Very good video. I had a 2007 Passat Wagon with an Automatic Transmission and this video helped immensely. Note the Automatics have a transmission cooler in front of the Battery area in the engine bay. Accessing the "top" side of the Starter was much more difficult but still possible. I went through MANY combinations of 18 mm sockets and extensions until I got the right combination. I dropped the old starter DOWN versus pulling it UP as was done in the video. I also pushed the new starter UP from underneath the car - I did gently move the lower radiator hose to be able to pass the starter mote by it.

I’m doing a 2009 Jetta 2.0T DSG Wolfsburg - this looks nearly identical. Airbox on Jetta has one hex bolt though in addition to the rubber grommets holding it in. I removed the battery and tray just to make a bit more room to work. I’m curious if it’s possible to get at bracket and bolt from top as I don’t have a lift?

Yes it’s definitely accessible from the top. Use the proper size socket and extension compo and you should be able to remove it. Thank you for watching.

@@a2zautomasters862 I got the starter out and bench tested it - it’s dead. Ordered one online and will finish when it arrives. Great video - gave me confidence that it wasn’t going to be a complete nightmare job.

Why does the video title say 2006 if it’s a 2009? Same generation, but still…
