Hi great video. One thing did you re-use the trims or did you purchase new trims from the glass supplier or elsewhere?

I found out a handy thing today. If you get a quote from a company for double glazing the cheapest time of year is around now (february). People are broke after Xmas and with it being cold they don't want the hassle of windows out, letting the cold in. You can sometimes get a quote for february and have them fitted later at the cheap off peak price.

Hi, recently the inside of my double glazing window started to leak in water when it rains heavyly. It don't seems to be leaking out of the window but just into the window. After few days, I guess rain water evaporated as it's dry and also leaving green mold. Any suggestions how to repair this?
@comeinhandynow4 жыл бұрын
Take out the window and check the drain holes that are under the glass pane, in the frame. If they are insufficient drill new ones going out. I had the same problems recently, heavy wind and rain was pushing water through to the inside. The problem was blocked drain channels. I also put a bead of clean silicon seal across the inside edge (glass removed) to form more of a water barrier to direct it outside rather than inside.

the rubber along the inside between my window panes are becoming misaligned. how do i go about removing it and adding a new strip? i have screws on my windows. i guess it needs to be screwed off. should i remove the window pane on the inside of my house in case something bad happens, it won't run the exterior side since my homeowners assocation is very picky and will penalize me if they see something weird on the exterior of my house.
@comeinhandynow7 жыл бұрын
Yes unscrew those screws holding the internal pane in place. Lift it carefully off. I think you have what is called secondary double glazing. The internal glass pane can then be lifted away and the spacer repositioned. Good luck!

Looking at that photo I would say that the double glazed window pane has to be replaced. The 'rubber' looks like the adhesive spacer that sticks the two panes together. It looks like you unscrew those bolts to free up the pane. It's cheaper to do it yourself, just get to the glass and measure the width height and thickness of the glass and find a local double glazed window pane manufacturer, or look on the internet and mail order it.
@inquisitvem67237 жыл бұрын
comeinhandynow what about the rubber itself? wouldn't that have to be replaced?
@comeinhandynow7 жыл бұрын
It's part of the window pane, it's the adhesive spacer that glues and seals the two panes together and so comes with a new double glazed pane, assuming I interpret that picture correctly. Take it out and have a look.

how do you measure up to be able to order the replacement ?
@comeinhandynow7 жыл бұрын
You need to pop off trims and measure the old glass length width and thickness. All outside dimensions of the glass,

How much cost the glass any idea?
@comeinhandynow4 жыл бұрын
Try searching online glass suppliers, or look for local double glazing glass manufacturers. You need to know the thickness, and wether you want toughened (needed for patio doors or low glass) and any other options like self cleaning.

I did actually see you do that but I have never removed the rubber just the inside strip. Are you a handyman?

Why take the rubber out from the outside?
@comeinhandynow9 жыл бұрын
+philrab66 To allow the glass pane to be moved out enough so that the inside plastic beading can be removed. This is shown at a point in the video when I give the glass a push out.
@sleekitwan8 жыл бұрын
Takes less force i suppose?! It is surprising how much the window will take, and not break, but a thin soapy solution and a hammer and chisel is often required, and a lot of 'controlled force' as the video maker obviously knows. On the double-sided foam tape ones, they are older style, externally beaded, and a lot more annoying...!

Thanks. I had a look at the link and what they state is generally ok. Although they should point out when they talk about energy saving, it would take many many years to pay back the window replacement cost from the savings in heating bills. Generally I replace double glazed window panes (i.e. the glass only) when the seal has gone and they are misting up and staining. Be sure the plastic spacers that support the glass are supporting both panes of glass so as not to stress the seal and shorten its life. Most UPVC frames can be cleaned up well to look nearly new. I have another video on my channel on an easy way to do this.

There is no need to remove the rubber , used to do this for main contractor for insurance work leave the rubber and use a rubber mallet just in. Case

Thanks for the feedback. It does make it a lot harder to reinsert the trim, but I can see that approach making more sense when access to the other side is more difficult, like above ground floor.
