Great video! Mine was sticking and didn't move well. I ended up taking it out and putting powder graphite (instead of WD40) in all the crevices to get it all loosened up. Worked very well. Thank you for posting this!

You're welcome. I was told by a Chrysler technician not to use graphite in the lock cylinder. He said it will gum up the works. Of course I paid him $60 to rebuild the lock with new tumblers and a week later it stuck again.

Rock Auto has a complete cylinder kit with all the wafers to key it yourself. No need to go to a dealer. Super easy repair.

The dealer repair on mine didn't hold up for long. I found a Statec kit and it's been working good for over a year now. Thanks for the info.

I used the Dorman kit on my dakota. Takes more time to remove all the plastic stuff than to complete the repair.

My son used the tilt steering to move the colum around. We only had to remove the two plastic covers over and under where the ignition switch goes.

Great video. It worked for me all the way up to the 6:00 mark where your key magically turned. Mine did not turn. I flushed it with Electromotive Cleaner until it was no longer pouring out of the cylinder as a black fluid. Sprayed 3-in-1 Lock Lube, but it still will not turn. At this point should I just break or drill out the cylinder???

Try tapping the key lightly with a hammer. This sometimes persuades a stuck tumbler to get out of the way. If you tried this and it fails, yeah the drill

My switch went bad and the key was stuck I know this vid is pretty old but anyhow I had to get the van started so I fought with it until I got that cylinder out But when I put the screwdriver in to start it a small brown plastic piece and a spring came out it started but wondering how important those are, before I buy a new lock cylinder..thanks

I have no idea, but usually a bad thing when unknown parts are fall or fly out. But as I've discovered, every little thing in there isn't absolutely essential.

Replacement aftermarket priced @ $100; 97 Dodge van ~ need to find how-to video; I used Amsoil product this morning on 2 new keys cut from blanks that did not open side and back and now can open them - plan at the moment is to use screwdriver on ignition switch and retain keys for doors

Smart idea. Mine was fidgity for a long time and then I got stuck at the grocery store. Luckily after shifting it in and out of gear it started one more time and I made it home. After that it wouldn't start again. Son replaced it last night and it's back in business. This is at least the second switch this van has had. They go out a lot in these vans.

I took something hard and tapped while turning and got it to turn, at least my vehicle is home... now trying to figure on if i have a chip, Auto Zone says no, but Dodge says 2001 up most do.... so.... I'm gonna change it tomorrow per your directions and we shall see...

Try tapping the key lightly with a hammer as you try to turn it. Sometimes this can move a stuck tumbler just enough...

I'm guessing I got the ignition cylinder either stuck or I'm not pushing the right button because it's stuck halfway in, it'll turn a bit to the right and bit to the left but I can't pull it out.

So someone tried stealing my 04 T&C, not only was the CPU fried so even if it didnt have the new ignition (where you can put a screwdriver in it and let it rip), it still wouldn't have went. But they took the ignition part out and theres copper coils everywhere. could i fix this at home? and if so, how? also what would be your estimate if i had to take it to the shop?(doesn't have to be spot on btw)

That's a tough situation. This is far beyond an ordinary car repair. I really have no ideas on cost. This sounds like insurance may come into play to help you.

I’ve lost my key what do you do if you can’t turn the switch to push in the little lock and release the ignition? I’m stuck trying to figure out what to do about it. Went to the dodge dealership they made me a key by the vin but I’m thinking the guy there didn’t do it right. I took it back and he said it was right but I’m doubtful he really did it right. Now I’m at the place that I want to just take the tumbler out and replace it but the key is not right so it won’t turn 🤷‍♂️

You may have to replace the entire ignition. I took one out once and it isn't too hard. I had to buy a couple of Torx security bits to remove the tumbler body. You may be able to find used parts online or at the junkyard as these are several hundred dollars new.

+Bill LeGard Usually it will eventually turn into the on position. But if not a few good raps on the key with a rubber hammer worked for me. If that doesn't work the entire assembly may be needed.

i have a 2000 Chrysler 300m. my key was stuck in the ignition. I've taken everything off and finally got the key out. but if I put the key back in and turn it, it will not come out. right under the switch is cable with a little plunger in it. if that is out of it's holder the key will go in and out of the switch. does anyone know what that plunger is called and what does it do?

That's probably an interlock device, a safety feature to keep the car from starting when in gear. Something may be amiss in there.

For anyone in the future needing this, use a drill bit or chisel to chip the release flat to remove it, only damage the release enough for the cylinder to come out. -automotive locksmith

Unless you want to take out and replace the entire ignition, you'll need a key. Either go to a dealer with the key code or you will need a locksmith.

That happened to me too once. I got it to turn with a couple of raps with a hammer on the key. Good luck.
