I used the Rutland (I think) furnace gasket on bottom only. It worked great for years. Base cracked at 18-19 years, so new base came with stock. Debating which way to go as it’s getting time to replace the gasket. The new hinge system seems to align dome to base easier and much safer to take apart. Old system requires special pieces to stop spring from being uncontrollable.

Hi Ron, thanks for another great video on a timely subject. I am planning for a clean burn and gasket replacement next spring. I think I will do two additional things. I will use a dremel-type tool instead of sandpaper and I will make a couple of small slits in the lower gasket near the hinge for the temperature probe wires so they are not sitting on top of the gasket. Thanks again and keep it up. :-)

Hi Ron, I have a medium size BGE that I will need to replace the gasket. My question is do I have to break in the new gasket by doing one to two cooks at 350 or less degrees F?
@FOGOcharcoal6 ай бұрын
The Big Green Egg gasket now does not require a break in period. It can't hurt but if you put a new gasket, put it on, leave the dome closed for 24 hours and cook away. Even though it is no longer required, I personally feel that the 350 or lower cook can't hurt but it's not as necessary as it was before.
