Great video um I have power from the outlet so would I turn the braker off to take off the unit ?
@MikeKlimek10 ай бұрын
It's always safer to turn off the breaker, but in a pinch make sure the switch is off and test for power.

Seems easy… should I disconnect the power after testing the outlet?
@MikeKlimek2 жыл бұрын
If you are just replacing the motor, it just plugs into the outlet in the ceiling and you don't need to shut off the power. If you are changing the box in the ceiling, then yes shut off the power.

I have seen many videos on how to replace a bathroom fan but not one of the “Experts” said anything about any different noise levels between different models/brands Are they all the same? I recently shopped for a kitchen exhaust fan and there is so much info on noise ratings. I wish I could find a quieter one. I don’t mind paying a higher price. Where are all the experts?
@MikeKlimek Жыл бұрын
They are definitely not the same. Higher quality fans are generally quieter. Even big-box stores carry fans that have decibel ratings on the boxes.

Safety glasses highly recommended due to the particles that tend to fall from removing the vent cover and fan assembly.

Thanks for the great video but I can't seem to find the part anywhere, tried all the big box stores and a few others and no luck. The part is a BROAN 681-A/681F-A Thanks

That particular part may not be available anymore: www.amazon.com/Broan-CECOMINOD092654-Motor/dp/B00KFB9C9Y/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8. You might try looking at Grainger

Great video. Mine is about 20 years old and I don't have a screw to remove it. Any idea how to remove it?
@MikeKlimek Жыл бұрын
A couple of possibilities. It may be held by tension and you might be able to pry it out with a standard screwdriver. You may also have a fan where you have to replace the entire box, and not just the fan motor. Still not a difficult job...there will be screws around the perimeter holding the box in place.
@vk47422 жыл бұрын
Risked my security deposit since I’m renting and replaced my exhaust fan myself. Got a bigger one, old one had mold growing on it. Exhaust tube was FILLED with rocks which would explain why no air was being sucked out and mold would appear on the walls. Now the mirror doesn’t even fog up.

What model number is that?... it looks just like my fan, which is super old (Universal Electric Company) but the placement of the outlet hole looks just like mine, as well as the single screw and tabs. It seems like all the ones I keep seeing have the outlet hole in the corner not centrally located on the side.
@MikeKlimek2 жыл бұрын
Sorry but I can't get the model number anymore-but it was 25 years old or so...
@user-dr5yt4eq3p Жыл бұрын
My exact problem, too -- old fan has the outlet parallel to side, but new ones seem to have them at a 45 degree angle in the corner.

It's a brand new fan? If you plug it into a regular wall outlet does it spin?

how long cloud it take before you fixed it and cloud it take 30 minutes or something like that

So you removed the motor assembly from the new one correct? And just installed that portion of it ..
@MikeKlimek3 жыл бұрын
Yes that's correct. No need to replace the entire can as it was a straight swap-out.
@johannawatson94543 жыл бұрын
What is the model number of the replacement? I have similar looking one but I don't have a screw to remove, just clips. Fan stopped working and I know the electric is ok. Unfortunately I think mine old unit is approx 17 years old so I can't read the model number. Thank you.
@MikeKlimek3 жыл бұрын
I don't have access to the model number. However, take the old part with you to go look for a new part. Chances are good you will find one that just swaps out.
@johannawatson94543 жыл бұрын

@@johannawatson9454 Can you please share the compatible brand and model number you found, Johanna? Mine also looks like this with the plug parallel to the side, but the models I've looked at matching the number on mine all have the plug at a 45 degree angle in the corner.

The replacement I got have the mounting screw facing the opposite side. Is it safe to unscrew and screw the mounting screw correct side ???
@MikeKlimek3 жыл бұрын
Without seeing it, it's hard to say...but generally you won't have any obstructions in the way so you should be fine. The manufacturing process obviously changed from your old fan to the new one.

how do you remove its housing?

Around 2:34 of the video shows to disconnect electrical, then remove screws/fasteners holding the can in place, and remove vent from the end of the box and pull the box out

@@MikeKlimek mine was a really old one from 1987. I have a metal duct going to the roof. They had screwed the damper on to the metal pipe and put duct tape on it. Then they had nails holding the housing to the joists. I was hoping someone had a similar model. Thanks for responding.
