaced. These speakers will work like brand new again, giving off all it's audio frequencies properly, as intended by the factory. I'll trust my repair over this sloppy repair. When buying speakers, I pay a good dollar for good ones, but if I see a patch, or sloppy repair, I pay next to no money for them, if I even buy them at all. I paid $5 for this pair, due to badly damaged surround rings that were patched up. I might add, the patches were pulling the cone off center when I got them, and the audio coil was slightly rubbing against the magnet. The coil will work properly, and not rubbing, once I finish working on these. It's better to do the job right the first time, so they will last for another 50 years, without damage, and great audio.

@TeksTherapy2 жыл бұрын
Oh, I thought the distorted sound was a form of distortion. My bad dude 😶
@waynedavies31852 жыл бұрын
@@TeksTherapy The noise you heard was the ripped ring, vibrating. Once you replace the ring, you will not hear that vibrating. It's not called distortion; it's just called, "un-wanted speaker damage buzz". Distortion occurs from the unit's amp out-put transistors are acting up, or if a radio is set slightly off-frequency/frequency out of sink to the received station (tuner not tuned properly at oscillator tuner section), and the audio from the amp. itself is heard fuzzy, (that's working with good operating speakers, hooked up to the amp) .
