Suggestion Instead of soldering new battery to printed board buy and solder the female version of the connector to Dash cam ,then next time you change battery all you have to do is simply Plug it in. Very good video .

for those viewing; do NOT cut both wires with a single snip. you may damage your battery or even explode it.

Good eye. I also cringed when he cut the wires of the battery connector both at the same time.

I first posted this info on a video which was for Nextbase dash cams, but it could apply to any dash cam with an internal battery. Great tutoring and it set me thinking! The new battery comes with a 1.25 male connector (I made a mistake, it's a female) which you cut off. I would leave this connector attached to the battery. I would cut the wires to the old battery as long as possible. To the end of these I would attach a male 1.25 plug connector. This means I can now have the battery working from outside the camera which saves loads of time if the battery fails again. You need to cut a small slot to one edge of the casing so as not to damage the wires. Just use double sided tape or elastic band to attach the battery to the front casing. Also if you have a spare battery to could use this method to occasionally charge it up. If the new battery for your camera does not have a plug connector already fitted, you can fit your own Because it is now outside, you could use a larger capacity battery.

my dashcam records in 1/3/5 minute files, and what I have found with a dead battery is, if you turn off the car, the current file gets corrupted because it's not completed. So if you're involved in an accident, and you turn off your car, your video of the accident may not be saved. So having a working battery is of utmost importance to allow proper saving of the current video file.

Ben - The heat here in south Mississippi durning the summer is equally as brutal. I’ve made my batteries last by making it a habit to remove my camera from my truck every time I park it. Not only does heat destroy the battery, it also shortens the life of the electronics. My battery lasted for two years.

Probably what happened to may dash cam battery. After 6 months, the settings won't get saved. I had to correct the date and time and other settings everytime I turn it on. But still recording though.

Hack time... Rather than replace the battery cell every year, my thought is to use an external battery holder, and use a single 18650 cell. LiPo charging circuits are generally gentle on the old Li-Ion high C rated cells that I use for other things, so I don't see why I shouldn't try it. With an external 18650, if the cell goes bad, I can replace it in 45 seconds.

18650 will last forever. Becomes portable [spy?]cam. Brilliant!

if i could add anything to the discussion, i would say. measure the batteries physical size, length x width x hight. i have a peak dash cam. i think the model is : pkc0ver 2.4. anyways my bad battery is a 3.7v 250mah lipo battery. so the things i will be after when looking for a battery: USA seller, i dont mes with chinese sellers. 3.7 v lipo, 250mah, dont care what connector is on the battery as i will be cutting it off anyways but it needs to fit. also the dimensions of my battery are 4mm x 40mm x 20mm. there isnt much room in there for a bigger one. i was going to pull a battery from one of my rc helis, but they were too fat. anyways i found one for $6.00 shipped from a USA seller, it is 300mah and my oem is 250, so the new one should last a bit longer, but everyone lies about the mah anyways so who knows what your really getting. i wouldnt let the mah be the way you measure if your new battery is going to fit. you need to measure the old one with a metric ruler and compare to the new one. thanks for the video though. btw my dash cam is less than 4 months old (to me, bought it new) maybe it sat on the shelf for years. i am surprised it had a lipo over a nimh cell and lipos are good but delicate. my dash cam started to do wierd things and then i noticed it wouldnt run on the battery for more than 1 minute, and it wont remove all videos like it did sor the sd card keeps filling up. i am going to start with a new battery and go from there.

Can you just cut the cables in the middle on both batteries and then just patch them together instead of soldering?

Can we use a capacitor instead of battery? Batteries die in hot locations. Can we just solder a capacitor directly? How can we choose a proper one? Thanks

Thank you for the vid! very informative. I'm doing this for a Papago 260. Was able to search for the battery on ebay as u described. Only problem is that the original battery has 3 wires; a red, white and black one that is sodered on. any idea as to why? its a 250 mAh 3.7v
@dial2fast6 жыл бұрын
For Li-ion battery, it's most likely for voltage or temperature monitoring
@rudyacevedo086 жыл бұрын
dial2fast ah I see. Any idea where I could find a battery with all 3 wires ?
@miaflyer23764 жыл бұрын
One can only wonder why dashcam manufacturers don't feature rechargeable off-the-shelf AAA or button batteries which users could easily insert. The idea that the average user has the tools and technical skills to solder battery wires is absurd. I've long ago given up on maintaining date and time and just continue operating with the built-in dead battery.

I opened the back side of the camera up and see its a unique battery that isn't sold at a supermarket. Its a wafer thin flat white battery sized about 1 inch x 2 inches in size. Where do I get a replacement battery?

The way you cut and solder the new wires, aren't you afraid to create a shortcircuit between the wires?
@dial2fast8 жыл бұрын
+mla11170 Even though the new battery is mostly drained, for added safety, cut the wires individually so you don't damage it.
@jemt687 жыл бұрын
You definitely have good soldering skills. For the people with no soldering experience, I would recommend just cut the old wire and joint the old and the new wires, then put a piece of tape and you are done! No soldering required.

hey dial2fast, thanks for the video. One question, i know you mentioned the physical size of the battery to be an important issue, as it may not fit if you get a different one obviously, but do the other specs matter? I have a 3.7v 820mAh 3.03Wh, can I replace it with a 3.7v but different mAh? if so should I go with a higher mAh or lower? I just cant seem to find one with the exact same ones out there. It's for a garmin dash cam 30. Thanks
