My Samsung RF4287HARS/XAA fridge first stopped making ice, then the fridge started getting warm and the freezer would not freeze. My Samsung fridge was having all the symptoms you described in this video and the compressor would overheat and the condensor fan wouldn't run. So I found out what fan motor it needed and I ordered it in Amazon to replace it just like you showed in this video. It should arrive tomorrow and I hope it fixes the problems we've been having after I install it. Thanks for posting this KZbin video, it is very helpful and it should save us lots of money in expensive shop repairs.

Cleaned the coils, and then i put a fan behind the fridge like you said, and Presto.... IT works again.!!! thanks.

It's amazing what you'll find behind the lower grille. Slow accumulation of hair, lint, and debris sucked in through the lower grille while your condenser fan is running to pull the heat away from the condenser coils and expel that to keep them cool, and keep your compressor cool at the same time. We also have a short coil cleaning video in our library. A big fan can supplement in a pinch, if you just need further time to troubleshoot. Glad your repair was successful one and we were able to help.

Thanks for the video ! I have the same fridge like yours but my issue is noise coming from the bottom back of the unit. Is it the fan or the condenser fan motor ? Thanks for the help.
@SupplyingDemand3 жыл бұрын
Noise coming from the bottom back of the refrigerator is either the condenser fan motor, compressor, or maybe the water valve. Intermittent buzzing is often the water valve or the compressor start relay. There is a fan, which is the condenser fan motor, that runs to cool the compressor when it is running. That is often the most likely culprit of noises. Best practice would be to pull out the refrigerator and listen. That's honestly what techs do. They search and find and listen and wait...until they pinpoint the noise. Then it's just a matter of a bit more research to find the compatible part and how to properly replace it. Good luck with your repair!

I have a Samsung French Door Style Refrigerator (RF265AWBP), Which Condensor Fan Motor Assembly do I need to Buy??
@3krickett8 ай бұрын
So French Door Samsung started "chirping" from the back last summer. I took the entire fridge apart learning what everything is. Condensor fan was doing quarter turns and squeaking. I cleaned it dragging the air hose inside and lubbed it. It was fine 4 months. Started again. Did the same, fine again. Tonight chirp chirp but air and grease havent helped. Probably needs a condensor fan replacement? Hoping that since previous temp fixes helped it would mean it isnt control board?
@SupplyingDemand8 ай бұрын
Wow, it sounds like you've done quite a bit of detective work on your Samsung French Door refrigerator-impressive! You're right in suspecting the condenser fan might be the culprit here, especially since your cleaning and lubrication provided temporary fixes. The fact that these fixes helped for a while is a good indication that the issue is mechanical rather than with the control board. When a condenser fan starts making noise and operates intermittently even after cleaning and lubrication, it's often a sign of wear or damage to the motor bearings or the fan blades themselves. Replacing the condenser fan should resolve the issue, especially since the temporary fixes indicated it's not a problem with the refrigerator's control board. It's also worth noting that replacing the fan is a more definitive solution that can prevent further issues down the line, as a failing fan can lead to overheating and affect the refrigerator's efficiency. Before you proceed with the replacement, double-check the refrigerator model number to ensure you order the correct part. And, as always, safety first-make sure to disconnect the refrigerator from power before attempting any repairs. Great job troubleshooting so far, and best of luck with the repair! Let me know if you have any more questions or if there’s anything else I can help with.

Thank you for the video. I have a question regarding this fan motor, if the fan does not come on could that send a signal to the refrigerator to tell the compressor to stop running? ie a sensor or something? I have a Samsung model rf4287ha that will seem to function perfectly if i unplug and plug back in, other than this fan will not power at all, then the compressor will run for maybe an hour then it will shut off as well. The condensor fan never comes on whatsoever at all. I tried the fan supplement trick as well and it kept the compressor from feeling hot and at a nice warm feel. I do appreciate any feedback
@SupplyingDemand3 жыл бұрын
No, this fan motor does not have an internal sensor. It runs when the control board tells it to run. The compressor is shutting off early because it gets too hot. The purpose of the fan is to cool the compressor. If you use a box fan as a supplement and your compressor runs longer or your refrigerator cools better, you know the issue is with the condenser motor. Now, if the previous motor wouldn't run and now the new motor wont run, it may not have been the old motor. It may have been the control board or relay that sends power to the condenser fan motor to turn it on. The fan motor waits on the defrost timer, defrost thermostat, control board, or relay to activate it. If the compressor comes on and is running, the condenser fan motor should be getting power and come on as well. But, you would have to check. We can't assume it's getting power. If the fan motor is getting power when the compressor is running, it should be running. If it is not getting power, that would explain why it's not coming on. You would then need to trace the wiring to the next component that feeds the motor, which likely would be the main control board. There may be a relay on that main control that acts like the switch to turn the fan motor on and off. A schematic would likely tell you where to look on the main board. If the relay on the control board is faulty, you'd need to replace the main board. If you do not know how to trace power or safely test for power, I would recommend contacting a local service professional to assist you in your diagnosis.

