What a great, to the point video. Perfect for us here in California that use above ground valves exactly like these. Most other videos show buried valves or other unfamiliar valves from here on the west coast. Thanks for making this how-to video. It was the exact demo I was searching for.

What is the connector coupling actually called? Trying to find one online for my husband.
@coffeeabuse2 жыл бұрын
The inlet and outlet pipes going downward and upward - each use a coupler which is a female threaded fitting on one side and a glued fitting on the other side, and that works in combination with a union, which is what he was using the Channellocks (adjustable pliers) to tighten. So each valve uses one coupler and one union.

what is the part that connect to the coupling connector? execellent presentation. That is what I am looking for. Thank you for the video.

@@hammockmonk yes you should, especially for threaded adapters. *He did wrap backwards though. he needs to wrap clockwise*

Did you turn off the breaker that powers the sprinkler valve?
@helixwaterdistrict4614 ай бұрын
No need, only because sprinkler valve wires are low voltage 24-volt direct current and are only activated when the controller is running. If you read up on how DC electricity works you can see why there was little risk but I suppose if you want to be 1000% safe, you can shut off the breaker too.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. We are glad that you appreciate this brief how-to video. I wanted to share a few behind-the-scenes takeaways: Valves are easy to replace and don’t delay your repairs. When this valve broke, it caused the drip zone it was hooked up to leak 24/7, and it ended up drowning and killing a plum tree. Some of you pointed out that I filmed and applied the plumbers tape incorrectly. I apologize. I did not get footage of applying the tape correctly, which is clockwise around the threads. This video did not show that I had to uninstall the valve and reinstall it by running the tape clockwise to get the connections to seal. Thank you everyone who noticed this. Finally, if there is another how-to that you would like to see, please drop us a comment and let us know!

So what side is the water supply coming from.
@helixwaterdistrict461 Жыл бұрын
In these types of valves, the water supply side is where you see the black adjustment knobs. In this example, the source side comes from the rear pipes.

Constructive criticism: the music interferes with what you’re talking about. Solution for me; lower the volume, or eliminate the music.

I've used those coupling connectors and was not hugely impressed. To get them to not leak sometimes took enough torque to break them. AND after a few years in the sun (or underground) they will be even more brittle.
@Thekidthatdid408 Жыл бұрын
They are trash. They always find a way to leak. I never ever even thought about using them on a clients yard lol

Maybe it’s just me, but why does the music dominate the voiceover work? Don’t you want us to hear what it is that you’re saying? This is a weak point in so many videos that I watch on KZbin. Someone needs to be looking out for the interest of the video producers. But, the people who produced the work should watch their own videos and decided they like how it sounds. I think of you listen back to this video you would wonder why you can’t hear yourself that well

@@helixwaterdistrict461. For those who don’t know. It is being removed as you apply it if you go the opposite direction. Very simple Nipple threads always above my right foot. Apply Teflon away from me. A few wrap arounds and good to go. Stay clear from the first threads and your good to go

Those couplings are trash. Never use them. I’ve been doing this same stuff for over 15 years and I’m always changing those out because they leak after a few years. Best to just use slip, slip couplings and glue in new pipe. If need be, add a lil more pipe so in the future if you need to replace, you have enough room to cut and replace valves again. Also never use that crap sprinkler head in video. They are also trash an I’m always replacing them for clients as well. New technology is always better. Remember that
