How to Repair GAMEBOY Color Burn Screen Polariser | Super Easy [Tutorial]

The Screen burns seen on Game Boy screens usually are in the polarizer and the optically clear glue which attaches the plastic polarizer to the glass. We’re guessing these burns happen when someone leaves their Game Boy out in the sun. Between the sun rays directly striking the top polarizer and the rays bounced back from the reflector at the rear of the screen, that poor polarizer doesn’t stand a chance.

In my case this happened to all my Gameboys that were safely stored in closed boxes inside the closet, no sunlight whatsoever. I heard many stories like mine too, perfectly good Gameboys stored away from sunlight suddenly had their screens burned. It may be because of the heat, not the light.

Dude! Finally I found a video with an actual WORKING link for the polarizer filter! I already got one but its the wrong one even tho I kept an eye on the describtion of the produkt... seems like a lot of sellers are selling polarizers for backlit models only but fail to put that info into the describtion. So thanks buddy!

For this restoration, Game Boy color LCDs use "circular polarization film", which is different than this linear polarization film. The original Gameboy and Gameboy pocket use linear. Link for polarizer is in the description

@@HeyHaffiz I though all Gameboys used the same kind of filter, so thanks for letting me know that GBC ones are different. Can you give me the full specification of the GBC kind? Importing is very expensive in my country, so I'd like to look for the filter in local stores. If I use the word "circular" I get only camera filters in the results... Thanks!

Can you use polarizing films used for smartphones to the gameboy color as well?

Not all depends on the type of polarizer film the phone is using. There are 2 types circular and linear polarization film, linear is for the Original Game Boy DMG and the Game Boy Pocket while circular is used for GBC and GBA. Different phones use a different polarizer
