Thank you for the video. Someone decided to scratch my boat. I will be looking at the video a few more times before trying it on my boat.

First time I’ve seen clear coat used. I was at the same point as you, couldn’t sand or buff out a scratch. Trying clear coat next instead of mixing gel coat and colors trying to color match. This seems much easier.

Couple of questions based on my boat. I have a few scratches that look like what your refinished, and then some bumper rash from a faded bumper at tie up. Two separate areas. Bumper rash looks cloudy but not that bad. Love some advice. Can I DM some pics??

ok so I'm confused. My boat is Signal Gray and I have a dock scratch....the clear coat is...well clear. How does this product replace the color?

Do you think a clear coat “spray can”would work if I taped off surrounding area.. (much cheaper in a rattle can)

I don’t think so, it would be better to have a two-part polyurethane clearcoat that utilizes a harder to have the best chance of it staying in the scratch and being able to level it out if spray and stuff really isn’t good.

Where are you located ? I am in CT with an original survivor Spectra 22 1978 that was pretty much like new. Some idiot came off trailer launching and started reving inboard creating huge wake my boat got thrashed against dock. Deep scratches … several of them right next to each other in a70s flat orange. The rest of gel coat is like new. I’m sick ….

What brand of clear coat did you use to fill the scratches?
@MotorizedCo
@MotorizedCo 2 жыл бұрын
We used PPG EC800. We chose that specific clear because it is very fast drying, which is ideal for touch up on a vertical surface and a situation where you want it to cure quick so you can move on with sanding and polishing. Any fast drying 2k clear coat should do the trick!

@@MotorizedCo What if the scratch is deep enough where you can see the white underneath the gelcoat ?
@MotorizedCo

Good question! You have a couple of options. 1. you can get some touch up paint that is the color of the boat and do this same process first with the touch up paint and then follow up and do it again with the clear coat. Depending on the depth of the scratch this may still leave an indentation. 2. Unfortunately a gel coat repair mite be the only option for some scratches that are simply too deep.
