Tip : put some scotch tape over the labels in the future while you wash the shells.

Hi, where can I buy the polarized ?
@BorderlineOCD
@BorderlineOCD 4 жыл бұрын
I got these from eBay. You can use any 'linear' polarization film. It has to be linear for the Game Boy DMG and Pockets. It's a different film for the Game Boy Color.

You can buy a bigger sheet but you might need to find the best angle to cut it i.e. no guarantee that it will be a perfect square from the corner, it might be a diamond shape, if that makes sense. The pre-cut ones have this factored in. There are videos that show how to best cut a sheet.

Hi Borderline! Uh, sorry to ask but... What do i need to study to do things like this? I really want to know how to repair electronics
@BorderlineOCD
@BorderlineOCD 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Javier! Repairing electronics began as a hobby I practiced in my spare time. I got better with patience and practice (and mistakes along the way!) There's a lot you can learn from Google/KZbin while you're still in school. How old are you?

@@BorderlineOCD i am 26 years old, i am very interested in electronics and videogames, i have in my possession some PS1 and PS2 consoles and they need to be fixed so i am open to learning

Ah thats great for some reason I assumed you might be much younger so I wanted to make sure my recommendation would be age appropriate. There's no single way to get started so adjust to suit your preference. I would recommend you start with a few bits of gear and something to work on (that you don't mind screwing up). I started with the cheapest multimeter and soldering iron that I could find and they both lasted several years before I felt I exhausted what they had to offer. Search for "soldering project kit" on Amazon and pick one that you like. In between, watch some KZbin videos on soldering tips for beginners, research the components in your project kit so you get an idea what they do and how they work. Measure them for fun and learn the basics of your multimeter. Most importantly just have fun with it and see how you like it. You'll work your way up to more complex boards to work on and better gear down the line. Most of the time you can find a repair video that will give you ideas on what to look for when fixing your own appliances, consoles etc. To start out with this hobby I don't think you need much, especially if you're eager and excited and just want to get your hands dirty.

I find it even harder on the DMG Game Boy because the screen is soldered to the board in two places. Make sure you're in a good state of mind and your afternoon is wide open :P

Hey! I love your vids and hands (?)... BTW... I bought a GBC with a burn screen and I was thinking to follow your lead, but I'm not sure if there is any different between consoles.
@BorderlineOCD
@BorderlineOCD 3 жыл бұрын
If it's the front polarizer thats damaged I believe it can be replaced on the GBC. They are not the same though. The GBC uses a circular polarizer. The ones I use in this video are linear polarizers and will not work on the GBC.

So I can do this with some of my old (collection) Palm Zire 21 devices? One or other have this screen burn*... But, I don't think I'll find ones in perfect size for my devices.

You can buy a sheet of polarizing film and cut it yourself. You need to look for "linear" polarization film. Some of them are the adhesive kind so it can be a pain in the butt to put them on without air bubbles but they work well.

this is not a screen burn, this is a chemical reaction on polarizer film that happens with age
@BorderlineOCD
@BorderlineOCD 4 жыл бұрын
Yes technically you're right, it's not screen burn in the manner it's used to describe CRT burn-in but for better or worse that's how it's often referred to in eBay listings or discussion posts about this issue so its a popular keyword to describe these symptoms.

You were supposed to remove the cartridge metal shielding before washing the case. Everybody knows that metal rusts!
@BorderlineOCD
@BorderlineOCD 2 жыл бұрын
You must have been an Arts major and not a Science major ;) While stainless steel is not immune from rust, it is extremely rust resistant. The shield is not made of iron. A soap wash and blow dry will not introduce any rust.
