I found that there is not much information in the web about replacing drive belt of my lathe - Model 65345 by Central Machinery. So i decided to make a video of how i did it myself It worked fine for me Thank you

What a great video! Watching your video saved me a bunch of heartburn and time. Thanks brother!

Thank you for this video which is very appropriate, no words need be spoken too. The accompanying handbook does not tell us how to do it, and I was at a loss as to how to change the belt which machine I bought in April 2014. Thank you again with my best regards.

I just did this but simplified it a bit. I used a 3" coupler for a vehicle exhaust pipe, rather than the large vise. Cut a notch in the pipe to fit around the raised ridge in the housing. Used a large C clamp with a piece of wood on top of the pipe and tapped it out like in the video. The belt is available at Harbor Freight, but you have to call and order it from the warehouse. Thanks, Benny!

ATTENTION. While you are at it reverse the pulley on the motor. Put the mandrel in the opposite way, reversing the mandrel pully and bolt it back together . The belt is now accesed from the front. IE the headstock is reversed and is still concentric to the the bed. I had my lathe for an hour before I did this.

this is the exact video I needed. Thank you for putting in the effort on such a great topic. Why did you remove the belt tower from the lathe? couldn't you have tapped the shaft out while it was secured to the lathe? would have made everything more sturdy.

Thanks for your help. After watching you finish removing the shaft with a hammer and a block of wood I decided to try and do the entire operation that way and it worked. A bonus: I did not have to remove the head stock. Thanks again.

I agree with AndyB you don't have to remove the head stock. I have a PSI TurnCraftter Pro model TLCPRO and it comes off the same. The Chrome knob is left handed thread and although I have to use two pipe wrenches (I thought I was going to mess up the chrome) it came off really easy. Thanks Benny

I have this lathe but mine has circlet or spring clips on the inside that are holding the bearings in place. Anyone have this and how did you remove them?

This lathe looks a lot like my Psi Turncrafter Pro. It's belt has shredded and I'm going to have to replace it. Thanks for you video. I'll probably be trying to do it the same way.

Did you have to realign the orange tapered "gear" with the one on the motor? Does it center with that notch or not?

I check my belt has 3 ribs and 2.5 mm pitch. Is PJ series a correct belt for my lathe?
@careerextendrs30979 жыл бұрын
I can't find a drive belt for the lathe. Not sure optibelt PJ 630 is for sale on line. There is a Ribbed belt PJ 1600 (inch J 630) , 7 ribs, OPTIBELT on eBay for $21.00 is that it? I do not want to order the wrong thing, as I do not understand the numbers. Is there a better place (cheaper) to get it. Thanks for the the video Benny. Very helpful, or will be when I get the belt LOL!

Great video. I can't find the blue clamp you use or one like it. I can't create a substitute that will stay in place during tightening. Where did you get yours. I thought Rockler due to the color, but it just ain't there!

Thank you for this video. I have the same lathe and was wondering how to put a new belt on it. I did not see you remove the lower pulley. Is that something I missed in your informative video? I also looked all over the internet and found nothing about this lathe and belt change.
@WoodNAOR6 жыл бұрын
You only remove the top one

Just wanted to let you know that by tapping out those bearings you inadvertently scored the inner race of your ball bearings which will greatly shorten their lives. I highly recommend replacing the bearings to anyone who does this job without a proper bearing press. An added bonus would be that this gives you an opportunity to trash those crappy Chinese bearings with some high quality Japanese Nachi ABEC3 precision bearings which will greatly improve the smoothness of the lathe. I replaced the ball bearings in my cheap harbor freight drill press and the difference was huge.
@WoodNAOR9 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment It worked for me ok , as i did it very gently The lathe works now great I will definitely replace the bearing to a good quality one after they will be damaged As i can Hear it is working very quiet so far Thanks

I realized that the lathe original belt was made from poor material Therefore i decided to buy a better kind as you can see the new belt is rubber-black and much stronger I guess you can buy any brand as long as it is in the same dimensions You can always buy a wider belt (more ribs) and cut it yourself to the right width

that looks like my DML250 mini lathe from Record Power. I guess some mini lathes have similar builds
@BrancoWorks5 жыл бұрын
PugMan3 I have the DML250 and I’m struggling to change my belt...still couldn’t pull the pulley off. That’s how I come across this video. Did you change yours??
@andrewdembek33963 жыл бұрын
This lathe is made by so many brands. In the US, I know for sure that this harbor freight model is exactly the same as the excelsior from Rockler and one of the Grizzly models. From what I can tell, they just have different brand names on them, but they look like they come from the same factory

Has anyone tryed a link belt ??
@JMichael19602 жыл бұрын
Removal of headstock housing unnecessary. Vise/press contraption unnecessary. Just tap shaft with dead blow hammer...pops out. Clean and oil bore before reassembly. Simple.
@ramaroodle3 жыл бұрын
Too much work. I just leave the headstock attached, remove the big silver wheel, use a block of wood and tap the shaft out towards the tailstock.
@listerkins4 жыл бұрын
Why bother removing the head stock, pointless......

+career extendrs If you have the Harbor Freight 10x18 wood lathe I believe the belt that Rockler has for ~$10will fit. The belt on HF 10x18 measures.....9/32"x5/32"x 25". Check your belt. This belt only has, I think no more than 3 ribs, good luck.
@glassor8 жыл бұрын
+Grayson Lassor The Rockler belt is # 20424 and you will have to order it!
