You should have mentioned to keep the nut on the end of the CV axle. I thought I was following your instructions and I tapped on the end of the axle and gummed up the thread so the axle nut would not go back on to the axle, It was not in view of the camera.

This was amazing! Both sides of my CV axles need replaced. Quoted $4300 (2018 Kia Sedona). Does that seem high considering how easy the job would be for an actual mechanic? I will still have a mechanic do it because I don't think I'm strong enough as a 64 yo woman but you made it VERY easy to understand. 10 years ago I would be out there with your video playing as I go! @onlywenilaugh6589 Жыл бұрын
Do you need a front-end alignment after doing this? Also, I'm thinking if I jack up the side I'm working on a little higher than the other side, it might hold the fluid in without leaking.

Some hearing protection would be a good idea as well. Those electric impact guns can make your ears ring. If you are like me, you have tinnitus and don't want to worsen it. I've done this job serval times and I always replace the axle. I'd hate to do all that work and replace just the boot, only to have the axle go bad in 6 months. And then you'll have to do it all over again and replace the axle.
@GettinJunkDone2 жыл бұрын
Once again, you're right on all accounts. I should e been wearing hearing protection, and normally I do.

Mazda 3 auto...no room for the pry bar on driver side and no tabs! Must use a puller, like a huge crows foot that gets back under CV and attaches to a slide hammer. Impossible to do without it. And it matters if its an auto or manual as the manual axles are 3/4" longer for some reason. Ask me how I found out...:-( Passenger side has access to back flange to hammer out.

Stupid question: is this on the front driver's side? This axle, are there two? On for the front left driver side and one for the front passenger side? I have already replace a lot of parts of my suspension but the sounds I am hearing are clearly from a CV axle. I have. Kia sorento xm from 2010, 197 bhp automatic transmission, fwd.

2010 fusion. I hear minor sound every now and then. How to be sure the sound I hear is an axle joint and not shock absorber.
@mthombenimasonwabe4 жыл бұрын
I'm not a mechanic but these are the typical sounds your suspension parts will make: Wheel bearings will usually make a growling/humming/grinding sound. Inner CV joints will make a clunking sound while driving straight, while outer CV's make funny sounds when turning your steering and you accelerate (that way you'll even even which outer cv has gone bad). And typically speaking; if anything that has bushings on your suspension goes bad, there'll be a metal on metal type of a sound and an uncomfortable knocking sounds on uneven roads since there's no more proper cushioning or friction reduction in place Ball joints, shock mountings, control arms, tie rods and ball joints will definitely confuse you until you do a thorough check up since they have vibration isolators (i.e. rubber bushings)

@keith455-73 Жыл бұрын
I am wondering if putting that thick grease onto the end of the axle shaft before reinstalling the axle into the transaxle will harm the transmission by blending in with the transmission fluid because it is on the drive axle output shaft side of the trans axle. The opposite side is just the axle side,but the drivers side seems to have more exposure to the internal components of the transmission. Is this a safe method for an installation lubrication? Would using 90 weight gear oil be safe to use or should I only be using transmission fluid for lubrication?

I can't get the axel out. Seems frozen in. Can I just replace the outer cv joint?
@GettinJunkDone Жыл бұрын
Hopefully you've gotten this figured out by now, but I bet if you keep working at it, the axle will eventually come out. Try some penetrating fluid where it enters the transmission, and tapping on the shaft with a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer. Hopefully the shock and penetrating fluid will free it up.
