Jay ste's hint about getting the 2032 battery out is appreciated and the video was great (other than not actually removing the battery at the end). That battery removal and indeed the entire procedure for replacing a 2032 battery is a lot more complicated than any of the myriad of things I own that use these 2032 batteries. Why the engineers at Mazda didn't make the battery accessible after removing the first plastic door is mind boggling. On second thought ...

TY, I just had to replace both fob batteries for a 2020 CX 9. I have a 2013 Lexus and have not replaced the fob batteries. I wonder if the Mazda fobs are constantly sending out a signal. I normally use the buttons on the car for door openings so the fobs should have charged batteries.

Thank you Danny! N.B. my key fob for a 2020 CX-9 requires a Cr2032 battery. I assumed the batteries would be the same from 2020 to 2021. Not so! According to the manual Pg 6-34 there are 2 possible keys - Type A and Type B requiring different model # batteries. I simply ordered the battery I saw in the video #2025 - not the model that I removed from my fob - didn't notice the difference. Died a week later. Hopefully others will not share my fate. And thanks to Mazda for, yet again, making a seemingly simple thing complicated.

You cant just pop the battery out..at the end...the latch door thats on top of the battery..u pop it off..(from the sides)..its easier..then you use the top of that latch door..to pry the battery out..there is a slot in the bottom rt corner..where the battery sits...the north side of that latch door has a curved piece thats fits in that corner slot perfectly...that would be the final step..before replacing the battery..and putting the key fob back together.. (i did it all with the key and my fingers..no fingernails) ...thanks for the video 👍🏾

Amazing how nobody seems to realize that the back end of the emergency key is a tool to use instead of having a flathead screwdriver. You do not need any tools to change the battery in your keyfob, Mazda engineers thought of this when designing the key.
