Hey Ironclad, been watching your vids since Christmas when i got a Spartan boat. Love your vids, learned a lot. First time subscribing to a utube channel. I am 72 yrs old and feel like a kid again running and maintaining my boat. Keep the vids coming. You are doing a great job.

Thanks mate, I'd better check out the wife's blackjack 42. We haven't run it yet ,lucky you showed us this. The geiko 36 had a problem to , melted the liner on the left side . Changed this and no problems, maybe the motor was off center . You probably just saved us a lot of headaches . Thanks mate.

I think that you missed that you need a 1-2 mm gap between the dog nut and the bushing to account for shrinkage of the flex shaft under load. If the nut starts pressing against the bushing, you are going to get heat and no apparent wear. Of course without the nut and prop installed, there is no pressure and no heat to be detected.

Look at us, Super Bowl is on and were talking RC Boats! At least we have our priorities in order. I saw your video on the speed master. That's probably where I'll go as watching your vids you obviously got fed up and upgraded. I'm going to try Horizon Hobby and see what they say but you and I both know that's a dead end. It's only the small group of Hobbyist communities that really make a difference. I'll try bending the tube and heating the bushing out and checking that. Oh by the way lots of respect to you for your goose video. If it wakes even one of us up it was worth it. Take Care. Thanks for responding!!!!

Bummer sorry to hear that, the Teflon liner spins and shifts in the stuffing tube until it gets binded up somewhere usually snaps the flex cable. I use adhesive on the Teflon liner to keep it in place in the stuffing tube

I can clearly see wear mark's on the bushing & fkexshaft . I believe the the bushing must b locked in with Loctite . I think that's why U hav a bad bushing & strut now . The other things definitely helped with alignment .
@IRONCLADRC3 жыл бұрын
Yep I locktited the bushing In.. trying different setups with different drivedogs.. bushing locked in place bushing moving freely. I like to Tinker & test, I've run the holy mess out of this boat. Lol. Guess it's gonna wear out sooner or later. Thanks for watching

The shaft is bent, isnt it going to rub at some point in that tube since the cable is flexible? I suppose doing the best to keep the friction in the submerged part of the shaft would be ideal for heat dissipation.
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
Yes but you need proper alignment to motor shaft
@79ltd2 жыл бұрын
I Hey Bro. Thank you for some great videos on this boat. I'm just starting to set up a brand new one. Alignment at the collet was off and had to raise it slightly using your method. When I tried to check for heat when running the strut immediately got hot, I mean really hot. It will burn your fingers if you held it. Pulled out the cable, lubricated the entire length and reassembled. Better but still getting hot. I guess the next step is taking out the bushing and see what's going on. Kind of Piss""'s me off that a brand new boat comes with these problems. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
@79ltd2 жыл бұрын
Sorry Bro, I should have watched all the video. Trying to shorten the cable to see if that helps next. I haven't pulled the bushing out yet as I understand it's glued into the strut to prevent spinning.
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын

How did you remove that bushing?
@IRONCLADRC3 жыл бұрын
A little heat at the back of strut and pull shaft & bushing out
@FLSharkdiver3 жыл бұрын
@@IRONCLADRC I will try using a heat gun to warm it up and then you said just give it a good pull, correct after I LOOSEN up the two bolts that hold the strut in place? How many runs do you do before you grease the bushing?
@79ltd2 жыл бұрын
Well this is a mind bender. Shaft spins freely in the tube and strut. Shortened the shaft, pushed the shaft all the way in as far as it would go. Lubricated Everything. Temps climbed to 130 degrees on the strut within one minute, even at low speeds. You cant hold it. It's not warm, it's burning hot. Temps are high enough I think it will melt the plastic hull. Strut is flat, bolts in the strut but not tightened. What temps were you reading when you tested? Hate to send this back. Strut polished and sharpened to a mirror finish. I'm not a rookie either. I have a Volantex Atomic posted on KZbin at 62.3 MPH with stock electronics kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2mon4Nqg9Cdhbs. Maybe it will run cooler in the water with the prop pushing forward but something isn't right. I guess the next move is to remove the bushing and see what's rubbing.
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
Mine got warm but never that hot. I definitely agree that the water should keep everything cool. I've upgraded my strut with speed master, even upgraded the strut gets warm bench testing. This is a 1/4" cable and shaft so there's gonna ve more friction, (oh yea I just remembered I took some of the bend out of the stuffing tube for a better angle of attack not much maybe 1-2 degrees, that could help?)
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
If you take a little of the angle out otlf the stuffing tube it should kinda keep the bow from raising as much a little down angle on a catamaran should do it some good. Good luck

If it were Lined up Perfectly, you would not be seeing the Motor moving at 8:04 - 8:10.

You heated that bushing and took it out in another video. Should have not done that. That bushing is set in there at the factory. So in order to grease inside that bushing you take the prop of and the drive dog not to mention disconnect the strut and take it out 1st. I have the same boat and horizon hobby had a video on this for greasing.
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
I got ride of that pos strut lol. It Was a pain In the but grease never stayed in the stuffing tube... The Strut I run now I could literally go out 6 or 7 outing and never grease the cable grease stays in the drive line like it supposed to.
@topgun53992 жыл бұрын
@@IRONCLADRC ya that design can be a pain to grease. But I don't mine matenance. What strut did you get for it to replace or you just ordered a new one from proboat?

With respect..If I payed my hard earned money on a “hobby “ Grade RC boat like this one .. I’d be really pissed that the drive line on this model is so poorly engineered that you have put time and money into a problem that the suits at Pro Boat should have addressed in the first place.....
