Great Video. Takes me back to my 3800, and the trouble we had in trying to diagnose engine shudder on the highway. [tip: was the lower half of the tri-coil block, int connections causing incorrect info from crank sensor to ECM] Loads of fun doing similar parts removal. Glad you got it replaced without any broken parts

Larry Beattie, well it’s an older car so I will still have many opportunities to break something on it!

Good watching your video, it would be easier to use a breaker bar when you release the belt from the tensioner pulley
@unclemarksdiyauto7 ай бұрын
It has been a while since I did this video. I am thinking the breaker bar was not at the proper angle to either fit the square, or maybe move far enough to release the belt. But yes, if that works, use it! Thanks, Edward.

I watched your video and why did you change the antifreeze from the green to the dex cool?
@unclemarksdiyauto7 ай бұрын
It’s a while back to I don’t really remember. I am thinking the owners manual called for dexcool.

"Torque To Yield" LOL

@@robsmith2291 it’s over 4 years and aprox 500 videos ago, so I don’t get the joke. Did I mention torque to yield on something?

Mark, What kind of torque wrench do you have to measure inch pounds? It has a nice click to it…mine doesn’t click that loud. Thx.
@unclemarksdiyauto2 жыл бұрын
It is nothing special. I might have purchased it at NAPA (not a sponsor) Harbour freight if you are in USA must have them. Here in Canada, a Princess Auto. Anywhere really. Anything below 30 ft lbs, I convert to inch pounds and use this. Most ft lb wrenches are not very accurate below that number, Brian.
@Brian-fo8sh2 жыл бұрын
@@unclemarksdiyauto thx. I bought two from Harbor Freight but the valve covers call for 89 inch pounds but my darn inch pound torque wrench is so hard to “feel” because it doesn’t click. I may just buy a digital with a loud “beep”.

Mark, I’m going to swing by next week and pick you up so we can do mine along with the valve cover gaskets. Did you use any gasket sealer on this? See you soon…..
@unclemarksdiyauto2 жыл бұрын
I did not use any sealer on this one, Brian. This gasket had it's own bead of non sticky "sealant" or whatever you would call it. The job was pretty straight forward. (Other than bleeding the coolant system afterwards) If you still don't feel comfortable trying to do this, get some quotes from a couple different shops. Also don't reuse the coolant. (it has probably never been changed anyways)
@Brian-fo8sh2 жыл бұрын
@@unclemarksdiyauto Thank you. I’m going to do it myself along with the valve cover gaskets and new radiator hoses. I have to take the tensioner bracket off anyway to replace the rear valve cover gasket…so, I’m going to put a new aluminum coolant elbow in and replace the water pump while I’m right there. I’m not reusing the coolant either. I’ll drive the Bronco while this sits in my garage so I can take my time doing this. I’m going to replace the fuel filter as well. I enjoy your videos and keep up the great work.

@@Brian-fo8sh While you have so much apart & the coolant drained, don't forget to put in a new thermostat. It is probably original and could fail at any time. Just get a good one.
So, why didn't you just take tension off the serpentine belt a bit and rotate the pump pulley by hand to where you wanted, rather than crank the engine over and hope the pulley ended in the right spot? Probably could have drained the coolant from the pump during removal, but that might have been messy.

That is a good question Gerald that I am not sure about as it is about 3 years & 372 videos ago! LOL! You might have a valid point that may save someone some time though! Thanks for stopping by & look forward to your keen observations on other videos.
