Thanks a bunch for this video. I broke this piece while taking off my bumper. I had no clue that this was the back up sensor.

What is the name for that hitch accessory you have shown in the video? I would like to purchase one of those. Thank you!

+kiltman65 That is a recovery hitch receiver.

Does the sensors wiring conector point to the center or outside of the bumper??
@lastgreatroadtrip5 жыл бұрын
It's been awhile and I don't recall. Loosely connect the wire and see which direction puts the least about of stress on the wires at the connection.

Can some one tell me how the wiring harness runs from there to the conector behind the bumper left and right, I am installing sensors on my 2008 fj and I am having a hard time figuring it out..thanks a lot for any help. If anyone has pictures could you email them to me? Thanks again.

For those who watch the video, be sure to lift up on the sides of the bumper cover and pivot the bottom outward to remove them. If you follow the guidance in the video of just pulling straight, it's likely you'll do what I did and break the plastic retainer brackets. Also, expect corrosion to be an issue as two of those 10mm-head bolts twisted off on mine -- spray 'em with some PB Penetrator first.

Depending on the age of your FJ Cruiser and the amount of muck that has been throw up will make a difference when it comes to the 10mm bolts. You're right PB is your friend. Thanks for the tip on the bumper cover ninja move. Ours came off fine but I like your cover pivot recommendation.

I was actually surprised by the bolts twisting off as it's 10 years old but has lived a fairly cushy life in California. Nicely, all the bolt locations have clear access to both sides so easy to drill out and switch to stainless steel 1/4-20's with nylock nuts. And on the broken retainer bracket, a healthy serving of PC-7 epoxy made it as good as new. FWIW, in my case it was the left sensor that failed, and I replaced it with a factory part rather than the sub $15 aftermarket options.

Can some one tell me why those sensors are not centered? What is the distance between them? I am in the process of installing them. Also how the wire harness run from the sensor to the conector, thanks for any help.

if my sensor are still in place, can I just pop the sensor? Or I really have to do all the same job? Thanks!!! ;P

My 07 FJ has an additional plastic slide bracket to hold in the sensor on the inside of the bumper. Are all the aftermarket sensors junk, I can't believe the price difference $244.22 - $8.00.

Toyota parts are not inexpensive... don't know the quality of the knock off sensors but at that price it is worth giving it a try.
@jjack68966 жыл бұрын
I ordered an inexpensive one through Sears marketplace for $11.00 and some change including tax and shipping to try. If it's junk I will let you know plus I can just stick the problem back to Sears to get my money back.

Hope that Sears sensor works out. Let me know how it goes.

El Frankito it’s been a year now and the one I replaced works as well as the other one. I installed a rear view camera and tested both sides last week.
lol @ 1:29 "A flathead screwdriver will lift this out easily." Then the rest will crumble and your Toyota dealer will try to rip you off at $1.30 each for plastic nothings.

+Kevin108 yup... those little plastic snaps are great until you need to remove and use them. And of course there have to be about 100 different types of plastic snaps in use across the truck.

+Last Great Road Trip One of the guys in the blue room showed me a kit they sell on Amazon with an assortment of those pins. $24 for 150 pieces isn't bad at all. www.amazon.com/dp/B00V05LSZU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2GA4JQBC76GQT&coliid=I2H0YRAB9G90S8
