How to Replace 12 volt battery in Toyota Prius (2010-2015)

In this video we show how to replace a 12v battery on a toyota prius. If you get the low aux battery warning on your 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, or 2015 toyota prius you can get away with bypassing that prompt for a while but you will eventually need to replace the 12 volt battery on your toyota prius.

Oh my gosh, watched this video, and a couple others for comparison, and believe me...DO IT YOURSELF!!! Had to get it done today as this weekend in Denver doesn't get above 5degrees. It is SO easy. I decided to time it. 14 minutes from the time I stepped in the garage, got my 10mm socket wrench, moved our stuff and everything to get to the battery, switched it out and put everything back in it's place. I removed/replaced in this order, when I got to the battery. Removed hold-down strap, Neg cable, Pos cable, Vent tube, battery. Replaced battery, vent tube, Pos, Neg, Hold-down strap. EVERYthing completed in 14 minutes! Thanks thecollegepicker!!!!

Some videos show that they remove battery temperature sensor wiring but here as I see three was no need to touch it, very easy and saves lots of unnecessary movements, thanks a lot.

If there is no error code, could it be a winter problem? I sometimes get a start or have to troubleshoot a bit, eventually it starts no jump. Oddly enough it starts in EV mode every time. Why?

After changing the 12V battery, now the engine always works, it does not switch to the hybrid battery, what's wrong?

I do think you should mention that you may have to drive the Prius for around 25 miles to get the electronics to stabilize immediately after new battery installation.

I am not convinced that and AGM battery off gases the same way as a flooded lead acid battery. @@chilenitonuma

​@thecollegepicker hydrogen will be vented into the confined space in the trunk and any sparks from the charging process can ignite the gas. Like der Hindenburg. That's why there's a vent tube on the right batteries -- to vent the gas outside the car safely away from any ignition source.

Per the manufacturer - When used with a properly regulated constant voltage charging system (such as an alternator), the OPTIMA will not emit hydrogen gas.
