Been watching your videos for years. Did this exact repair on 2 slides on a 2005 Winnebago Adventurer last year and remember combing your channel to see if you delt with it before. I'm glad I took the time to learn how the system works but damn this video would have been nice at the time. 😂

James, Just for info, that sliding sleeve on the cylinder rod is a mechanical stop to prevent the cylinder rod from extending to far. The rod is supported by the seals on the end and the seals in the 'head' you removed. That sleeve provides about 12"-16" space between the seals otherwise you'd only have maybe and inch or two between the seals allowing the inner rod to become out of line with the outer cylinder tube, putting more pressure on the seals causing them to leak. Good that you rebuilt both rams however they should have had the synchronizing cylinder rebuilt as well. Chances are high that it is going to fail down the road and possible cause more serious problems. I can attest to that. I had the seals on my sync cyl fail and it allowed my slide to only make one of the rams operate, causing the slide to come in crooked and twist (front slide with a raised floor) . It got bound up where I couldn't extend or retract the slide and couldn't even drive it anywhere for repairs. It even bowed the side wall pulling the floor away from the side. Fortunately this happened in our driveway and we had just returned from a trip where we spend a weekend in Death Valley .... 250 miles from nowhere ! Thank god we made it back to Florida before this had happened. Long story short we finally were able to manually jack the slide around to get it pushed back in and up to an old Monaco Service Center in Central Fla to get it repaired. I was able to get the rams & sych Cyl repaired for about $115 each. In the end I had about a $9,000 bill. About a moth later I started having a leak in one of the cyls on the other front slide start leaking but I caught it before any damage occurred. Lesson learned is if one seal leaks replace all of them in the system. This was in a 2005 45 ft Monaco Executive. Great video showing how everything works. BTW, bleeding the air out of that sync cyl takes a special procedure as it's a blind end cylinder with fluid in both side of the ram seal that's in the center.

I really wish there were more hydraulic slide out system manufacturers other than HWH and now Lippert. It seems like HWH is always overworked and very expensive, who knows about the quality of Lippert slides. The opportunity is ripe for the taking

I have a Rexhall Roseair and have an tip in/tip out issue. When the slide out is out the right side of the slide is not sealing on the upper part of the slide out (closest to the driver seat). I can't figure out how to adjust that tip in/tip out. My system is nearly identical to this one. Can you either explain how to or point me in a direction where to find this information? Thank you

James thank you for this video, well done, your videos rock! (great video work by the way) I am unlucky to own a 2006/2007 Thor Mandalay that has 4 slides + leveling jacks + generator all HWH. Timing is everything I have a bedroom slide that wont retract, and yup a HWH cylinder is leaking badly. As I have 3 mores slides, generator ram and jacks (hopefully not welded) to be repaired next. I will call contact Martin Fluid Seals to find the ones I require. Question, I cannot find any info on the HWH website about seal sizes for a given HWH cylinder part number, how did you get the right sized seals from Martin Fluid? Your ability to work with one hand while videoing with your free hand is a gift, thank you.

What are your thoughts on running a bottle of Lucas rack and pinion or Lucas transmission fix in the hydrolic system? It would help rejuvenate all the seals etc?
@AZExpert5 ай бұрын
I have little faith in any oil additives, they can claim anything in a lab and then claim ignorance after it was outside a lab.

@@AZExpert I was asking because my f350 steering box leaked really bad. I put in fresh ATF with Lucas rack and pion and she hasn't leaked in 15 years. It's not quite a hydrolic system but close. Thanks for the response.

James, You are a hero again! Question, is the baby powder something that should be done?
@AZExpert8 ай бұрын
There are 3 different types of rubber seals and I do not trust or like conditioner, I wanted to ensure the slide didn't rip the sidewall completely and the powder is what the factories use when they are made and it lubricates the seal too without leaving an oily mess.
