The 2010 Ford Escape has the cabin filter in the same location as this '07 in this much appreciated instruction video. There is, however a bit more difficulty in reaching said compartment. FIRST: there's an additional protective/water-flow/directional covering that can only be removed by first removing the wiper blade arms. SECOND: it's not completely necessary to remove this cover, instead pry it back, but be mindful of sharp edged loose end pieces of windscreen within the filter compartment. These WILL cut your fingers(!)as you are prying, and holding the compartment open and situating the filter into place. And, THIRD: Why was there no filter left behind from the previous owner? The hvac odor is was what prompted me to investigate filter options in the first place.

My 2009 does not have the first 3 screws that were removed. However the rest of the steps look straightforward.

I agree - the 2008 is a royal pain. I too did it w/o removing the wipers but those specialty screws in the cowling are impossible. I'm down to my last one and cannot get it back in.. The screws are different than the ones shown here - they're all one piece and clearly do not like being taken out and put back in. For the price of this filter they should toss in a few extras. Also when I looked into the filter housing, I could see a different sort of filter down in there. A waste of time and money

My 2008 escape doesn't have these screws where you are showing the removal. It's a smooth surface.

The cabin filter is a dealer installed option on this model. Your vehicle may not have one installed.

filterheads gotcha. I found where it goes. Can I just place it where it would go? Seems like some Escape models didn't have one installed at factory but I see where it goes.

If a housing is not installed you should goto your dealer to have it installed. After a housing that holds the cabin filter is installed you will be set up to change your cabin filter yourself once a year.

Some car manufacturers do not include filters for lack of space. Most of the time, the filter is an after thought. However, it does seem that cabin filters are coming increasingly popular so a majority of manufacturers are now including them with newer cars. The benefit of having a cabin air filter is the filtration process of removing particles like dust, pollen, hair, and leaves from your car. This helps you breathe better. A lot of allergy and asthma suffers LOVE cabin filters. Think of it like the air filter for your house. Now that you will be getting a cabin filter, it is best to change it every year or 15,000 miles. This reduces debris build up and will help your a/c and heat perform better! We hope this helps! This Ford Escapes did not have a old cabin air filter in its housing but we did install new cabin air filter in this video.

2001 Escape process is similar BUT it requires removal of the entire passenger side wiper arm (it goes through the cowl piece). Each wiper arm goes through each piece of cowl (2 pieces). I got my driver side off easy enough... but my passenger side one seems welded or glued on LoL I cannot for the LIFE OF ME get it UNbolted! I was actually moving the entire wiper assembly rod trying to unbolt the passenger wiper arm. :angry:
