Thank you for this video. I changed my belt and first I opened the wrong side od the motor which unplugged the sensor and when I turned the bike on it had an error. I remembered this video and went in again, removed the crankshaft and plugged the pins, now it works, no errors 😅 🎉

Thanks for this video. Very informative. BUT I have to say that the "strech" bolts look like a 5 or 6mm and they ain't gonna stretch at 3Nm plus a turn unless they're made of plastic.
@ebikemotorrepair
@ebikemotorrepair Ай бұрын
Interesting. I’ll be curious to hear what you think it should be. Also keep in mind We didn’t set the specs on them though. Also the “stretch” does not need to be a lot. We’re talking thousands of inch of stretch if that. The main purpose of the stretch bolt is in part to produce friction for a good hold and second in part as to not damage the hard magnesium metal threads. Also, with those specs pointed out in the video we have had zero issues with bolts loosening over time as gaskets compress. I will leave you with this little tip; in a pinch at those specs you can usually get one more use out of them if you’re careful.

How much are reliable those Brose motors? I saw few videos with tooth belt and tensioner problem. Is that belt kind a week point of this motor? I'm interested for buying one E bike with Brose model T motor, I like his power and torque but what after the warranty? A new motor cost several hundred Euros and repair is also expensive here in Deutschland...any advice? Tnx and keep rocking!

@ebikemotorrepair
@ebikemotorrepair 20 күн бұрын
It is made by Brose now. They used to be made by Gates. also there are other bands that will spec the same but DO NOT USE THEM!!! they break so easily if you dont use the OEM part. This is one example of when to use only OEM parts. Those belts are made from carbon fiber and will withstand the torque generated by the internal motor. No other substitutes even come close to holding up. Trust us, we have seen it all.

Is the screw on the top the only thing that sets the tension on the screw or is there a spring aswell? I'd say if that screw all that tensions it regularly setting it would help the belt last much longer?
@ebikemotorrepair
@ebikemotorrepair 4 ай бұрын
The set screw is indeed the only thing that sets the tension on the belt. Resetting it might actually cause some issues because both from the factory, and after an overhaul, there is locked type, applied to the set screw, which keeps it in place. Readjusting it would require you to clean the threads and apply new Loctite and would likely get you within such a small fraction of meter difference that would be negligible. Plus belts don’t typically fail from wearing down from fatigue. They just eventually break or fall apart. They don’t necessarily get smaller in the overall material.

Thanks for the great videos Michael. I have 1,200 miles on my 2022 Turbo Levo Gen 3. The motor seems to run like new. I live in Colorado and have have been able to keep it away from puddles and creek crossings, so the worst it's subject to is dirt and dust. When would you recommend preventative maintenance?
@ebikemotorrepair
@ebikemotorrepair Жыл бұрын
Good for you, Steve. Colorado is a pretty dreamy state for riding. I would say some of our customer base like to have an extra motor that they swap out and have overhauled every year and just make sure to stay ahead of any breakage. But most of our customers fall into a category where we just kind of fix it when things start breaking.

how often you have to replace the belt on Brose? the standard one or reinforced
@ebikemotorrepair
@ebikemotorrepair Жыл бұрын
It’s pretty subjective honestly. Depends on rider, riding conditions, etc. Plus there’s always minor little differences in manufacturing process that can affect about life. But, all of that aside a typical range of life on the belt is about 3000 miles plus or -500 miles. However, we’ve seen some customers go as much as 10,000 miles. We also have some customers that have Bros mounted on passenger and cargo bikes that only see about 1500 miles. To answer your question about the difference between the older belts and the newer belts we tend to see between 30 and 50% more life out of the carbon fiber belts.

@@ebikemotorrepair thank you, as one of the fellow mentioned that it must be replaced every 1000 miles
@ebikemotorrepair
@ebikemotorrepair Жыл бұрын
@@VovanCBR I’d say that’s a bit excessive. My opinion is fix when they break. But I suppose if you want to buy a belt kit to have on hand it would be smart. However keep this in mind… belts don’t slip.. so if you ever experience this it’s going to need to bearing replaced which will likely be a good thing to overhaul at that point. We have your back either way. Also belts and clutch bearings have approximately similar lifespan. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for engaging.

Sorry just seeing this. That’s a blurry timeline but I know they began manufacturing some of them in late 21 and mainly 22 with carbon and polymer. I’m still not completely clear about exactly when those started making their way onto showroom floors. There’s usually a bit of lag time between motor manufacturers date and when they make it into bikes.

sorry but somehow we overlooked this comment originally. The issue is likely the clutch bearing in the belt pulley. Belts don't "slip." They just break usually. But the clutch bearing in the belt pulley will definitely slip when it is failing or failed.

@ebikemotorrepair
@ebikemotorrepair 7 ай бұрын
there are 2 main differences in the brose legacy. All aluminum models (S/T) are mainly the same and all magnesium models (S-Mag) are mainly the same as well. The only differences between those models are the improvements they made on belts and software/firmware. But mechanically they are all basically identical. Also the only main difference between all aluminum models and all S-Mag models are the cases and therefore gaskets are different between those models.

Most likely, you may have damage to the planetary gear. If you change the belt yourself while you have the belt out, you are able to inspect the planetary gears. If you haven’t already done, so try and take it back apart and see if you can remove the black plastic shield, that covers the gear cluster and see if you have damage.

🤣🤣 I hear ya! We repair tons of brose motors and they are definitely prone to failure. I ride anything with 2 wheels myself so don’t discriminate. But when my ebike works it’s a ton of fun. I’m of the opinion that the current industry is evolving and I’m sure we’ll see improvements. But damn… they are a blast! I’m a former MX racer too. I’m used to wrecking ICE drives. So familiar Territory for me. You’re correct though… gear drives fail far less than the brose belt drive. But I will tell you what.. that motor is super intuitive compared to all the gear driven models. Like Bosch, Yamaha, etc.. That torque spec you referred to is important because too much torque and you destroy the planetary gear cluster (nylon) too loose and you destroy the belt. So that’s the purpose at least. If you ever decide to get an ebike the Bosch is pretty on point. We service all of them and aren’t married to any particular motor but the industry definitely has tons of room to evolve.
