The crankshaft is one of the sensors your vehicle's computer uses to ensure its engine is running properly. A failed sensor could be a danger to your engine, and should be replaced. This video shows you how to install a new crankshaft position sensor on your 1999-2007 Chevy Silverado.
Once the sensor is installed, you will need to use a manufacturer scan tool to perform a crankshaft position sensor relearn.

I think you should also advise people that the crankshaft position sensor must have a re learn procedure performed in order for it to function properly. I get the title is how to replace a cps, But inform the people as well. Information the most valuable commodity there is. Thank you for your video.

I replaced mine in my 2001 Silverado and it would not run with the new crank position sensor so I put in the old one with a seal from the new one. I wish I had known about having to program it before replacing it.

So if you are here because this job has turned into a massive pain in the ass. I have a 2011 Silverado. 1. Make sure you get a sensor that does not need to be re-learned. AC Delco, Standard, and a few others make OEM parts that do not require a relearn do your research or ask the auto parts shop that has the part. If it needs to be re-learned you will need a scan reader tool to perform a relearn. Not everyone has a $1,000 dollar scan reader so just get the sensor that is direct OEM replacement, I've never done the manual relearn but just get the part that doesn't need a re-learn. 2. Remove the passenger side tire and remove the plastic wheel well cover. Why? When you take it off you get direct access to the sensor and bolts and you don't have to mangle your hands or if get easily frustrated (especially with a starter). I did mine with a pretty good extension but it was 15mm for the starter bolts and 10mm for the sensor bolt. I was able to get in right where I needed to and really didn't have to take the starter out completely. I removed the starter bolts and adjusted it down so I could get to the sensor. By removing the wheel well I didn't need to get into a fight with my ratchet (because that's a fight I will lose). Its an extra step but it also allowed me to inspect that area etc, doing it this way also gives you better access to inspecting the wires to make sure they are mangled. It's so much better than trying to do it on your back. Hope this helped!

I was replacing crank position sensor on 2000silverado 4.3. After taking starter out[ no easy job] I discovered that there was no sensor there. After talking to local shade tree, I found sensor at front of crank, behind front pulley. What's up with that?

I got a Standard Sensor from Oriellys and it does not require a relearn. AC Delco and other brands make sensors that do not require a relearn.

Unplugged crankshaft while doing manifold gaskets on 5.7 v8 chevy. Starts up and run but now is running rough and throwing P0300. Did plugs, set time and installed new distrubor. Is it possible the crank needs to be relearned to clear code?

P0335. Mine had service traction control service stabilitrak for a month until it finally pulled an engine code. It stalled one time, and every 5-6 days it was hard to start or took long cranks. The sensor has a magnet in it so I'm guessing that the magnet likes to torture you until it finally goes.

liked the video, but you should remove the positive wire from the battery because the lead on the starter is directly from the positive battery post.

This is a common problem with the Chevrolet trucks. Need a permanent fix cause they’ll just start leaking again after a few years.
