I got EXTREMELY lucky on my '04 with this. A hurricane came through, filled the #6 cylinder up with water, and hydrolocked mine. Thank God mine unlocked when I pulled the plugs out. I replaced the intake gaskets right then and there, and she still runs like a charm to this day with almost 230k miles on her. 😀

Great job getting that fixed quickly . The flat design of the intake and how it sits is a unavoidable water collector if the gaskets are bad. I have read where a downpour or car wash visit was enough to ruin the engine. Thank you for sharing and watching.

This finally got my 05 with hair over 240k miles, but in my case it was cycl 3. Didn't snap the rod but bent it just enough that the balance started tapping the bottom of the piston. Thats the one thing I have noticed owning an 05 is these things just don't handle water control. Have to drain the doors every so often, if it rains in winter and then freezes over night you can forget putting your seat belt on cause its frozen solid. Every so often I will start driving and look in the rear view mirror and there is a water fall in the back of the vehicle just inside the rear gate, yes INSIDE the vehicle. But it seats everybody and pulls everything I need it to up to 14k lbs, so eeh. Maybe some day I will be able to get my hands on a AMK23 7 ton or a nice old M35 deuce and half.

Do I need to replace that or can I take it out completely? I've never seen a gasket to gasket connection like this period and all the other videos and pictures I've seen do not show the fiber gasket with screen over every port like I have

one hell of a great job and a really well documented video, thank you! it doesn't look like you marked the sensors you were unplugging, how did you know where to plug them in again? is each a different size or shape? in particular, you were reaching in to the right of the throttle and it looked like there were several sensors that needed to be plugged in, how did you know which was which?

14:20 just a quick note: pull the wheels and inner fenders for the best access to spark plugs. Sounds like more work, but will actually save a lot of time and makes it really easy. Also make sure you use the correct length extension at the brake booster as there is not much room.

@s33therfan

With your truck being a 2017 , I would replace them anyways.( fel pro or oem ) Now the engine design itself seems to allow water intrusion but the other issue on the Durango is the cowl design. I have heard where people locked up a Durango after coming from a car wash. The trucks never seem to have had the same problems. Thank you for your question and thanks for watching.

Yes it would be a good idea while you are in there. The orings are pretty inexpensive and usually at most part stores. I carefully remove them with a pick tool and clean them with a little gasoline. When popping it all back in place I like to put a light bit of oil on the orings so it goes into place easier. Great question and thank you very much for watching.

@s33therfan 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing the great information. I would highly reccomend for anyone to change these intakes often , as they are fairly inexpensive. I pretty much use only fel pro with aftermarket gaskets . I think theres a combination of engine design, plastic intake and heat. These intake gaskets are cheap and just do not hold up. The engine provides a nice flat valley for water to easily find its way and sit. And I feel the plastic intake does not stay flat over time, hence the reason the rear seems to take in water more. As for how often I think once every 3 years given the potential cost would not be unreasonable. Thank you very much for the great feedback , maybe with this information word can spread. Thank you for watching.

Can anyone help??!! I bought an 06 slt it has just a little over 100k. Before purchase I knew it had a few codes mostly for exhaust. Nothing major. After a full fluid flush and change the valve cover seal blew so as I was attempting to replace I put e brake on and after release it seemed stuck in fwd (I do have a srvc fwdlight) on and after I took a brake and parked it for the night ( after a 2 block test drive) it now won’t go in to any gear whatsoever. Meaning that it will just roll. Brakes don’t work , e brake don’t work. Literally just revs in any position. I tried playing with the dial and the awd neutral lock and resetting but now still nothing. It will make a pretty loud clicking sound near the rear differential when I have it running and attempt to put in drive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I can wrench a bit. I work mainly with motorcycles though and can do most things. I’m certain and hopeful this is something smaller than I’m imagining. Thanks all 🙏🏻

When I first tried to start it a few days later it wouldn't even turn over, tried a 2nd time and it started but immediately started knocking bad and #5 cylinder is dead. @s33therfan 4 жыл бұрын
Yes unfortunately this is all too common on these durangos. I have even heard of it happening after a visit to the car wash. The first one I seen had hydrolocked on cylinder 8 and threw the rod through the engine block. The hole was the size of a fist. I replaced the engine in it but spent 2000 on the engine used. The very first thing I did after buying this one was replace the intake gaskets , which are pretty cheap. I wouldn't even take it to the car wash until replacing them. I just really hope to get the word out with this video because the intake gaskets on this engine are very important because of the design . The durango seems more prone than other vehicles as far as I know ( maybe due to the cowl set up) but they get used in others such as ram cherokee etc. Any of those engines will work by the way with just needing oil pan exhaust manifold and intake swapped. Anyways sorry to hear the bad news and best of luck on whatever you decide thank you for watching.

Unless all you think there is as a measurement scale is ft lbs and that's why you automatically assigned the number 105 to ft lbs....in that case 8.75 ft lbs is it's equal. Basically hand tight plus a tad... you don't need a torque wrench/driver IF you apply some mindful common sense to what you are doing.
