👍Good job man. When I worked at the VW dealership, they paid us 16 hours to take out the engine and put it back. Complete rebuild engine was 32h by the VW normative. That time we didn't have a air ratchet wrench, only the impact gun for the wheels.

This is a great video for people learning how to be a proper mechanic. I will stress however to those of you who want to do this, that even though all gasoline vehicles follow the same procedure, the difference in complexity and amount of parts overall is night and day for different vehicles. Example: For an experienced tech, an engine swap on a 99 Toyota Corolla will take maybe 3 hours, however a swap on a 2014 BMW 750li will take 10+ hours.

In the monte u can loosen and unhook everything and it shud drop, in the mustang for example u gotta drop the tranny to get to the motor. It shudnt be a pain da ass, go to montecarloforum.com for more help. Monte's are very strong cars if u take care of them and even wen u don't they can handle the abuse. Mines was sitting for 6 yrs a body work had to do sum minor work to it got it running for a lil then the starter got bad, tranny and motor was still good after all those yrs sitting just needed a tune up and a starter replacement believe it or not.

2 things I want to point out that can perhaps help you out. 1. Make sure you put the bolts in by hand to make sure that it catches the thread correctly before gunning it, this can prevent you from cross threading and or stripping the bolt you wouldn’t want to damage you engine block. 2 don’t hammer in the drive Axles directly as performed in this video as you can deform the head and give it a mushroom, instead use a wood chuck place it over the axles end and then bang it into place.

First of all I’d like to say great video. It was very informative and easy to follow along for people who are just starting out working on cars... which gets me to my next point. I have been teaching my son about cars since he was two (he just turned five) and I was wondering if this was a reasonable project for him to do on his own. I recently picked up a 67 pontiac firebird that’s been stuck in the previous owners driveway for the better part of thirty-five years. Of course, it needs a new engine and I thought that this would be the perfect first major project for him. He’s changed three transmissions, replaced an intake, replaced two exhaust systems and replaced a head on my 69 mustang boss 429. Do you think that this can be done by a five year old. Thanks in advance for any help on the matter.

Here's a decent trick.. don't just disconnect ANY part of the fuel system until you pull the fuel pump relay and drain all the parts of fuel. You can drain the fuel delivery components by cranking the engine after disconnecting the fuel pump. It probably isn't the best way of doing it.. but I suppose you aren't putting an engine on a hoist every single day either; so it shouldn't hurt it.

When lowering and tilting the engine back into the engine bay can you have a lift underneath to hold the engine steady while the crane is attached for added support while piecing it back to all the engine mounts or did the crane handle all the weight while lowered back into the bay? Also if you have to take out transmission and assuming this is all being taken out from the top, use jack stands to support transmission while loosening all the bolts, and then how would I keep the transmission steady while unloosening?
