Off camera I actually did clean the outside and the inside of the tank. Due to safety reasons and also to make sure and clean any sediments from the bottom of the tank also. So no metal sparks would ignite any flame.

Exactly not everyone has a garage or a fancy tools and I try to work with what I have and I try to share my experience with other people in case they work with little to no tools. And I try to not edit out all of the hard parts if I’m having trouble I know other people will probably have trouble and I want them to see how I deal with it which gives them an idea of how they can deal with it. Glad I found your video, great step by step…I found after dropping the tank with a 1/4 gas my siphon hose was too week and large to fit through the guarding teeth and flap into the tank. One of the best videos I’ve seen, keep it up!

It took me longer to get the fuel line off the pump than the rest or the job put together. What you showed at 13:45 really saved me. THANK YOU. Maybe there is supposed to be a way to push and release but it wasn't going to happen. Like you showed, I had to dig out that clip. I took a little time and I starting with incremental sized jewelers screwdrivers to get both sides to come out sorta together. I did not want to break the clip or I'd be days getting another. FYI, the whole job was because somebody wrongly replaced the pump before, and broke the fuel level sending unit float arm when installing it (fuel gage stopped working) . I say wrongly because the original pump never failed. It was the Total integrated power module (TIPM in a 2011 Caravan). Thank you again for the video.

How did you find the plastic clip just in case you had to replace it. I broke mine but done even know where tog etc started to find a new one

I think if I were you I'd use safety wire (stainless steel tie wire (original use was to tie screws on aircraft so they don't come loose) and just wrap around the line below the connector and then tie it to the plastic unit. I would drill a few small hole in the webbing of the pump housing to tie to. You could probably do a similar job with zip ties. Make sure the connection is secure and won't rust off.

Since I have done worked on cars here in there since I was a kid with my uncle it took me about 2 1/2 to 3 hours but I’m kind of used to doing these things even though as my main job I became a computer technician. But I work on a little bit of everything.

That last connector you pulled off was into the charcoal canister. the "fuel filter" and lines coming off it that have no clamps or connects are all part of your evap system (controls emissions from evaporating fuel) Good work, never fun on the ground with Jack stands hahaha. Keep on wrenching

before you pull the fuel pump go around the top and tap it to loosen the rust ,, then get a shop vac to clean debis befor pulling it out

This is a good video for this repair. If I could offer you a suggestion; a little bit of lubricant does wonders, use it on the retaining ring, the bolts, and the fuel neck hose and you’ll find your reassembly is a lot easier. Also it doesn’t hurt to mention that you will want to take great care not to introduce dirt into the tank. Good job !

When you use the flat head to get the fuel line off that was wrong that is a push button quick connect you do not pry on it you could damage that line the plastic line going to the assembly

You are correct you COULD damage it if you don’t have a quick disconnect but I did it gently and it worked but technically you’re right to get a quick disconnect tool I believe I mentioned that in the video.

I know its not uncommon to get a bad fuel pump but is thr any way to be sure it's bad b4 have to drop the tank for the 3rd time? Had a bad gas leak dropped tank broke housing on pump. Tried to rig it, got it back in gas still leaking. Had to buy the whole pump. Replaced it. Put it back together and fuel pump doesn't come on at all. Relay & fuse good. Really not trying to drop this tank again. Any advice besides some folks just arent meant to be diy'rs. 🙄🙃

Well, what you can do is have someone turn over the key and not turn it on while you’re next to the gas tank and see if the fuel pump primes the fuel because as soon as you turn the key over before you start the vehicle, you’ll hear the fuel pump kick on and it’ll kind of prime fuel to be ready to be started. You can try that a few times. If you don’t hear anything kicking on then the fuel pump is not getting any power and it’s not working at all

an access point underneath the back seats should've been mandatory on all vehicles, I gotta a 2004 Durango I need to change the fuel pump out on, and I'm thinking I'm gonna lift up my back seat, cut the carpet out and use a corded Dremel with cutting wheel and make my own access point that the manufacturer should've done in the first place, I'll record it when I do it, it'll be invisible to see once done and I'll replace the small cut out with carpet and aluminum plate, but, if I change my mind, I'll be using your tutorial, thank you.

The tab on top the fuel line quick connect fitting presses in to unlock, then can be pulled off. That's why it broke! :)

I have a aspen that I ran on a empty tank for a few miles… I put a quarter tank on it drove it and turned off on me… I first thought it was the alternator it wasn’t that I checked fuses the truck will crank starter and all but til I noticed no gas being pumped to the engine… i sprayed gas directly into the throttle and it turned on but then off.I purchased a Bosch unit and will be installing tomorrow morning hope that solves it my family depends on her

It’s been so long ago I can’t remember right off but I do know that there’s a certain length on each one of those brackets and only the bigger one will cover up the back I believe is where it’s taller and I believe the smaller one goes up front, but the front bracket will not cover the length of the back if it’s the smaller bracket I hope you see what I’m saying you can just hold the brackets up to the tank as you put it on and see if it will reach or not.

I have the same vehicle. Getting the fuel pressure test done today. I'm still not sure if it's the fuel pump. My symptoms 7 or 8 seconds cranking then starts every time. While it warms up it might stall a few times. Once it's warm it won't stall and pers like new. No running rough...until I get up to highway speed. Then I get some hesitation and power loss. A lot of times this will be caused by an 02 sensor intermittently going bad where the fuel and air mixture is not what it’s supposed to be., also with it’s starting like that I would say check your crank sensor. That’s what I can think of right off top of my head.

@@Mr_Goody What happened to mine was when i was taking it off the old one half the plastic of the fuel pump broke off inside the connector. So to replace yours did you heat up the hose with a heat gun, pulled the old one out, then just put the new one on there? Sorry for all the questions but its pretty much the last thing i have left to figure out. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, I think I put a whole new hose on from where it connects to the tank with a quick connect already built in on the other end, and I had to measure how long it was so that it would have enough length to connect. The reason it broke on me in the first place is because overtime where it’s plastic it had become brittle and it just kind of broke under the slightest bit of pressure but a new hose with a quick connect on the end did the trick, and it was pretty easy to put on and be back up and running again.

The car was spitting and sputtering and died. If you turn your key over without starting the car you should be able to hear the fuel pump kick on. If you don’t hear it come on that is a good indication that your fuel pump has went bad.

@@Mr_Goody All good now and quick tip is to use a 3 or 4ft aluminum rod to bang the rim off with as the rod will get a little banged up but the ring will be golden. I got lucky this time and had it off in 5min.
