Funny thing...Several years ago, I went to the Pinball Shoppe in North Olmsted and talked with the owner. I asked if he was interested in buying any spare parts, manuals, and/or games. When I told him I have a Sea Wolf, he said, "Where were you 6 months ago?" I'll never know for sure, but he might have been referencing yours - not too common of a game and I was probably there around 5-6 years ago.

Love these repair videos. Old computers/games are like old cars. Tons of charm and easy'ish to diagnose/fix; unlike most of their modern counterparts. Or perhaps I'm just getting old :)

We're allllll getting old, lol. Somewhere, there's probably somebody complaining about how nothing beats a good horsedrawn buggy :)

Get in touch with Steph at www.HobbyRoms.com he can burn any rom for you. Just tell him you want a Sea Wolf test rom, I think they're $15 or $20.

I love these vids! I’ve learned some super valuable info and experience just from watching and learning. Thank you My only nitpick is that you don’t say “we’ll be right back” when you know you have to move camera and edit later. It creates a sort of distance between you and the viewer when you could draw them in more and say “OK, let’s go check out the back now” and obviously still edit etc. Thanks again!

Hey joe, love your videos. I have a gun fight that is similar setup to this. I have garbled screen, no letters, and all my voltages are 5.6, -5.6, 15.6 cranked all the way down. Mine does a gunshot when powered off. Any suggestions?
@LyonsArcade4 жыл бұрын
The voltages are a little bit high but they'd probably be o.k., are you getting those voltages at the power supply, or measured actually on the game board? The gunshot is just because the sound board isn't running and properly turning things on and off, if it makes that sound like that it's just the power draining out of the circuit.... I don't know how much equipment you have, but the first thing I'd do is remove and reinsert the little 2 legged grey crystal on the corner of the main board (it's in a socket)... Then retry the game, it might be that the program isn't even trying to run because there's no clock signal. If that doesn't do it, it may be a rom problem, you could clean and reinsert the roms, if that doesn't get you going in the manual it describes how you can test the ram by removing the roms (the CPU alone will make a pattern on the screen).... or if you buy the test rom from www.HobbyRoms.com or download and burn your own, it could test all your ram for you.

Joe's Classic Video Games I read those readings at the harness that plugs onto the daughter board. I did try to get some readings at the daughter board. I was just randomly checking legs for +5. I wasnt that confident in my readings bc I wasn’t checking from a schematic. The readings I was getting all seemed low(2-3v). But, for all I new at the moment those could be appropriated. I did re-seat all socket chips on the daughter and mother board and checked for continuity from the copper fingers to the test points or first stops on daughter and mother. I hope that makes sense. I will check that crystal. For what it’s worth, the screen garble does kinda change like the board is booting and running thru the attract mode. However, I have no real indication that the game is coining when tripped or playing blind. I really appreciate the help thus far. My grandpa was an operator in the late 70’s to mid 90’s. I’ve got a lot of water damage victims and some hidden gems like a dig-dug painted grey and turned into a ikari warriors lol. But I do have some cool stuff like this one, subroc 3D, omega race cockpit and spy hunter cockpit. I started the adventure of arcade restoration about 2 years ago and your videos have been great for learners!

Joe's Classic Video Games well, gunfight lives!! Wont coin up tho. The screen flashes when tripped and when start is pressed. But, it just goes back to attract mode with “insert coin” at top. 🤔

look up crt solutions they have cheep tubes kinda sucks about the burn in but like you said common
@LyonsArcade7 жыл бұрын
the whole issue is though.... it's an inherent flaw in the design, so if I replace the tube i'll just end up burning the new tube too. It's pointless to fix something that a. was on all the games originally, and b. will just happen again.... and it's a 23" black and white tube, not the easiest thing to find.

I understand and respect that you keep your games original. But don’t you think for reliability and safety it would be good to to always install a new modern power supply and cord? Do purest and collectors really care about an original power supply and cord?? I purchased an original Galaga and that was the first thing I replaced.
@LawmanArcade767 жыл бұрын
@Lancair W That depends on the collector in my opinion. Some of them insist that EVERYTHING is original, but I can understand your point, Lancair W. If you have it at home, it should work without problems. @Joe Thats the point, you have to change parts to fix the games - otherwise you can only dump the games or part them out. You are doing a great job and I appreciate your videos!

With the exception of Sega's G80 power supply, and probably a few other oddballs, the factory linear power supplies are typically very solid and should be rebuilt. Being that they're still running with little-no problems after 30+ years, it shows how over engineered they were BITD. The switching power supplies are good, but tend to burn themselves out after 4-5 years (sometimes less).
