Update about CV's. I installed aftermarket CV's in my 100 series LC. At 50 MPH, I find a pulsation... then at 80MPH, again but at much worst. Never though its that Chinese aftermarket garbage CV's. If you know 100 Series, it has a driveline clunk when going from R to D. I was diagnosing it and found out the aftermarket CV's at 16K miles had massive play at inboard and outboard joints and at inner splines. I then went with OEM new CV's and ALL the TROUBLE I experienced at the front end is NO MORE. Yes, Aftermarket is cheap but comes with lot of headache. I find Most OEM Toyota CV's are in excellent order even after 200K miles. Unless splines are worn, I find no reason to get rid of those. Just reboot those CV's (did to my 3rd gen 4Runner) and continue to drive with peace of mind. You will regret cheap aftermarlet CV's sooner or later.

Peter, I think you should consider NOT caring about us so much :) We love the videos, but your camera angles could be so much worse and we would still be happy! Another tip for inserting the shaft into the transfer case spline. Make sure the clip opening on the end of the shaft spline has the opening at 6 o'clock. Easier to compress for reinstallation .

It pays to look on Tacoma World forum. There are people who can and do, make better than stock parts like axles, front wheel bearings, carrier bearings better than stock. I bought tie rod ends that were half the cost and could see the difference. The wheel bearings were assembled and over greased with inner seals removed so they could actually get grease, if you know what I mean. Some call it overkill.

Nice video quality angles to see all that is required for this service and explanation of detail as well as the what where why and how. Well done and thank you. I have 2003 Xtra Cab Tacoma 4WD with 5VZ-FE engine. I believe many parts of the 1999 to 2004 are the same. I don't really see how this specific part could be much different. Oh, I wondered did you add new front differential oil to replace what was leaked out?

Good job, I gave a thumbs up for the job and the filming. New Question: Remember 30+ years ago when a PCV valve could be replaced on many cars by pulling up on a grommet on top of a valve cover and unplugging the other end of off a hose? 60 seconds to do including cleaning around the grommet and the end of the hose. Now PCV valve is behind the manifold on Corollas. Can you replace a PCV valve on this model or a similar model where PCV valve is behind the manifold?
@ucakpan4 жыл бұрын
The PCV valves on Toyota's 2AZ-FE, 3MZ-FE and 1NR-FE (European Auris/Corolla and Scion iQ) I do know are still up on the valve cover and easy to replace. The problem engine you refer to is the 2ZR-FE on some Toyotas and Scions. Even then, after doing the one on my Corolla I find I'm not so annoyed about it anymore.

Factory Toyota CV is 1000% better than any aftermarket. I drove my 4unner 3rd gen with a ripped inner boot exactly as shown for nearly 20K miles across the country too. No issues what so ever. Just reboot it. Use factory boots. Remove upper ball joint, remove inner CV clamp and then boot off of inner joint, remove C-clip, pull the tripod joint out and then inner boot. INstall is the reverse order. No messy oil leaks, no O-ring has to be changed etc., Non-OEM CV's are causing pulsations, vibrations at high speeds. I have experienced it on my Land Cruiser! With OEM CV's no pulsations!!

I am really enjoying your videos and learning a lot from them...thank you for taking the time to create them. I have a 1998 4Runner and plan to replace the CV axles very soon. I've also noticed my sway bar end links are shot and will replace those as well as you have done in this video. Do you have a part # for these that you could share? I'm also looking into changing the lower (and possibly upper) ball joints, if necessary, while I'm in there...gonna check those tomorrow...It makes sense to me to gather all of the parts and do all this at the same time. Is there any reason you can think of that I should not do the CV axle, sway bar end link, upper and lower ball joints at the same time?

Hey Peter, A 2003 Toyota Corolla. Too bad it would cost millions of dollars to fix a P0442. An old Toyota for $800. 2003 Toyota Corolla LS 4 door - AS IS - WHERE IS -- The GOOD = nearly new tires, new exhaust from CAT back, newer brakes, low mileage 79,700, leather seats (no rips), a/c, electronics all work. The BAD = Check Engine light due to P0442 EVAP leak (new gas cap did not remove code), front left wheel wheel bearing needs to be replaced, dent on drivers door (window still works fine), body paint flaking off with minor rust. I will repeat - AS IS - it's a 17 year old car that needs an unknown amount of money to at least fix the wheel bearing and the EVAP leak to pass inspection. Asking $800 firm - Blue Book Value is $2000-3000 leaving 1200-2200 for repairs and paint. It is off the road and uninsured so it can NOT be driven on public roads but I can say it starts easily, runs well and stops well but is still sold AS IS! Pictures attached. Email only (use the REPLY button in the listing) please and I will respond to answer questions or set up an appointment. Thanks!! 2003 Toyota Corrola LS 4 dr condition: fair cylinders: 4 cylinders drive: fwd fuel: gas odometer: 79700 paint color: blue size: compact title status: clean transmission: automatic type: coupe

Thank you for the great video. I have a broken outer boot. I already got the new boot. My question for you or anyone is... Should I take the whole CV axle out? or leave it there and use a cv puller to be able to put just the boot in? I would like to take everything out to give it a good clean but maybe I can mess something up. Thanks

Would this be the same for the drivers side CV axle ? Great info us Tacoma owners ! How about replacing the needle bearing video ?
@SteveInterdonato8 ай бұрын
Great but you did not show what you had to disconnect to remove brake rotor and it's backing plate. I need to do this because my wheel (tire on rim) is stuck on the Hub, lugs are removed but not the wheel. It is rusted on hub.
@efil4kizum8 ай бұрын
are you still working on getting the rotor off the hub that is seized? or is it the whole wheel + tire
@SteveInterdonato8 ай бұрын
It was the whole wheel tire and rim, but my son finally got it off using torch, PBBlaster and a wheel puller rated for 7 ton, the 5 ton was too weak @@efil4kizum

Actually the only way to decide if the old joint is still good is to disassemble it and inspect the mating parts inside the boot. So if you're on a budget u should try to check it out. Cause if it's good then your only replacing the boot

Great video! I just replaced these on my pontiac vibe (almost identical to the Toyota matrix) along with the rear motor mount to try and solve a clunking noise when shifting from reverse to neutral. The noise is the same still. Is there anything else I could check, or could the transmission be going out? There's also a grinding noise for second or two when I accelerate with about 3/4 throttle and it's louder when I'm turning, along with a slight surging.
