If its non-ethanol fuel it will last a very long time. If ethanol fuel, I would use a fuel treatment for ethanol blended fuels before storage.

Do I have to wrap tape around the brass fuel connection that the hose connects to

That's a pretty debated topic actually. Personally I did but others will say don't because it could get in the fuel line and clog your fuel injectors/carbs.
