Ty so much for this video I got tired of waiting for my plumber friend to do it for me, I yanked out the the wrench and the screwdrivers and installed the diverter on my own. I had the basic idea of how to do it. This video helped clear up some questions I had. Like don’t overtighten! As a complete newbie with a complete fear of home repairs if I can offer any advice when putting the diverter in go slow hand tighten gently it wants to go in back out if it gets to tight in the beginning and go forward again. You don’t want to cross thread it. Makes you feel great once you do something like this.

I assume this also works the same way when you want water to come out of the shower but it’s also coming out of the facet, correct? Hey Michael, love your videos that make all of this look so simple; and it has been for the most part. My issue is that my diverter is a Sayco knob that turns to the left to divert the water to the shower, but I'm having an awful time pulling out the stem once I get it loosened. It looks to be totally unscrewed, but it just wiggles around back and forth. I don't want to yank on it to hard for fear of possibly breaking something off on the inside or damaging the area that the seat goes into. Any suggestions?

Paul Plemmons Thanks for watching Paul. What’s your update? The Sayco is very similar to the one shown in this video. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hey Michael, thanks for asking...my update is that my hot and cold stem replacements are working very well, but I did not want to damage anything with the turn-knob diverter that was in place, at the STRONG urging from my wife, so I screwed the diverter stem back in place and just left it for the time-being. The faucet doesn't leak now when the water turned off, but when using the shower diverter, a pretty strong stream of water still comes out of the spout with the shower running; which is not unexpected since I didn't fix it. I saw on message boards that I'm not alone with this Sayco shower diverter problem, but I'm not seeing anywhere on KZbin about an effective way to get that diverter out that just wiggles around when unscrewed, and it would help immensely if somebody knew of a way since I can understand a lot better with seeing how something is done rather than 15 steps of doing something that is typed on somebody's website, which I saw somewhere yesterday. ;o)

You need an exact brand. You may need to go to a plumbing parts store with the diverter stem. Names upon diverter stems aren't necessarily on the stem. You may not even need a new stem. The need may be a worn out stem seal washer. The video refers to a worn washer (rubber) which has a screw in the middle. Hence, that washer replacement would be the lowest cost fix if your lucky. Next would be a stem replacement. $10.00-$30.00. Good luck.

My handle set is just a little bit different. Mine turns to get the water to go from tub spout to showerhead and back. The idiot that originally put these on connected them directly to the tubes coming from the wall so it going to be a little different for me but I need to fix this because the water is coming mostly from the tub and very little from the showerhead and we lose more hot water than we use for the shower itself. Most of it comes out the spout in the tube so if your not quick you end up with a cold shower which is bad for me because I have long hair and it takes about 10-15 mins to wash and condition my hair alone plus the time to shower itself!! You don’t have to turn off, if the hot and cold knobs are off, no water goes to the diverter. Helpful video though. I watched and changed mine, took ten minutes, only because I have never done it before.

I would "assume" so. I bought them (hot, cold and diverter) brand new and put them in. They replaced they original ones from 1977. (Central)

@@thechardestyiv There’s gotta something blocking it. We recommend unscrewing shower head & verifying nothing is blocking water flow.

if the washer/gasket from the old diverter is stuck in the pipe, how would i get it out
@DIYwithMichaelBorders

DaEverything1 Thanks for watching. You may need to use a pic tool. It’s extremely important to not harm/damage the internal seat when using tools to remove gasket. Keep us posted. 😎👍🔧🔩

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders i replaced the shower diverter but when I turn it to divert the water, there is still water coming from the bottom tap. is it the seat I have to replace now?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders
@DIYwithMichaelBorders 4 жыл бұрын
@@DaEverything1 Thanks for the update & if your specific diverter does not have a built in seal/gasket already engineered into & connected to diverter, you will need to replace inner seal/gasket inside valve. If that doesn’t fix issue, water is leaking past you hot or cold stem seals/seat. Keep us posted. 😎👍🔧🔩

@DIYwithMichaelBorders

@@DaEverything1 Thanks for the reply. You may see a black seal on upper portion of diverter. In addition, you may see a white gasket on lower portion of valve...that’s if it’s the model we are thinking of. Hope this helps.

That white stuff on the old cover was plumbers putty it should have been cleaned from tile and the new cover should have been packed to prevent leaks No caulk needed. Also you can just replace rubber o ring and make it a 50 cent job. Great video otherwise

come on bro. . .this is some absolutel bullshit. u know no diverter is giong to be easily removed by the hand like that. . .what u show here probably accounts for 1% of diverters in homes, if that.

Thanks for watching & we appreciate you reaching out to us. We have replaced a number of diverters & have come across a few that were stubborn for sure. Calcium, corrosion, & rust can definitely play a huge role when removing diverters & this diverter was pretty clean...just completely worn out & needing to be replaced. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, hope all is well with you and your family. 😎👍🔧🔩

I came here to see how to remove the cold and hot handle because I cant seem to figure out how those come off after removing the screws and this bathtub 3 way faucet looks very similar to what I have. 👎.. did not see it done in this video... If only I could have my 7 min back.

That’s correct there, as the title states “Faucet Diverter”…not sure why you mentioned what you did … since the title didn’t mention anything about the HOT/COLD stem … however … hey we got you covered … even though you came at us the way you did. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders I finally got them off... All 3 were REALLY REALLY stuck on there so much so, I thought maybe it was all 1 piece, so I searched "how to disassemble 3 way tub faucet" just be sure first and this was the video I found. It required a lot of WD-40, a hammer to tap the sides, a crowbar, and a lot of patients as not to break any tiles around it or the faucet itself. I watched your other video too. Sorry for the negative comment, I gave your video here and the one you linked a like to compensate for the negativity on your video here.
