Of the many videos I viewed for changing the iphone 5 battery, this one was the best.

Took me close to 2 hours with a lot of stress and a few f-ups along the way, but I pulled through and my phone's working again. Thanks for this video.

Something like an ice cube tray works great for keeping those tiny screws from getting lost, and helps keep the parts in order of disassembly and reassembly.

Yea! I bought the kit on amazon, which includes all the tools, a new battery for iphone 5 and instructions. I followed the video - didn't remove the screen though, and didn't need to -- and my phone is now happily charging, ready to go. Thank you!

Thanks for helping me extend the life of a perfectly good back up iPhone. Staples Tech sends these out to change for $99. It wasn’t as easy as I thought since I ran into problems removing cover not so gently. Then putting back a couple screws over battery connector took many tries and patience. I doubted it would turn on but it’s fine. Thank you.

Hi, Congratulations! The repair is pretty straightforward but it still needs gentle hands and a lot of patience. I'm glad that the replacement was a success. John

Thanks for the video. Its best to make a prop to hold the screen up so u can just replace the battery. Less really really small screws to take off and put back. Lost 3 screws had to take it to the repair shop. Likely they only charged me £ 10 to take it apart and put together again. The screws just wouldn't go it the holes. From UK

I've used my new battery for a week and so far it's been great! When replacing another iPhone's battery, I discovered that when using the suction cup, it helps if you put in your earbuds and charger into the phone, for something to hold onto when removing the cover.

That would put a lot of stress on the pins and connectors inside though, which might warp/bend them.

I just replaced my iphone 5 battery. Apparently it worked. The only problem was I lost one screw to the screen connector cover. :( But your instructions were excellent. Thank you. I did buy the ScandiTech kit. It was so nice to have everything you need right there on hand - well, except for the hair dryer. Thank you for the excellent quality kit and instructions.

Hi Tom, Thank you for choosing ScandiTech. I'm sorry to hear about screw. These screws are quite tiny and can easily be lost. It's all good anyway as long as all the other screws are inserted to their original slots. Enjoy your new phone! -John Scandi Tech

This video was great, thanks. For me, the only thing a little sketchy was plugging the new battery into the phone while tucking the flat cable in next to (or below?) the battery. I had more cable to deal with than was on the video and plugging it in was no easy feat and I felt like I might start to damage it if I had to force it more. But again, the video was really, really helpful.
@ScandiTech

Hello Ernie, The cable should fit between the battery and the motherboard (and not underneath the battery). Sorry for not showing this clearly enough. Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to align it perfectly but it seems it worked out for you. If the cable would have been damaged, the battery would not power on the phone. In other words, if your phone turned on and charges, then everything is fine. Regards, ScandiTech

Thanks! The kit on amzon worked. Mine already had some juice in the battery, but I plan to give it a full charge before I use it too much just in case. The blow drier helped a little to get the battery out. I applied heat about 6-8 times for 10 seconds. I had to re apply the adhesive on the outsides of the pull tab but not the rectangular piece in the middle. Thanks again!

This is very helpful. Followed this video to replace iPhone 5 battery. Later realised iFixit had pretty similar detailed step by step photos. However, although both extremely helpful, still could not solve ERROR 21 no restore. What would be great if there was some kind of diagnostic process we could employ to determine the issue. Right now it seems everyone is frustrated not from the problem itself, but from not being able to determine the cause. Its just pot luck.

I’m confused. All the other videos show removing the battery from the right side, where the tab is. One other video did have a comment warning against removing from the right. Why would they put the tab on the right, if it should be removed from the left. I plan on using a credit card to remove the battery from the left. That way, it will all come out without being bent. I’ll let you know how it goes. I already bought my battery, but I’ll keep your company in mind next time.

Do u have to remove the screen? Or is that only so u have 2 hands to get the battery out???
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 8 жыл бұрын
Hello, You do not have to remove the screen. However, if you proceed without removing it, make sure the screen is securely fastened at a 90 degree angle. If the screen slips, the cables that attach to the motherboard will most likely tear! This means you'll need to replace the screen completely. Regards, ScandiTech

Got MOST of it working as advertised. But when I turn the phone back on, there are some darker lines down the screen and they seem to be 'dead zones' where it doesn't detect my finger touching it. Any recommendations? I did remove the screen a per the instructions (and for the best, the glue was holding the old batter rather tight!)

I have a glass screen protector. Will I have to remove it to use the suction to pull up the screen?
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 8 жыл бұрын
Hello Donna, Glass screen protectors normally come loose from the front assembly when pulling with the suction cup. If you don't want to remove it, I'd suggest using the tweezers to assist with the removal. Insert the tweezers between the front assembly and the metal assembly by the speaker holes and carefully pry the front assembly upwards. We show this in detail in our text/image guide on our website: www.scandi.tech Regards, ScandiTech

I have a 5c, the tab broke and I can't pry the battery out after heating it up.
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 8 жыл бұрын
Hello there, I'm sorry to hear about the adhesive tabs tearing. This is quite common. Apple does not make this easy for us. Prying the battery *slowly* from the left side (not against the motherboard) is really the only option you have left if the tabs break. This can be a difficult task but if you proceed slowly and only pry a little bit at a time, the battery will eventually let loose. Prying out the battery can itself take up to 10 minutes. Once again, move slowly and carefully and only work the battery with dull tools to avoid puncturing it. We show this process from a slightly different angle on our website: www.scandi.tech Good luck! Apparently I have the only iPhone5 on the planet that has a ribbon cable connecting the bottom of the case to the bottom of the faceplate. No clue how to disconnect it. Couldn't replace the battery because I couldn't open the phone up enough, due to this mysterious ribbon cable. According to any number of videos and instruction sheets, this cable does not exist anywhere except in my phone.

Hello there, Sometimes when the glue that's holding the plastic frame to the glass is weakened (this happens every now and then), the plastic frame and the metal plate will not come off of with the glass. If this happens, simply assist with tweezers or a similar object. You'll see that the frame attaches to the back assembly by notches along the back assemblies sides. Simply stick the tweezers in there and carefully lever the frame/metal plate upwards and it will come up with the glass. Regards, ScandiTech

Hello there, To be fair, we mentioned that both ways are fine but *most* people find it easier to work the phone without the screen. There's always a risk involved with taking devices and gadgets apart. This should not be ignored. The more high-tech a device is, in general, the more troublesome it is to take it apart.
