I played this with my dad for hours at an arcade in Chicago in 1977. Seeing this restored beauty brings back very fond memories, especially the amazement at the time of all the new gaming technology that was suddenly appearing. Previously pinball machines were the best that you could do in arcades, and games like Sea Wolf blew all that old sh*t away!

@@salvagemonster3612 Bullshit. Seawolf was released in 1976 ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Wolf_(video_game) ), and I played this game several times at various arcades in the early 1980s. Calling people a “liar” when they aren’t makes *you* the liar...and makes you sound like an a🤫hole, so...don’t.

Thanks for bringing back some memories. From '72 to '82 our large department store had a little side wall knockout that had a little arcade. Spent an unbelievable amount of paper route money on those machines. Got to know the repair dude really well... learned his schedule. Watched him maintain/repair the machines every two weeks. The insides looked just like a Radio Shack electronics sales wall. As he closed each machine, he would tap the circuitry and leave a few credits on each machine he opened. He was a smart man... than only enticed us to spend a few more quarters. Thanks for the video!

I used to hang out at a bowling alley and they had this game along with Atari Football (with the Xs and Os), and a driving game (Super Bug I think it was called), eventually breakout then space invaders and Asteroids replaced those machines, but I remember sea wolf well. The periscope was built like a tank, and that "fast boat" is a PT boat. Cool game, and now that I'm all grown up and have studied how all this stuff works (which I remember wondering back in the day), it's cool to get a peek inside a sea wolf and see how basic the machines were back then. That sound board is so cool... talk about basic ! And you're correct, it's called discrete electronics where it's all individual (discrete) parts rather than CPUs, RAM and ROMs.

I recall playing an early generation of this game at Dreamland in Margate (Kent, UK) in the 1960s. There was no monitor. The ships were real model ships carried on a belt from left to right and the sea was a translucent material painted blue with white waves. Lined up with the periscope, you could just see a long boom with a row of maybe 20 light bulbs, and when you moved the scope, the boom moved with it. Launching a torpedo caused each bulb to light up and go out in turn. Of course all you saw through the periscope was a moving track of light under the sea heading towards the false "horizon". If the last bulb lighting up coincided with a model ship, then you sunk that ship. It obviously had an effect on me, because I can still remember so much detail after 50 years.

Hey, I was 11 days old when Mr./Ms. 836 inspected that sound board! The fact that the sounds could be subtly different on each cab is fascinating. Ten years later, you'd just throw a Yamaha chip or something in there and call it a day, so this solution has a neat DIY sort of feel to it. Back when the game designers were also the hardware engineers!
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's pretty wild. I should have specified in the video that they didn't purposefully make them all different, it's just if you have a 1k resistor, it may actually be 900ohms or 1.1kohms, they were never made to exact tolerances. pretty wild, the E.M. Pinball designers did similar things that were just amazing engineering...

That line on the cap marks which end is connected to the outside foil. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't. You generally want to have the black line side connected to whichever side of the circuit is closer to ground. It reduces noise in the circuit. Mr. Carlson's Lab has some good videos about this.

Mechanic's waterless hand cleaner, made by GOOP is a white, jelly/cream lanolin cleaner. Gently apply & wipe off with microfiber cloth. Used gently, it "floats" out contaminants, without damaging silk screened artwork. It's also excellent when added to laundry. It removes tobacco, ink, grease, and fresh overspray. Great on plexi and regular glass. Moisturizes dried plastics & vinyl.

We had a bunch of NEO-GEO arcades and some other one. In the 80's we had some better ones at the pizza place we went to, but later they replaced those cool ones like golden axe with cheap ones. Sad. I would have played this to death! Still would if I could afford one. I have this game on cartridge for Commodore 64. Ironically, I think it is the only game that uses paddles. I remember playing one of these while on vacation with my parents in Galveston, Texas in the summer of 1976 I think at the now long gone Sea Aroma marine park (sort of like Seaworld), they also had a table top style pong game and a few others.

It's like a whole world that doesn't exist anymore, I saw pictures of a Holiday Inn back then that had an indoor pool with arcade games at the pool, I remember seeing a little bit of that kind of stuff in the 80's but times have changed, oh well we all kept the memories! Thanks for watching Ike!

Having red, black and green on some level in the color scheme of the cabinet and lettering stands out. It would be great if Inspector Mr. or Miss/Mrs. 836 and or 821 actually have seen this video. But even better if they left a comment below under a youtube moniker.

OMG I've been loving watching these vids, takes me back to soooooo many great times in my youth at the arcades !! But was there another game like this that had a periscope on it.. I remember playing one say 1985-1990 but from the screen shots - I'm sure it was a bit different to this.. Anyway amazing vid, as all of them are ! Loving my BINGE.. this is 3rd straight day of 6 vids a day !! Should be caught up in a few years !! ;)

The end of the cap with the ring is *supposed* to be the end with the lead connected to the outer wrap of foil, and thus shielding the rest of the cap. (Shielded lead should go to ground, or at least signal ground.) However they are frequently mislabeled so if you need the shielding, better test it. (Hook it across the input to an audio amp and bring your finger near it; if it buzzes the audio, reverse it and try again.)

A little late to the party,,but still drop in from time to time. Sea Wolf. Wow!. Jammed all my summer money into that one at the Bowl alley. Very nice work by the way. Soundboard needed your refresh. It was sounding pretty tired. Crisp now. Now I know where "the door is ajar/seatbelt is off" sound came from. Everything is sooo analog-ish. It's a good thing someone like you still does this. Please don't stop. You mark it on the Insp plate and re-date it??. You should. Leave some swag behind inside. Tag that sucker!. We moved into this house in 76. The Bicentennial. Jeezus!.
