You need to remove the door panel for a number of different repairs, for example door handles, window regulators, power window motors, door locks and more. This video, will help you do this. This procedure should be the same for 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, or 01 Ford Explorer.

If it will not open from the outside or the inside, you may have to remove the door panel and unlock it from inside of the door. One of the rods may have fallen off of the handle or latch. Hope this helps you out.

Check the wire harness between the door and body of the truck for broke or frayed wires. That could be causing the situation that your describing.

If you have a 95-01 Ford Explorer, this video will show you how to remove it.

The concept for the door panel is going to be exactly the same for power locks and non-power locks. The clips holding the panel on will be in the same spots and the bolts were be in the same location.

If there isn't a screw holding the lens in place, you may need to remove the door panel.

This was awesome. It didn't allow me to fix my door. but at least I know what the problem is, now. The key won't unlock the door. There is a bar that hangs just inside of the locking mechanism that is binding somehow. If I reach in there and hold it up about 3/16th of an inch, the key works great and, oddly enough, if I hold it up when I lock the door, the key will then unlock the door. Once. After that, it binds again. I can't see or feel how it's binding, but at least when I take it down to the mechanic, I can show them at least that much. The inside handle, however, unlocks the door perfectly fine every time. It's kind of important because the FAB doesn't unlock the car, either. I was going to put a spring on it to hold it up, but there's nothing to hook it on from above, so I figured this is a great thing to let the professionals handle.

QUESTION: i have a 2000 explorer and my driver side door doesnt seem to unlock all the way when using keyless entry or the key. its obvious that the lock (small black thing) doesnt rise up all the way unless the door is opened from the inside... being the driver side door its really starting to be an inconvenience. it would be awesome if you can help

The clip that holds the switch cluster flush to the panel broke off and now the cluster moves inward and there is a gap between it and the panel, any way to fix this? Epoxy?
