I have a 1991 ZZR600, previous owner dropped it and scratched the hell out of the front fairing and finding replacement fairings is almost impossible. I am going to try this!

That's brilliant mate! I cracked a few things on a camping trip last week and am loathed to face the cost of replacing them with the likelihood they'll get cracked again. Superb.

Thank you so much for your videos! Unfortunately, I don't have all those products in my country, but it is amazing to know that there are ways to do it yourself. In service, such fixes would cost hundreds of dollars. I hope those videos will help as many people as possible.

you can try a cyanoacrylate based glue and some baking soda, here in Argentina I would use La gotita for example

Good stuff! You might want to drill a small hole at the end or ends of the crack, helps to keep the crack from creeping.

@howtowithkel33524 жыл бұрын
If the crack is perfect. Just make sure you only score the back side. Seal the front well with tape and you will be good to go. Watch part 3 of this series to get a tutorial on the above method.

I had success using a similar method. Abs cement from the hardware store mixed with fine abs grindings/powder which can be taken from abs plumbing pipe.

Hi Kel, Thanks for the valuable video you have here. Wondering if you can shed a little more advice for me. I have a fairing with a small crack next to a mounting position on it, i would imagine the previous owner over tightened it and a small crack has resulted. My question is, I want to use this plastex to repair it, however on the back of the fairing is the standard insulation which is in perfect condition, as most bikes my model are missing this or its torn i really do not want to remove any of it. SO...can I do the repair from the front side of the fairing? you mention it can be sanded so i am thinking that should be OK?? anyway thanks a lot.
@howtowithkel3352 Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes you can repair it from the front no problem at all. Just sand it flat, undercoat and paint.

Hi Kel, that Plastex I pretty impressive. I know plastics have changed quite a bit over the last few decades. I see what you are working on is fairly new. Have you used Plastex for on any old fairings from the 80s? I have a fairing from an 85 Honda Elite scooter & wondered if plastex would bond to that plastic?

How do I repaint my plastic panels after they’ve already been painted how do I prep them ??
@howtowithkel33524 жыл бұрын
Ok, if they are in good condition and do not need any filler work. Just wet sand with 600 grit paper until the surface is dull, clean with wax and grease remover and paint them. If they need filler work. Sand the repair areas with 240 or 320 grit, fill and wet sand with 400 grit. Clean and use a primer filler to spray just the repairs. Wet sand these primed areas with 600 grit and then clean and paint them in the finish color. After you have covered the repairs then wet sand the whole part with 600 grit until dull, clean and paint the fairing as normal.
