Right? Mechanics around me want around $1,000 for labor to replace both front control arms. And I would bet they wouldn't put loctite on the bolts or lubricate the bushings. They want your car parts to fail.

As a mechanic, trust us when we say we dont see half the money you get charged. I'll also add, not every job is this easy. Parts rust, panels bend, things get stuck and we end up fighting with it for hours. Ur also paying for knowledge, tools used, and warranty through a shop. Not to mention, yes anyone can do this but majority of people prefer not to because its a dirty job and it takes a toll on your body, back especially if doing on the ground. Also im only here to see what tools I'll need to grab for the job 😂

So glad I found your videos! Just learned today that the sway bar bushings, stabilizer links, control arms, and struts need to be replaced on my son's 2014 Optima. Kia wants $1500 to do it because they said they need to drop the subframe. None of the videos I've seen on KZbin do that. Watching your videos makes me think a buddy and I can handle it. Would you recommend attacking these parts in any specific order? I figured I'd go by the order of your video uploads, but I don't know if you uploaded them in the order you did the work or not. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment. Honestly just remove everything the same time and as for reinstall it really doesnt matter. Everything technically connects to the strut so so i guess id recommend strut last. Best of luck! My videos should help you greatly!

@@blueglovemechanic Thanks for the speedy reply. A little nervous but also excited to tackle this! Do you have any opinions on using genuine Kia parts vs. aftermarket brands? Any brands you'd flat out avoid? I've been scouring RockAuto and Amazon and matching up part numbers there with Kia part numbers. Kia doesn't seem to sell the strut/coil assembly as a single unit, so I'm going with Monroe Quick-Struts (182587, 182588). The stabilizer links are only $40 each from Kia, so I'll go with those. My main concern is the control arms... I'm seeing Moogs and TRW for like $48 each (never heard of TRW), Dorman for about $65, Barn/Ackley and Delphi for like $100... those are all steel parts and then there's the aluminum parts for $200 and up. Kia genuine control arms are almost $200 each and they're steel. I've been leaning toward the Delphi for $100 each because it seems like a happy medium (a brand I've heard of and a price that's not too expensive but also not so cheap where it just feels like I'm buying junk). Any advice or opinions you can provide here would be so helpful. Thanks again!

You got a much better estimate than I did. The Kia dealership thieves by me wanted that much to replace front & back brakes rotors and pads and put anew calipronone front (at my last front brake pad job the mechanic didn't grease the caliper pin so it seized after 2 years and started grinding on the rotor. The estimates to replace my 2 front control arms only on a 2014 Kia are around $1,200. It must be a specially increased price for their female customers thinking they won't know better.

What kind of anti seize are you using? I heard you say loctite but isn't that the opposite of what anti seize is supposed to do? Or did you mean loctite brand?
