If you pry off the cap, you'll break the tabs and never be able to use it again. You have to remove the mirror first with a trim tool, then bend the tabs on the cap to remove it. 👍

I just recently broke my passenger side mirror. Same thing happened and the bracket snapped on the mirror but everything else is in perfect condition including the wiring. Can I just replace the bracket or do I have to buy a whole new mirror?

Victor Robinson you have to buy a whole new one, unless you want to use like glue or something, but I wouldn’t recommend that

I have a 2005 330 Ci ZHP & I’m replacing the mirrors with M3 mirrors, however the wring harness/connectors are totally different. Any suggestions as to how to reconnect other than cutting and splicing?

The drivers side mirror of my X3 was pushed too far back by accident , no damage to the outer casing or electronics, only the bracket in side that holds the mirror to the triangle fitting broke and now it gangs loose. How can that be fixed? I cannot afford new one. What kind of "mechanic" should be able to assist me? Please advise me. Thank you!

those mirrors had the black part glossy, did certain models have that or was it painted to be glossy black, because every one ive seen is just lack plastic and faded. Anyways nice vid man keep up the hard work!

What are some of the common problems with E46 side mirrors? I see on the forums that a lot of people have issues with them. Some as simple as replacing fuse 57. Some talk about brittle ribbon cable, mirror memory control module, etc, etc. I don't want to go buy a mirror and have it not fix the issue. Drivers side works fine, passenger does nothing, not even tilt in reverse.

Possible that someone replaced it in the past using a different spec mirror - there are so many different part numbers for this due to options like heated mirror, reverse tilt and seat memory adjustment. Lots on eBay but they will have different number of wires.

I recently switch the side mirror and when I connect the plugs for the blinker etc to start working, my door panel switch stops working so I can not roll up or down my window. But if I disconnect the cables from the mirror, it starts working again. Any idea why this could be happening?

hey man I love your vids!! can you help me out with something, I have a 2004 325i and recently it has an oil leak , I took it to get it checked out and they told me it was a hose underneath the intake, it doesn't really leak much just like a small puddle but its still noticible when you look underneath the car you can see all the oil on the bottom parts of car , what do you think is the problem and do you think its serious and I should replace it asap ?

hello can you help me plz I been on all the forums room but not having no luck i have a e46 3 series bmw 325ci convertible 2004 with electric seats and memory and outside folding mirrors I been having Problems with my folding Mirrors so I decided to take the driver's door panel off and I noticed it had no control module i was hoping there would be one to help me out, all it had was 2 Ribbon coming from the mirrors. 1 purple connector and one black connector and i have a purple Switch in the car to control them but when i press the button to make them fold in they work ok but when i go to press the button to fold them back out they do not move any idea what is causing this or help with troubleshoot i can do to solve this problem

Dustman999 get a plastic tool and pry the glass from bottom and sides. its clipped on, easy to remove.

My car doesn't have the heated mirrors, apart from maybe the heated mirror glass but the fuses are missing and adding those fuses doesn't do anything. How do I go about adding heated mirrors to an E46? In my case it's an E46 Compact though. Do I just need to run wires to the fuse box or...?

LogiForce86 u need to make sure there are two wires attached to the back of mirror glass (heater element) pop off mirror and check. if 2 wires are not there then u dont have heated mirrors. there will be 2 male connections on back of mirror for the 2 wires to connect to.

LogiForce86 also the mirror wires should have 5 wires red grey green and 2 black. 3 wires red grey green are on the non heated mirror. i have a compact also and made that mistake when some idiot kicked my mirror off i first bought a mirror with 3 wire non heated when i needed the 5 wire one.

The cables going from the doors to the fuse box... are these already present and do I just pop in the fuses, or do I have to lay some new ones from the door to the fuse box? If the latter than do you happen to know the gauge and color code of those wires?

OK Jason this is as good a time as any to pose this question. (Nice video by the way). Ok my power mirrors seem to have a will of their own, both sides will adjust by them selves at random? It freaks me out, because I'll check my mirror while driving and the damn thing is pointing at the sky! Even when I park the car I sometimes hear the mirror motor running, making noises like it's trying to adjust the view by itself. So I pulled the fuses (2) for heater and motor so that it doesn't drain my new battery and searched like hell on the web. Lots of stories out there of the same mirror trouble but no fix! Have you seen this? My thumb switch appears to move both mirrors only sometimes, my left to right slide switch seems to be ok too. What do ya u think I should try to fix it?

Lycan ZHP I have exactly the same issue. The mirror where the selector(left or right) is will mostly move right and down but sometimes all directions. i cant adjust them at all with the control nob so pulled the fuse and adjusted them manually. took both mirrors off cleaned everything as good as i could and could not see any damage in the ribbon cables. any idea how i could fix this? might it be the control box controlling the seat and window memory?

But really, slow down and show more detail, you could have shown how to take the back plate on the mirror off and how those cables are routed.
