I recommend adding a string to this replacement. Attach a string to the old igniter end right at the split of the wires. Pull the igniter wire (and string) out through the grommet hole. Then cut the string off. Attach that end of the string to the split in the new igniter and feed the new igniter into the hole. Then just pull the string to pull the new igniter through to the fire pot. Takes all the hassle out of install. Not pictured in video. Remove the grommet from the old igniter via the igniter end and feed it into the new igniter before install.

I have a 4 year old PB and the igniter is no longer heating properly to ignite the pellets. How can I get to the igniter set screw if the screws for the firebox are rusted to the point they can't be turned with a screwdriver or socket? I've always kept my grill covered, so this shouldn't have happened if proper materials were used.
@PitBossGrills
@PitBossGrills Жыл бұрын
We can understand that sometimes the screws are super snug and can be frustrating. There are a few things we can try to get the screws off. I recommend getting a Flathead Screwdriver and a Hammer. I would give the screw(s) that are giving grief a few love taps on the side of the screws head. This should loosen it up and be easier to unscrew. If that doesn't work depending on how many are left, you can turn the access panel to get access to the back of the screws head. All else fails you can carefully drill the screws out. The Access panel screws dimensions are about M5 .08 Thread.

@Mark Ferrari They should make it where you don't have to replace it after a couple of months and just a few cooks. It's like replacing an alternater in a 2022 vehicle with the new car smell still in it. If I knew I'd be opening up panels and unscrewing devices I would have gotten a Kamado Joe instead. Excuse my rant but $1100 is too much for their parts to fail that easily.

I’ve had my Pitboss Pro Series for approximately 1 year coming up in June, still a few months shy , and my igniter went out tonight. Pitboss has been great with my warranty , sending me parts that have Been defective. I’m starting to think , this grill has had a lot of things go out. Grates, temperature proves, now this.. I am considering the fact that I use mine daily. This thing has changed the way we eat! So I’m going to ride out my 5 year warranty and appreciate to positive over the negative

If your Pit Boss is acting up like mine and tripping breakers, you can do one or both of these options. OPTION 1: Get your pellet grill going and then disconnect the purple and white igniter wires. This will prevent a faulty igniter from tripping your breaker after you've started grilling. OPTION 2: Run a switch oto the outside of the grill just for your igniter. Turn the switch on to start the grill and turn the switch off once the grill is started. 🤯 The first option is $FREE.99 and the second option will cost you a couple bucks at your local store.

This is practically useless for the vertical smoker. The burn pot doesn't come out through the top, and there is a lot more to remove than just a single cover plate. A separate how-to video is definitely warranted in this case.

Good practice is 1/4-1/2 but it isn't the end of the world. It just runs a bigger risk of being covered in pellets and choking. If you ever wind up using an off brand and the ignitor is drowned in pellet waste that comes with non-100% natural pellets, like sugars or plastics, it would be a bit harder to start up the next time.It's a pretty simple mechanic going on, so its simple to address if something is going wrong, just keep an eye on it.

Hey JJ, the igniter draws the most amount of power and only stays on during start up. Most of the time when the grill has a power fault within 5-10 minutes it's due to the igniter. To test this, try leaving the igniter unplugged (purple/white wires) and run the grill. If it doesn't error out we know the igniter was at fault. Feel free to call our CARE Team at (480) 923 9630 for further troubleshooting steps.

@PitBossGrills 11 ай бұрын

The screws on the bottom plate - there are 7 of them - are too soft metal with shallow heads. Three of them shredded easily and I had to drill them out. Except they are threaded into permanent bolts on the inside, therefore once the heads are drilled off, they are difficult to replace without a major overhaul. This is a materials and design flaw. Also, my igniter cable was zip-tied to a bundle of wires inside the box and did not have enough give to reassemble and firm up the set screw (with 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the igniter exposed in the fire box). Therefore I had to cut the zip tie, free up the cable, assemble the firebox with igniter and set screw in place. This is more work than it should have been.

Try accessing & loosening the 6 screws on the hopper after the pit has been in use for 18 months. Q: why are there 6 screws on the bottom of the hopper & not a simple large wing nut? A: It wasn’t meant to be accessible & this fix is for an unexpected but common problem. The bottom of the hopper & the 6 screws are dusted & rusted together & cannot be opened unless the pit is new. I had a fire in mine that screwed up the paint, too. Had to brush off what I could and applied some high-temperature paint. Did the trick but looks kinda janky now.

Is this is a common problem, I just purchased my pittboss Laredo 1000 a few months ago, it started acting up from the beginning, took over an hour to get to temp the first burn off and and the ERR message came on the third cook… a real pain in the ass

This is the comment you need to read because i actually watched this video, then replaced the igniter.....you will notice in this video, the grill being worked on is brand new. No cooking has been done on that grill. My grill that needed an igniter changed has been used because that makes fucking sense. EVERY screw i encountered might as well have been a tack weld. Because the garbage dollar general brand screws this company used INSIDE or immediately adjacent to THE IGNITER BOX that by design, gets up to 600 plus degrees are NOT serviceable. But it is eventually doable. Good luck, but put whatever you thought you were going to cook back in the freezer. Because you are going to have to run to the hardware store at least twice for new screws and a grinder cut off wheel.

This isn't at all applicable to the Pit Boss Competition Series with the removable burn pot. It SHOULD be easier, except the set screw holding the ignitor in place snapped off so I can't get the old one out. I've place 5 CALLS to the Pit Boss customer support center. Every time the answer is different and every time the parts take WEEKS to ship even though they are in stock. I'm so fed up! Can y'all support your product or not?

This is more of a "Just Incase" not a "when your ignitor goes bad." I've cooked on dozens of Pit Boss's, never seen or had a bad ignitor in person. This is definitely for the guys who have had theirs running for 8 years.

I’ve had mine less than two years and use it on average 3 times a month and last night the igniter stopped working, so it’s more accurate to say anything can happen and more accurate to say, “Should your igniter go bad, order a new one from us and this is how you put it in......”

Thanks for the video. I bought the 700fb and within two cooks the igniter went bad. Customer service was great and sent out a new one (these things come with a 5 year warranty). Here’s my problem- those eight screws on the undercarriage were drilled in so tight and the screws are so cheap that they strip EASILY. I ended up drilling thru them just to get to the bottom. Please just go with four screws and use decent hardware. The people at customer service were great and understood (and agreed) with the screw problem as they have to work on them too. Once I got it fixed I’ve loved it....

I have a 5 month old 1100 serious. On my 10th cook…..with a house full of guests the grill gives me an igniter error code. Party is over. I get to reading and understand this is a common problem. What gives guys? I shouldn’t have problems nor should others with practically brand new or absolutely new equipment that costs hundreds of dollars. So now I have to spend more money and time to make work what your factory should be ensuring before we receive our grills. Simply put…..DO BETTER Pit boss!!!
