This is a great video for replacing Delta shower faucets. Thought it would be an easy job. First, a frozen Allen screw, two drill bits later got the handle off. Bonnet nut came off easy. The cartridge came out in pieces. Once I'd broken off all the edges trying to pull it out with channel locks, I looped a piece of wire around it and hammered the vise grips with the channel locks till it finally budged then I gave it a good tug and hit the other side of the shower when it finally came out. Twenty minute job took about 2 hours. Now off to buy a replacement handle. good luck.

Great video, my 13 year old faucet was a little hard to get out, when I pried out the cartridge the cartridge and the caviety it went into were coated with a heavy layer of limescale. Before I went to purchase a $62 dollar replacement I removed all the limescale from the caviety and the cartridge and reinstalled the old cartridge. It worked, no more leak.

There is one additional step I would recommend. Use waterproof grease on the bonnet nut threads before screwing it back in place. It'll save your life the next time you have to remove it. For those dealing with a bonnet that's practically welded in place. To get it off I used a hacksaw to cut a little screwdriver (flat-head) sized notch into the edge of the bonnet (at around the 10:00 area). Set the screwdriver head into the notch at a slight angle and tap the screwdriver with a hammer (tap it carefully, you don't want to damage the pipe!!). I got it to turn a 1/3 of a turn before the notch was too far down. then I did the same thing a few more times until I had notches all the way around. The nut was so awful it never became wrench or hand crankable. I had to slowly hammer-tap the thing all the way off. When I put it back together I used grease, and the next time I had to take it off it was a piece of cake.

Mine was 19 yrs old, took lots pulling & wiggling. If calcium on parts soak in CLR. Also handle screw was really hard to move. Sprayed it with penetrating oil, left for while but still had to use pliers on my allen screw to get it to move. At the end I removed screw and covered it & chamber with penetration oil. Big difference putting handle back on!

The best $45 I've spent ($33.25 for the cartridge, $9.50 for a Kobalt strap wrench). The old cartridge was a bit stubborn but i was able to wiggle it out. Only thing worth mentioning is that you may have to make adjustments for water temp - the 13/14 series cartridge may need a small adjustment to allow the turning of the handle for more hot water. The default stop position only let the water get luke warm.

Wanted to add my experience because I found the comments on these videos very helpful-- Finishing screw was crusted with calcification but fortunately not stripped so came off with a little hammering on the hex Handle was difficult to remove; turned handle all the way on and soaked with vinegar; alternated tapping the sides lightly with hammer while wiggling front and back to remove. There was a lot of build up where water got past finishing screw (as many have said, stupid design) Bonnet nut came off with hand strength but holy cow the cartridge was stupid difficult to remove. 1. Tried turning water back on for 20 seconds 2. Destroyed half of cartridge with screwdriver, drill and pliers 3. Turned water back on for 20 seconds (at least to clear debris) 4. Some rotational movement on pieces using pliers and repeated WD-40 to the back of cartridge did the trick for removing the rest of it Might've been able to skip the destruction part, but maybe not because it was helpful for giving access for the WD-40. Will be reinstalling with liberal plumbers grease to cartridge, bonnet nut and over finishing screw so (hopefully) in 5 years I'll only need to replace the seats and springs and be able to do so easily. Good luck to all!

couple things I would add... your video makes it look quick and easy... in reality it is not. Probably need a good spray of penetrating oil as in real life the parts will have "welded" themselves on over time. I snapped and broke a strap wrench trying to loosen the nut. Ended up needing a huge wrench to get it off. The cartridge itself would not come out. Piece by piece it broke off. I was starting to be afraid that I had the wrong part or something. I eventually got all of it out and swapped out, but it took a ton of strength and force and broken tools and a couple minor injuries due to wrenches slipping and so forth

Beware the Delta handle set screw corroding , I have finally fixed my leak after hacksawing both the handle off and splitting the copper bonnet at top to get the completly corroded thing off, used the new blue bottom Delta cartridge and ordered the new handle and bonnet (no one stocks those anymore which is ridiculous if they sell the cartridge), lots of work after the set screw disinigates so much you cant back it out. Tried days of drilling it out to no avail and then turned to hacksaw, knowing I was completely destroying the cartridge and handle. So just realize you may be able to get the set screw out as I did years prior (replace spring/seal cheap) , but at some point the whole thing will corrode and you will have to do what I did. I recommend when new/replace put some watertight plug over the set screw hole and only hand tighten the bonnet with liberal plumbers grease (like an oil fiter). It was worth the hassle not to hire a plumber who wasted my time never giving me a quote . Ridiculous and glad I was able to overcome the corrosion myself and not pay a plumber who fails to follow through. Right now I am using the old split bonnet to hold the new cartridge in and have water back .... stopped the leak. Now wating for the two parts I destroyed fixing a Delta shower

Hahahaha! Yeah it's easy with a brand new never used shower like he had! After 25 years of corrosion and the bonnet nut seizing up be ready to have to carefully cut the bonnet nut off with a hacksaw blade or dremmel and HOPE the cartridge just pulls out. I got a replacement bonnet nut on Amazon for about $7 and ordered 2 cause I have another shower with the same fixture. Only a matter of time till it goes. If you try to force that stuck bonnet nut off you will surely mess up your entire fixture and plumbing. My cartridge was stuck and came out in pieces! Make sure to use silicone lube when you replace the bonnet nut. A little on the sides of the cartridge that touches the housing would not hurt either. And silicone lube on the O rings too. You will surely remember if you ever had to replace this stupid cartridge! So done with Delta.

"Grab the cartridge firmly and wiggle it as you pull it out", then proceeds to do so, with plumbing that has never actually been used. If the cartridge has been in place for 15 years in a hard water area, the process is more like: Yank, pry, pull. Soak with vinegar to dissolve deposits. Repeat endlessly. Soak overnight with wd40. Yank, pry, pull. Watch videos of KZbinrs who are doing the same thing with stuck cartridges. Sigh of relief when you realize that your situation is normal. Sigh of frustration when you realize that this could take days. Break cartridge during the many removal attempts. Read all comments in all videos to get ideas on how to get this out without destroying the rough-in plumbing. Try various suggested tactics. End up using a drill, dremel, needle-nose pliers, and other tools to shred the cartridge into confetti sized pieces. **Success after 2 days!!** However the video was good, and gets a thumbs up!
