Keyfobs are notorious for having a button become sticky or generally non-functioning. Try this quick cheap trick next time your keybob fails.

Nice one bro, what if the remote fob key light don't blink when you push the button?
@jeremy_rigged2 жыл бұрын
I’d start with making sure the battery is new (or at least good) and burnish the battery contacts with fine sandpaper of Scotch Bright pads to ensure no corrosion is between the battery and contacts. If all is good there, then you either still have a bad or dirty button contact, or something is damaged in the circuitry of the FOB… I typically find this to be from water damage with matte gray or corroded solder joints, circuit board rust stains, or a white powdery appearance being possible visual clues.

Don't pay someone to pop the lock again. that little key that slides out is for the drivers door, at the rear of the door handle is a plastic cover that pops off (look at the handle from the bottom and you will see a small slot you can stick the key into to pop the cover off) once the cover is off their is a key hole to unlock the door. The alarm will go off when the door is opened but you can start the car normally and it will shut off.

In this particular remote there are four micro switches on the circuit board. I felt the click when I pushed on 3 of them but no click on the Unlock Door switch button. I did not see that you made this sensitive test before cleaning. After taking the circuit board out "with much difficulty" I verified the unlock micro switch seems to be broken and the button does not produce a click when depressed. I did soak it in 91% Alcohol with no success. Is it possible I drew the short straw and my switch is actually broken? Thank You
@jeremy_rigged4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you may have grabbed a short straw. depending on the exact year and model of the fob, the inside of those "micro-switches" is either a metallic spring plate with a conductive rubber base, or a silicone cone shape with conductive rubber base. (The metallic spring plate style makes the clicking sound you refer to... where the model of mine is a rubber cushion style switch which makes to tangible click or click feel.) Your physical switch is most likely worn out unfortunately. My video is only to address the more common issue of contact fouling from simple dust and other incidental contaminants. I'm sorry it didn't help your situation.

Common sense, have a little spray (not soak it) into the keygap too (and around whereever there are contacts or connections (again dont soak it, just a tiny spray). Tip for mobile phones: If your speaker "stop working" (cant hear people you talk too or music), clean the headphone jack (the dirt somehow make some phones think the headphones are connected). Atleast i did that to an LG myself and a samsung for a girl i know, and yes it worked - no bull.

@jeremy_rigged3 жыл бұрын
If you haven’t replaced the battery yet, I would start there. If the ignition still doesn’t recognize the key, it is most likely a pairing issue that will require a trip to the dealer to reprogram, or someone with the correct scanner to perform the same task.

Cant find the Cleaner you are talking about. Is WD40 acceptable??
@jeremy_rigged4 жыл бұрын
WD40 is not advisable, and would probably render all of your internal switch contacts inoperable as WD40 is essentially fish oil, which will leave an oily residue behind. QD Contact cleaner is usually in stock at ACE Hardware stores, and at a lot of auto parts stores. Isopropyl alcohol in concentrations higher than 90% is fine to use, and can be found in big box hardware stores, and pharmacies. Avoid using a scented rubbing alcohol as the detergents found in them can leave a film behind. Also avoid any kind of ethanol as it too leaves an insulating film behind. I hope you can track down one of the above options. www.acehardware.com/departments/automotive-rv-and-marine/fluids-and-lubrication/brake-cleaners/8008104

hi I have the same vw key fob. i washed it with my jean now its draining my battery dry. i placed a new battery one day and it will be dead the next day. do you know what causes this? tks..
@jeremy_rigged4 жыл бұрын
veryh2o it’s possible that one of the switch contacts is shorted / stuck from the trip through the washing machine, or some residual moisture remains trapped inside acting as a short on the circuitry thus draining the battery. I would remove the battery and totally submerge the keyfob for a few minutes in as high a percentage of isopropyl alcohol that you can find. Remove it and shake it vigorously and resubmerge again. The alcohol should displace the water... once the alcohol evaporates you should be back in business. Good luck!
@veryh2o4 жыл бұрын
@@jeremy_rigged sounds like a plan! let me try this and will let you know how it turns out! thanks!!
@hjalmarbackstrom58834 жыл бұрын
@@jeremy_rigged The longer it stays soaked inside, the more is the circuitry get severe or even permanent damage. The idea of using alcohol to help is good, but it's still gonna take quite a while to have it dried out properly. The electronics won't withstand really mean heating, but if it could be taken apart as much as possible and then left in front of a hair dryer for a good portion of time, in a dry place should help. If your hand would withstand the warm air, the electronics should. But tiny passways inside won't dry out fast! Take your time!
@jeremy_rigged4 жыл бұрын
@@hjalmarbackstrom5883 I appreciate the comment but will have to respectfully disagree to a point. 99.9% isopropyl alcohol is the standard cleaning solvent used in microelectronic manufacturing processes worldwide. I've spent 25+ years as a process engineer in the microelectronic and semiconductor manufacturing industry both in the USA and China and have yet to see isopropyl alcohol cause "circuit damage", even in aggressive total submersion ultrasonic baths. Isopropyl alcohol dissolves a wide range of non-polar compounds. It also evaporates quickly, leaves nearly zero oil traces, compared to ethanol, and is relatively non-toxic, compared to alternative solvents. Thus, it is used widely as a solvent and as a cleaning fluid, especially for dissolving oils, displacing water and as a flux and debris remover. It evaporates with simple air flow (no heat required) and is very poor conductor. There are some newer citrus based optically clear electronic safe cleaners, but for the purpose of this video and repairing an already non-functional key fob, isopropyl alcohol is readily available to the general public, relatively cheap, and highly effective. Cheers!
@isidorsiskos25984 жыл бұрын
I soaked it in abaggie of 70% IP Alcohol and gave it a good shake. While the unlock button did start working, the red led light will flash for a while, the car alarm will go off and the trunk will pop open. I can only stop the alarm with the other key. If I wait a minute or so the car alarm will go off again or until I hit lock or unlock. It won't do it unless I take out the battery. I'll blow it dry tomorrow again and change the batteries to see if it gets it to work properly. But thanks for the video!
