For drum brakes and parking brakes, shoes will eventually need to be replaced. If you are overhauling your rear brake system, or just need to replace worn out shoes, this video will show you how to install new drum or parking brake shoes on your 2009-2018 RAM 1500.

This was the worst and most painful brake job I’ve ever done. Dont know who the A hole is who decided to tuck a drum brake behind the axel flange, but they need slapped.

Great video, I just spent hours fighting those shoe springs because I did not loosen the brake cable before starting the job!

Good video...just replaced my rear rotors and pads only to find that both E-brakes had their pads separated from their shoes. I will order new ones and replace them myself...looks like this is more entailed than the primary brakes. Even though I don't use the E-brake ever...I'm going to replace them. When I had tires installed yesterday they wanted 400 bucks just to replace rear rotors and brake pads...I would say they'd probably want at least another 200 for replacing the E-brake pads as well. Good thing I had my own parts and saved over 200 bucks doing it myself...now for the E-brakes.

Excellent video! Most techs I know pull the axles, but that seems like too much additional effort. This job, on the ground, is incredibly unpleasant. I charge a lot in the hopes that the customer says no.

Great video. gave me the confidence to do the job myself......But I am now stuck at the 8:00 mark......TRQ - "I got the spring started on the forwards shoe". No idea how you go the back spring started on the forward shoe. I have tried pick tools, pliers, screw drivers, every angle, even finishing to get the back spring drivers side spring started. Just not working for me.

I replaced my parking brakes during last pad change because they fell the F out when removing the rotor for inspection. If you are even remotely considering replacing your parking brake please save yourself a bunch of grief and either remove them or take it to a brake shop! This is by far one of the worst designs and most frustrating and difficult repairs I have ever made. From start to finish you will have issues with the springs and horrible clips that provides zero room and a lot of luck to align. If I had it to do again I would have just removed them completely. Minimum 4 hours per side and a bunch of frustration. Aweful design and though I love my RAM this made me think that unless this design is modified I would not purchase another! Other videos begin in daylight and finish well after dark and although they show you how to do it, please understand they do not provide the real difficulty involved.

This is the most asinine brake design ever. I''m now into my 12th hour of doing just the rear brakes. Rotors took a sledgehammer, a rotor puller and heat to get off. The passenger side was easy but the driver's side is impossible to get the new shoes in and everything in it's place because the e-brake actuator lever keeps moving out of position. Any suggestions?

I don`t wear mittens by choice. I do constantly wipe and clean my paws after every movement I make after grease is involved. Grease is like Herpies when doing brake jobs. Keep your pads clean. My 2 cents.

I wish you showed how to connect the inner spring at 8 min in. That is the hard part.

I had a similar brake setup to this one, and what I did was attach the shoes off of the truck, and then used the leverage the shoes give you, to stretch it out and over.

I've just done this job and I'm in the process of adjusting the brake shoes on my 2016 ram sport and something I've noticed in the 3 videos I've seen on KZbin is that they are all able to spin the disc on the hub super easily not using any force and it'll spin freely, on mine for some reason there's a crazy amount of resistance and i actually have to use some strength to turn it. Even with the brake shoes completely unadjusted to the minimum I can't spin them freely with zero resistance. Does anyone who sees this, have any idea what may be wrong with my truck? Does it depend on the differential my truck may have compared to others? Also when jacked up, if I try to spin my wheel ( equally as hard to do and yes it's in neutral the whole time ) the wheel on the opposite side doesn't seem to move at all. Any thoughts would be appreciated. 2016 with 52k kms on it

Just replaced my parking brake shoes,hardware and actuators today - I pulled the axles bc the actuators were seized and would not fit out without pulling them. Super easy job if you pull axles but it’s a b*tch if you try doing it without pulling them

After an hour and a half getting both springs in on one side on my parking shoes, I'm gonna slap my mouth real hard for saying this- "I'm trading my ram for a ford" but NOT for the aluminum body, I was told by several friends the aluminum body ford has alot of problems.

The emergency brake actuator should be replaced in winter environments or your asking for another future repair. Very badly designed! Should be stainless steel.
