The local fire department brings wrecks around various malls, schools, fairs, etc, to impress people to drive safely. They had one car that was completely upside down and all I could think about was how easy it would be to work on it that way!

If you can handle working in a big puddle of fuel, coolant and various oil products as it's all going to run out. And then the unsecured battery will short out on the bonnet and you will be requiring someone to call that firetruck as you burn to death.

I'm very on top of my car maintenance, which is why I took it to a mechanic the week I realized I was loosing oil too fast. They did the test where they pump oil through to find the leaks and came back with *SIX!* leaks from six different parts and gave me a quote for 3,600$ of repair. That's right, six gaskets failed at the same time. I blame Florida humidity. Now the rear main seal requires dropping the engine and I can't do that but everything else? Thank you, Scotty Kilmer for saving me a load of cash.

When you car gets older and starts to leak around the oil pan, 9 out of 10 times it's because the gasket shrank and thus .... oil leakage What you can do before you replace the gasket is check to see if the oil bolt are loose ( they will be loose), snug the bolts up and odds are it will stop the leak. I've done this many times over the years and never had to replace the gasket.
@jacobybtw48197 жыл бұрын

Another tip is if the oil map is hard to maneuver, you can use your car jack to raise the thing up. Sometimes putting a board between the oil pan and the jack will also help. If you use gasket sealer, like Scotty did, just put it on the outside edge, just like Scotty did. If you put gasket sealer on the inside edge, when you tighten the pan down, little pieces of gasket sealer will squish into the oil pan, and circulate with the oil, and maybe clog little oil passages. Instead of using gasket sealer, you can also use grease, any kind of grease, or a little motor oil. The grease is just to hold the gasket in place while you install the oil pan. There is no pressure inside the oil pan; so you don't want to be a knucklehead and tighten the screws as much as you can. Those are small screws, if you tighten them down too much, they will snap off and that's a bad day. I just tighten the oil pan screws until they are snug, and then just a tiny bit more, an 1/8 of a turn to a 1/4 of a turn extra.

Thank you!!! I was looking all over the internet on something to hold a gasket on my 2014 nissian maxima cvt pan. It was taken off before to clean the magnets and change the ns-2 fluid, inspect the internal screen and change the outer filter. We'll 4,000 miles later I knoticed its leaking where the gasket and the oil pan is at. So will have to try this again but this time I'll try that sealant. Thank you so much and that will relieve my issue in the future when I change out the fluid again. You should have someone bring one in to have that job done so everyone can be relieved on how easy it is. I think it makes a big part in cvt for its long lasting life (don't know yet)

after the gasket dried on, I turned it upside down and blew it all out with compressed air. And you know nothing about cars if you think a blocked oil filter will blow an engine, all modern cars have bypass oil filters so if they clog no damage is done at all.

Scotty, I hope you never need to take that gasket off because if you used the black version of what we use to call "YELLOW DEATH" meaning the 3M super weatherstrip adhesive which if you got it on your hands it would be there until you die you'll be there scraping for 100 years. The best way to remove old RTV is with a 3M bristle disc and a right angle die grinder. For a stamped steel pan like that the green ones are the hot setup and for aluminum the white are the preferred grit. Also for holding the gasket in place Gasgascinch works really well.