What is the best way to clean the coils?
@SupplyingDemand5 ай бұрын
Hi Stephen! Cleaning the coils is a crucial maintenance task that can help improve efficiency and extend the lifespan of your refrigerator. Here’s the best way to clean them: Unplug the Refrigerator. Always start by unplugging your refrigerator to ensure safety while working. The coils are usually located either at the back of the refrigerator or at the bottom. Refer to your refrigerator’s manual if you’re unsure where they are. If the coils are at the back, you might need to remove a protective cover. You may need to remove the lower front grille on the refrigerator to clean the intake. You may also need to access the rear of the refrigerator to complete the cleaning. Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove dust, dirt, and debris from the coils. Be gentle to avoid damaging the coils. For more thorough cleaning, use a coil cleaning brush (available at most hardware stores). Gently brush the coils to dislodge any stubborn dirt. The brush is flexible and can reach around the coils to clean hard-to-reach spots. If you removed any covers, replace them securely. Then, plug the refrigerator back in. Aim to clean the coils at least twice a year, or more frequently if you have pets or a dusty environment. If the coils are extremely dirty or hard to access, consider hiring a professional technician to ensure a thorough and safe cleaning. Keeping your condenser coils clean helps your refrigerator run more efficiently and can prevent potential issues down the line. I hope this helps!

We would need your model number to check part compatibility and see what it could be. If the previous fan failed, and the replacement doesn't work, it could mean there is still an underlying issue affecting the motor or refrigerator. Also, remember the fan doesn't run non-stop. The fan will cycle on and off during the normal defrost and cooling refrigerator cycles. Some cycles can last 4-6 hours. Could be a defrost thermostat, main board, defrost timer, thermistor, or other sensor. When all else fails, I like to start at the beginning and unplug the refrigerator for at least 30 seconds, but up to a few minutes, and let the boards reset. When you plug it back in, the main should reset and sync back up. Defrost issues can be frustrating because of the number of parts that work together to complete the defrost process.

@@SupplyingDemand I really appreciate your answer! Already put in the effort and popped out that it was the mainboard which simply didnt sent a signal to the fan.

I have one that the fan that circulates the air going to the top part of the frig keeps icing up. Would that be the same problem with that condenser fan?
@SupplyingDemand2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, sorry for the delayed response. If the fan that circulates the air going to the top part of the fridge keeps icing up...specifically frosting up...that may be an open door. Even the smallest of breaks in the seal when the door is closed will allow warm air to seep into the freezer and mix with the ice cold air...mixing and creating frost. The fan is doing its job and circulating this air, however that mix of warm air starts to create frost and it will literally begin to snowball. Then, after the next defrost cycle, that frost kind of melts but doesn't go away. Then, after the freezer kicks on and starts to freeze again, that kind of defrosted frost begins to turn into ice. And the cycle repeats. This could be caused by an open door, but it may also be a faulty defrost thermostat or control. Ensure your doors are closing and there's a solid seal. A bag of frozen food, or even some built-up frost can prevent the door from closing and the issue will repeat. In one case, it was the child lock strap getting caught in the door as the freezer closed. But after it was determined the strap was causing the door to stay open, the issue persisted. We dug deeper and found the defrost thermostat had worked itself to death trying to regulate the temperature when the door was stuck open. If you're able to access the coils and locate the defrost thermostat, it should be flat and flush on top. If there is a bulge or pop on top of the thermostat, the defrost thermostat may be faulty and may not be regulating the temperature properly. Hope this helps.

@@SupplyingDemand I followed your video and replaced the motor and fan. I plugged the refrigerator back in and the fan did not turn on. Do I have to wait for the compressor to turn off and turn back on again? Will it reset itself?
@SupplyingDemand3 жыл бұрын
@@jamiedanreiter9778 That is correct, unless...there's something else (like Florian Eve's answer below) like a control board or other issue that's not allowing your refrigerator to cycle. If you plug it back in and nothing happens, wait several minutes. The refrigerator may take 5-10 minutes to begin cycling again. When the compressor kicks on and starts running, the fan should also likely start up around that same time. If the refrigerator was in a defrost cycle, it may continue defrosting until temperatures rise (which could take longer than 5-10 mins), and then the compressor will kick on and begin cooling again. When the compressor is running, the condenser fan motor should also start to begin cooling the compressor while it runs, while also pulling the heat away from the condenser coils. If you haven't already, go ahead and pull the front grille off your refrigerator and use a coil brush and vacuum cleaner to get that fur coat off your condenser coils. Check our other videos. We show how to easily do a refrigerator coil cleaning, which is nothing but knocking the dust bunnies off the condenser coils to ensure air flow can get to the coils to pull the heat away. The condenser motor serves several different purposes all at the same time. Circulate air to help evaporate condensate in the drip tray which has drained from your freezer's evaporator coils, to blow directly on and cool the compressor, to pull air in through the front grille and across the condenser coils and exhaust that air out and away from the refrigerator. Also check Florian Eve's answer below where they discovered the control board relay was not sending power to the fan, which is a possible underlying problem that may still exist if you changed the fan and it has not powered on.

