Great tutorial! I was able to get this done in my garage in two days. I ended up with a vacuum leak and also tore the PVC valve tube gasket so I had to take the intake manifold off again and replace the intake manifold gaskets. Alex, thanks for the step by step video. I'm a retired Air Force and school teacher. Not a mechanic, but I can follow good instructions. I bought this car in an auction as a project , it had a bad water pump. I took it to a mechanic and I think he didn't want to attack the problem, so he told me I needed a new motor. I didn't believe him, and I said to myself "I'll fix it". I must have watched your video like 20 times. I think I memorized it. I followed your steps, bought the water pump kit you suggested, made sure the timing chain was on right, put it all back together and the car started. I'm retired, so I took my time and it worked. I highly suggest having a cordless ratchet. Again Thanks!

Wait so u dont align the lower crank to the oil pump mark when setting that part of the timing? You move the chain to the mark? I did this exact timing and made the mistake of lining the crank with the 2:00 mark instead of 5:00 and the vehicle ran but sluggish at 2k rpm, so i checked and reset the timing to the lower mark not messing with the cams and now it won't start at all... Awesome video. The missing brackets and stuff loose inside really bothers me. It’s one of the things that got me into vehicle maintenance and repair in the first place. If you take something out, just put it back. It was probably there for a reason. That reason isn’t always super important for function but usually it is, so just put it back. And if someone can’t put stuff back and make sure it’s properly torqued they don’t need to be working on someone else’s car. You do great work, Alex. Keep on it, brother.

Hey there if it has jumped timing there is a 50/50 chance that you may have internal engine damage because you have a interference engine,that means when a timing chain has jumped out of time the engine valve will contact the engine piston.the next step should be a cylinder leak down test if you suspect it has jumped timing hopefully it is something else

I wouldn't use oil stabilizer in this engine for very long. Some components operate on oil pressure and Lucas is so thick the oil pump may not continue to overcome the extra viscosiry. Hello Brooo! please help me. Is it possible to change just the tensioner without disassembling everything you disassembled to access the water pump? very recently, they put a water pump and a tensioner aftermarker on my 2.7, after a couple of weeks began to make noise when starting it in the mornings, (I think this noise is because the non-original tensioner is with problems) the car runs super well, has not jumped the chain, it's just that when you turn it on in the morning sounds, after being perfectly lubricated I turn it back on and the noise is gone. I would like to know if replacing only the tensioner can solve the problem, I think that's the problem. My idea is simply to disassemble the valve covers (to be able to activate the tensioner as you do in 1:10:13). pull the tensioner out from the side, put the tensioner back on and activate it. Is it essential to tune the vehicle first, or can I just remove the aftermarket tensioner and put the new one (mopar)? because to check that the vehicle is on time, I would have to do all the steps you did to check if the mark below is correct, that implies disassembling the damper. thank you very much in advance pd: forgive my writing in English, I am writing from Chile.
@AlexTheCarDoctor3 жыл бұрын
Hello thanks for watching. Have the chain and and guides been replaced if not I definitely recommend doing it right and going in with new stuff but to answer your question yes you can remove the tensioner Without disassembling the front cover you have to remove both valve covers and hold both cams /Locked in place and make sure that the tensioning Guide keeps tension on the chain. If the chain slips out of place you will have to remove front cover to time it properly.good luck be safe have fun

It depends on the engine you have. If it’s the 2.7 L engine then it will be the same. If you have the 3.5 V6, it’s gonna be different. Thanks for watching.

Hi Alex, How do I tell what compression stroke I'mPLewase let me know , I have to buy a new engine. can you recommend a cheaper place? California is like 2200.00 for 122,000 miles. i don't know how they stay I need a computer and a motor. can you sell me one if you have? do you have a video on taking the engine our 2.7l 300. I need your help on this one.thanks Savino. i don't know how to tell intake stroke and exhaust stroke.
@AlexTheCarDoctor3 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy. You can determine compression stroke by taking out your spark plug and tuning the engine over by hand wow holding your hand over the spark plug tube / hole you will feel air push out on compression stroke make sure you disconnect ignition coil while performing this, exhaust stroke happens right after compression stroke. Sorry I don’t have any 2.7 engine for sale.as soon as I get The opportunity I will make a video on removing 2.7 engine. What is going on with your engine exactly

@@AlexTheCarDoctor took the 06 to the shop they say compression 1st time 125 then 2nd time it was o. then they said I have a bad computer because of no spark on 2 coils. but even when I did the compression test I got o I made a new key, battery, water pump timing kit and head kit. spent a lot so either put a motor or junk jard. it was a show car look so sweet black.

So I took it back apart, the tensioner seems to be fine, but when I rotate it with a socket on the crank I run into a slack spot right under the water pump, I can take the slack out if I turn the left cam a lil bit or turn the crank. I DONT think the chain in stretched because it was running fine
@AlexTheCarDoctor3 жыл бұрын
Your hydraulic tensioner may be defective. I would replace it and make sure to activate it by installing it make sure all The Timing Chain slack is on the tension guide side and then push the tensioner in to activate it and take up the slack and make sure to crank the engine over without starting it by disabling the coils fuel etc.

Bro I'm in a major bind and I need you're expertise. I'm working on the 3.5 charger and I was putting the timing belt back on but notice marks came a bit out of line. I tried to tweak the driver side sprocket a tiny bit to get it back in line but in doing so the sprocket shifted like a whole 45° turn on its own like spring loaded kinda. What would I do in this situation?

@@marv.mon.9845 you can make sure it didn’t not hit the piston by turning it back the way it sprung towards in a controlled turn and go slow, turn it if you feel resistance or you can no longer turn it then it hit but if you don’t feel anything you are good, just a quick text

@@AlexTheCarDoctor I did, it shifted counter clockwise first to like 9 o clock. Then I slowly tried to set it back at 12 where the marks line up but it shifted again past the mark to like 2 o clock. So when you turn the key in the on position right before starting position you are not seeing any dash lights correct, you should see dash lights and the warning indicator bulbs like check engine ABS etc.

I have this car and how can you tell it’s a bad water pump if you have no symptoms besides a small leak of coolant? The dealership said it’s a bad water pump but I think they are lying to me. It’s not making any noises, no mixture of coolant and oil, not overheating and I only see a few drops of coolant on my garage floor when the temperature changes.
