Much credit to NorthWestRepair. This is the difference between a passion work and a business work. This man spends a lot of time fixing a single gpu. While the other guy likes to spend no more than 15 mins and yet charges the owner of the repair attempt without even knowing what is wrong with it. Repair attempt is fine when the item is really unrepairable and given that you know the reason behind it. Imagine Customer: "what is wrong with it?" "I dont know but I will charge you for a repair attempt" Geez...

I don't get tired of watching you work. My mind is old and a bit unreliable, but I do recognize virtuosity when I see it. Please continue to teach and remember it may well only last for a little while, but it's a darn site better than no GPU while it lasts.

It is not just about the equipment, though. Although certainly important, even the best and fanciest, most expensive equipment can't compensate for the lack of motor skills necessary for precise movements operating under the microscope. I don't know what you did in your life that led you to acquiring the fine-tuning, precision movement motor skills, but you clearly have them better than average. I'm sure some degree of skills can be learned through training, but your case involves innate talent just as much as skills, and I think the amazement we all get seeing your skills, knowledge and talent in action is a huge part of your success and why many of us consider you the GOAT in the repair landscape. Cheers to you, Tony!

Brother did you see how SMALL the PCB is on the 5090, 80, and 70's?!?!? Dude it's WILD. I know this sounds a little crazy, but I honestly feel like some of that has to do with the fact that they don't like channels like yours getting into and knowing so much about their GPUS. I swear to god, they WORKED to make them smaller, more dense, and harder to fix. I mean isn't the PCB DOUBLE SIDED now?! What kind of nightmare shit is that? I feel like, at least in part, it was done to make it more difficult to make schematics, repair, and diagnose- basically everything you do. There is no way they want people having access to so much information about their units, especially since you have such a negative opinion of every single make/model!! LOL. Good luck man, I hope it doesn't prevent you from doing your work!!

Quick question: If the pads aren't glued or otherwise affixed to the board, are they at a higher risk of "breaking off" if the board is subjected to a sufficient shear force that caused the ripped pads in the first place? Also, do you have problems with the repaired pads shifting or floating when you reball the core/chip?
@Maco_im_Sacko15 сағат бұрын
Dumb question but how is the connection made? Do you literally solder the pad? Onto what?
@danehutchins384515 сағат бұрын
On to the trace right below it. These had the solder mask removed before video started. The ones that appear shiny.
@The_Man_In_Red13 сағат бұрын
@@danehutchins3845 Yup, that's the "tails" OP... and why you see him add UV mask over the top, then the connection is isolated only to the pad itself.
@kiwichess11 сағат бұрын
@northwestrepair Tony, why wouldn't you cover the pads in with mask and glue to the board? Then you can lightly dremel the top to put the gpu on? The pads will be much more solid and won't rip off if another reballing is needed?
@northwestrepairСағат бұрын
pads tails were glued with the mask. You cannot glue pads to the board with solder mask, UV will not penetrate the pad. I tried. I saw krisfix do it but even with a powerful UV light and long exposure, it didnt help much. It just made it harder and longer and with much higher chance of error. I dont use dremel because it lacks control.

Alex will only fix board, GPU or whatever, if is a 10 minute component replacement. Otherwise it automatically declares it a no repair. And the few times that I have seen him fix a board with ripped/missing pads. I does the repair only using wire as the pad replacement. As for Alex, he is not the soldering king. Too many times have I seen him solder a component to the board and the soldering was done with a "Cold Solder" quality and many other problems. I have stated this before. His soldering would not be excepted by any company that builds PCBAs.