Hello my refrigerator have an error 21 can u tell us what is that and how we can fix it please can u explain to us thank
@SupplyingDemand3 жыл бұрын
The E21 is usually due to a defrost failure where ice builds up and prevents the ice from spinning. First, you would need to understand what caused the buildup of frost. Maybe a door was left open, maybe the seals are allowing warm air into the freezer, or possible a defrost thermostat or heater failed. So, that is the first step. For a thorough repair, you would need to remove the inner panels to access the fans and defrost coils. Using a steam gun or gently using a hairdryer, you can manually defrost the coils. If you have checked everything out and it's all good, but your display still shows 21 E, press and hold the Lighting and Energy Saver for 6 seconds. This may clear the error. IF it appears again, the underlying issue may still exist and a deeper dive may be necessary to determine the issue and the correct repair.

Put in a evaporator fan and still not working
@SupplyingDemand8 ай бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that replacing the evaporator fan didn't solve the problem. It's always challenging when a repair doesn't work out as expected. Let’s explore some additional troubleshooting steps: Power Supply: First, confirm that the fan motor is indeed receiving power. A multimeter can be very handy for checking the voltage at the fan motor connector. Wiring Connections: Ensure all connections are secure and correctly made. Sometimes, a small misstep in reconnecting can prevent the fan from operating. Control Board: The refrigerator's control board is crucial as it sends power to the fan motor. If there’s an issue here, it might stop the fan from running. Fan Blade: Check that the fan blade is properly attached to the motor and that there’s nothing blocking it, like debris or ice. Thermostat and Sensors: Problems might also arise from thermostat or temperature sensors not triggering the fan due to incorrect readings. If you've gone through these steps and the issue persists, it might be beneficial to seek advice from a professional appliance repair technician. They can offer a more in-depth diagnosis and ensure everything gets back to working order safely and efficiently. Navigating these issues can be tricky, and it’s completely understandable to feel a bit stumped when an initial fix doesn’t pan out. If you have more questions or need advice as you continue to troubleshoot, don’t hesitate to reach out. Wishing you the best of luck in getting everything running smoothly again soon!

My condenser fan keeps running. Doesn't shut off. What wrong
@SupplyingDemand8 ай бұрын
It sounds like you're dealing with a persistent condenser fan that's refusing to take a break! There are a few reasons why this might be happening, ranging from normal operation to issues that need attention. Here’s what could be going on: 1.) Normal Operation in Some Models: First, it's worth noting that in some refrigerator models, especially modern ones, the condenser fan is designed to run almost continuously to ensure efficient cooling and energy use. This is particularly true if your kitchen is warm, if the fridge is full, or if the doors are opened frequently. 2.) Dirty Condenser Coils: If the coils are dirty, the refrigerator has to work harder to cool down, which can lead to the fan running more than usual. Cleaning the coils might help resolve the issue. 3.) Faulty Thermostat: If the thermostat isn’t accurately sensing the temperature, it might not signal the fan to turn off when it should. Testing the thermostat or having it checked by a professional can clarify if this is the problem. 4.) Stuck Relay or Faulty Control Board: The fan is controlled by electrical components that can become stuck in the 'on' position or malfunction. A stuck relay or a faulty control board could be continuously signaling the fan to run. These components typically require a professional to diagnose and replace. 5.) Door Seal Issues: If the door seals are not airtight, warm air can enter the refrigerator, causing the fan to run continuously to maintain the temperature. Check the seals for any signs of wear or gaps. To pinpoint the exact cause, you might start with the simpler checks like ensuring the condenser coils are clean and that the door seals are intact. If the issue persists, it may be time to consult with a professional appliance repair technician who can accurately diagnose and fix the problem. Continuously running fans can lead to increased energy consumption and potentially shorten the lifespan of the refrigerator if left unaddressed, so it's great that you're looking into this. Let me know if there's anything else you're curious about or if you need further assistance!

What happens if the fan you replace its not working
@SupplyingDemand3 жыл бұрын
The refrigerator may be in a defrost cycle or may be on a delay when initially plugged back in. The fan doesn't run constantly, and it may not run immediately upon startup. It will turn off during certain intervals in the refrigeration cycle. Also, if you just installed the fan and had the refrigerator unplugged, it may be on a delay to sync the cycles back up, return to temperature, and begin normal cycling again. I would also check for power and see if the fan is receiving power, as a control board relay that activates the fan when the compressor is running could be at fault. Check all your connections. Make sure they're tight. Recheck your work. Verify the compressor is running and the fan is receiving power. Ensure the fan blade spins freely and isn't restricted by the housing. If the fan is receiving 120v, it should turn on. The fan normally is running while the compressor is running to help keep it cool and circulate air to help evaporate the defrost in the drain pan.
