In this video we show the process of replacing the battery in an ASUS UX581 series laptop. This video should also be applicable to similar models. Tools and equipment shown in this video: Replacement battery: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0967QZWG5/ Torx screwdriver set: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089PTHLQ4/ HWMonitor tool: www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html Tips: - The speaker wires can be tricky to remove and put back. Take your time - Lay your screws out in the order you removed them - Watch out for the piece of tape sticking from the battery to the keyboard ribbon cable If you have any questions feel free to ask them in the comments. I just had to do one of these laptops again today. So glad I recorded the process all those years ago! 😊

Thanks for that. Finally managed to pickup the OEM Asus 71Wh battery last week and installed today!

Hi Mike, I downloaded the HWMonitor app, and the app only shows the "wear levels" on my laptop battery at 100%-no Charge level, no Full Charge Capacity, and no Current Capacity. If I unplug the power source, it turns off immediately. Does that mean my laptop has no longer "seen/recognized " the battery anymore?
@CompTechMike8 ай бұрын
Hi Rafael! Thanks for checking out my laptop repair videos. Yes, in my experience, a wear level of 100% means the battery is completely worn out or has suffered some kind of internal failure. As you noted, the laptop shuts off immediately when disconnected from power - this means the battery is not working at all. In addition to the HWMonitor tool you can usually verify this by checking the laptop BIOS settings. In your case, I would start by replacing the battery. Make sure to inspect all physical connectors and wiring for anything loose or damaged. You may have additional issues (such as with the laptop motherboard charging circuitry or the AC adapter), but I'd start by replacing the battery first. Good luck, let us know how it works out!

@@CompTechMike So far, so good. I replaced the battery, and it turned on. Now it's charging. I'll wait until it is 100% charged and remove the power source to test. I just realized the original battery is 71W, but the replacement in your video and the one I've got from Amazon are also 62W. Nothing really to worry about, but I couldn't find any 71W battery. Do you know why?

Hello I did the same and its running but says 0% after charging 15min...do i have to reset something ?
@CompTechMike Жыл бұрын
Hi! Have you installed the free HWMonitor tool? What does it show? It's possible you just need to let it charge overnight. But if HWMonitor shows the battery is "100% worn out" it's possible you got a defective battery. You might also want to try with a different charger, but I'd check that tool first. Good luck!

Hey Hi would happen to know the sizes for the screws ?
@CompTechMike2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Good question. There's different sizes depending on if you mean on the case or for the battery itself. T5, and M2x4L and M2x5L for the battery. If you pause the video at various points (such as 3:23 ) you can see the sizes printed on the battery where they go. Hope this helps!

After doing this the laptop won’t charge. Could I have bumped something? The new battery worked as it drained the power it came with. I also tried putting the old battery back in but charging won’t work. What did I do wrong? :(
@bobkruse48202 жыл бұрын
To clarify, the laptop won’t power on or charge when plugged in anymore.

@@bobkruse4820 hi! Thanks for the comment. It's definitely a frustrating feeling to replace something only to have something else break in the process. 😥 If I understand your comments correctly, the laptop is not powering on at all anymore, even when plugged in? A laptop should be able to run when plugged in even if it physically has no battery at all (you could remove the battery and still be able to use it). Do you have a spare AC adapter? That's what I'd try first. A different power supply. Also go back and double-check any connections near where the AC adapter plug connector is connected to the motherboard. I don't remember for ASUS specifically but many times there is a separate connector so that the AC adapter socket can be replaced without replacing the motherboard. Worst case scenario something in the charging circuitry on the motherboard may be damaged, but I'd try with a different adapter and double checking the internal connectors first. Good luck, let me know if you find the solution!

@@CompTechMike thanks for the quick response! correct, it won't even power on anymore.I just ordered a new power supply. Hopefully that's the problem. It's just an odd coincidence that it would die at the same time as replacing a battery.

@@CompTechMike Had the same issue recently trying to swap out the battery. It powered on after it was replaced, then while using it it powered off and now will not power back on. I tried putting the old battery back in because at least with the old battery it powered on and was usable. Now there is no indicator light and no response from the laptop. any suggestions?
@CompTechMike Жыл бұрын
@@bryandracker6631 Hi Bryan! Thanks for the comment. It's tough to say without seeing it, but I'd follow the same steps I suggested in the comment before yours. It is possible something shorted out or got overloaded during the replacement process, or that the replacement battery somehow damaged something. I'd try removing the battery completely and see if it will power on then (with just the AC adapter plugged in). Also try it with a different adapter, if possible. Reverse your steps and double check everything. Make sure you're grounded before touching any internal components and that no screws are touching the motherboard. Try intermittently long-pressing and short-pressing the power button to see if that jogs it. But if you're not getting anything at all - no lights, no fans, no activity - it's possible the motherboard has failed. Or it could be something as simple as the power button being stuck. Good luck, if you figure it out let us know!

It's been a few years since I recorded some of these videos. I've worked on many of this model laptop and they're all still doing great. I'm glad my laptop repair videos have helped so many people. For anyone just getting started I'd like to recommend this small toolkit: amzn.to/3yYHR0d It contains screwdriver tips of many different sizes (including the "pentalobe" needed for working on Apple/Mac hardware), plastic prying tools (for opening computer cases) and a handy box to store everything. Pretty cheap on Amazon. I've bought one for each of my offices and one for in the car / working on the road. Hope this helps!

Thanks! I normally try to include that information, must've blanked on it when recording this video. 🤣 Here's a link for one on Amazon: www.amazon.com/ZTHY-UX581GV-H2003T-UX581LV-BP1911U-UX581LV-H2014R-UX581LV-H2002R/dp/B0B56QNWQV/ I buy ZTHY brand batteries pretty often and have had good luck with this brand.
