How to Replace Clutch Kit 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

This video shows you how to install a clutch kit on your 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. In a manual transmission vehicle, the clutch is responsible for disconnecting the engine from the transmission so that you can change gears. The rest of the time, the clutch transfers power from the engine to the transmission in order to drive the vehicle. The clutch is a friction device, and will need replacing at some point, depending on driving conditions.
This process should be similar on the following vehicles:

Excellent video. I changed my clutch using this video every step of the way. It made an intimidating job very manageable. One thing I didn't find on the video was the process of reattaching a flywheel, but everything else was there. Getting the transmission to fit back on the engine required help from someone who had more experience than me. Using longer bolts to help guide the transmission into place was helpful. Thanks for all your work and patience.

Did my clutch a few days ago and I’m having trouble trying to start it. Everything is where it should be and my anti theft light is going off. I tried to reprogram it and nothing. Any ideas?

The passenger side subframe/control arm/frame bolt spinning is a common problem with these cars. I ran into this and it was a nightmare to fix. Also on Cobalts with rust and corrosion the starter studs like to shear off.

Bet he charged a arm & a leg plus a head for that job. Can't imagine him taking less than 1000-1500 for all that. Gotta say for as experienced as he may seem, I didn't see him use a torque wrench correctly once. Not sure if he understands the geometry of one.

Most shops won’t allow you to bring your own parts and if they do there’s no warranty on work. But labors right around $800 with cost of oem parts being about $700. Not including taxes and whatever else.

This is why I will NEVER again buy a FWD vehicle with a manual transmission. Insanely complicated (and expensive) compared to the ease of changing this in a RWD. It costs almost as much as replacing the entire transmission, which is supposed to be the benefit of buying a manual (less prone to transmission failure). You combine this with the hassle of driving a manual (especially in traffic) and the much lower resale value and there is no reason to buy a manual these days, especially on these cheap, unreliable cars. Crazy amount of rust on the frame of this thing too! Also, this video is a little over an hour long. Shops charge 7.5 hrs labour for this, which from my phoning around here is around $900 CAD. I am going to assume that a lot has been cut out of this video and it takes a lot longer than this? Or are the shops even bigger crooks than I thought? 🤔
